ISC Helicopter-OG Surface Guard Tape (8 mil Outdoor Grade): 4 in. x 12 ft. (Transparent)

I had something similar applied by an automotive detailer to my 420 HP 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 liter. I had it applied to the entire front end, the windshield pillars, front part of the roof, the mirror housings, cutouts in front of the rear fenderwells, the rocker panels, and on top of the bumper below the trunk. The job ran around $1500 but has a lifetime warrantee. On my Orbea mountain bike, I only had to do under the top tube, so I figured I could do the job myself. I had heard horror stories of guys trying to install these plastic coatings or window tints themselves, so I was a bit apprehensive about screwing it up. I bought the 4" wide strip, which was perfect for my Orbea as it covered the entire bottom of the top tube and wrapped around an inch on each side for good measure. Problem is there was a slight curve at the upper part of the top tube where it approached the head tube. Using soapy water and an autobody squeegee, the job was a breeze! Most of the bubbles came out easily, but you had to be careful as when the plastic dried out after a couple of hours a few small bubbles showed up. Fortunately mine were near the edges so I could massage the bubbles towards the edge of the film with my fingers. The nice thing about my Orbea AM H30 bike is it came from the factory with thick rubber bump guards on the chainstay and bottom part of the top tube (thumb's up!), so I only had to apply this ISC stuff to the upper part of the top tube to protect against gravel kicked up by the front tire. What is really nice about this product is it stretches so I was able to cover the curved part of the top tube by applying pressure with my fingers to rub any wrinkles out. If you are doing a totally flat or circular area the job is a piece of cake. If I find any areas on my Mustang I might want to cover I will use the leftover film and apply it myself.

this works great if you thoroughly clean the surface and don't touch the sticky part with your fingers at all. the slightest amount of oil allows it to eventually start to peel back. it is thick and malleable though which is great for forming around bike tubes. just take lots of time applying it and maybe use tweezers or something to hold a small section of sticky to get it started.

This stuff is awesome. I use it on the bumper covers of my Spec Miata. It does a very good job of protecting the paint. It endured a weekend of bump drafting at Daytona Intl Speedway and is still in great shape. It is easy to apply without air pockets or wrinkles. Have given rolls to friends who race sport bikes, they have all loved it. Use it on my street car to protect the edges of the wheel wells and the headlights.

Use plenty of water in application, I don’t think you can use too much. Be careful using a heat gun on carbon.

Good thick “tape” that is quite clear with good adhesion. My problem was with the backing. It was frayed along the edges, causing backing paper fibers to be stuck the adhesive. Happened about a quarter way into the project, I made the choice to continue on and trim. Wasted a lot of material and took way longer than it should have.

It’s great to protect carbon bike frames against scratches. It isn’t a big deal on road bikes but riding off-road can put some good scratches on your bike. Also great to protect against abrasion from shifting/hydraulic lines. And also great to cover your crank arms to protect from shoe abrasion. I usually get 2 different widths, 4” and 2”. 4” for downtube & toptube. 2” for chain stays and seat stays. It’s a little tricky to install it without trapping any air, like installing those smartphone screen protectors but harder since it’s a larger surface and with odd shapes. Patience and some sharp pliers to make some custom cuts here and there will do it. Also a needle to carefully puncture through and get the air out could help, but you need to be extra careful to not damage your bike or hurt yourself.

A little hard to get "the perfect cut" and all the bubbles out but a great product.

Not truly using this as intended but will provide the protection I need to keep light bar bracket from scratching my vehicles paint. This should provide a strong medium between the steel brackets and my A-pillars. Stuff is pretty sticky and easy to cut for shaping. Had to wait to install the brackets but no issue. Will use this product again when protecting paint or other surfaces from direct contact.
