Cute colourful book
Adorable book with brightly coloured, adorable illustrations. The smaller format is nice. My two year old loves this series of books. He enjoys the page cutouts and the fun illustrations. ("Hoot" and "Zoom" are so far his favorites from this series)

Big Fish Little Fish vs Hoot
Colorful book that appeals to both babies and toddlers. My baby loves the colors and cutouts, while the book is also educational for my toddler/preschooler by teaching opposites. I look forward to the day when she will be able to read it to her little brother. The creative cardboard cutouts work very well with the fish theme, creating pretty rainbow fish scales - unlike the Hoot book in this series where the owls’ eyes look a bit weird, even creepy, especially the further into the book you go. However, Big Fish is not as versatile as Hoot, since BF only teaches opposites and Hoot teaches colors and numbers. One thing that bothers me about this book is the first page, which contrasts long and short. It is very confusing for my preschooler how a giant yellow fish that takes up about 75% of the page could be “short”. See picture. They really should have saved this pairing for a later page, where the contrast could have been more distinct. I definitely recommend both books. Big Fish is more of a “daytime” book with bright colors and a narrative that ends with a party. Hoot is more of a “night time” book with owls, blue tones, and a narrative that ends with Little Blue owl asleep in his nest.
