I taste-tested this for safety and tolerability.
This stuff is the best.I have a policy when it comes to my pets: if I'm going to expose them to anything, I try it first to make sure it's tolerable, safe, and not cruel.So...I sprayed this onto my hand and licked it. When I say I almost puked, I mean it! I was gagging all over for about 5 minutes. This stuff is BITTER, SOUR, and awful. But, it doesn't linger too bad, and I don't find it cruel. As far as deterrents go, this is a particularly kind one. water washed the bitter taste out of my mouth after a few washes. Food gets rid of it almost immediately, but the food WILL taste bad for the first few bites lol. Most importantly, our cord-chewing cats got the message with one taste. Now they simply smell the cords and if they smell of the spray, they do NOT chew. It's saved me a ton of money. My boyfriend's cat chewed right through multiple ethernet and PC monitor cords before getting this. Some of those cords are BIG BUCKS expensive. I will say I had to re-spray the cords after 8 months, as they seemed to maybe "wear off" ? I spotted one of the kitties giving a taste to my phone charging cord around that time. I bought a second bottle because we finished the first in about a year, and sprayed the cord. All good! It's easy to use but avoid too much spraying, because it kind of "atomizes" and you WILL get it in your nose-mouth if you're too close. We actually just open the bottle, put some of it on a paintbrush and run it along the length of cord now. Much better!I hope this was helpful, and gave you the information you need!

Not a deterrent to my cat AT ALL. He licks the spray right off my fingers
Despite how INSANELY bitter it is to humans (my husband and I both touched leaves I'd sprayed with it with the tippity tip of our tongues and we had to wash out our mouths with mouthwash multiple times and our mouths were still bitter for like an hour after), this somehow does NOTHING to my cat. After spraying the plant leaves he'd been chewing multiple times over the course of a few weeks only to keep finding my plants more and more chewed, my husband and I each ran our fingers around the cap to grab drops of the spray and put our fingers up to my cat's nose and my cat WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO LICK THE SPRAY OFF OUR FINGERS MULTIPLE TIMES. I'm attaching the video as proof. This really isn't a deterrent to my cat AT ALL.

Not Sure Why It Didn't Work on My Puppy
While I don't doubt this works on a lot of dogs, my miniature schnauzer puppy wasn't phased by it and I think he actually liked the taste, and we saturated the things he was chewing on with this stuff. We finally had to stop for fear of it hurting him. We finally used Wasabi on the plastic stuff he was chewing on and that stopped him. He won't go near it now, and he's fine. That worked in our case not sure how good or bad wasabi is for dogs, but one lick and he wanted nothing to do with it.

Works so far. Wear gloves and face mask when applying on said items. You’ll thank me! 😃
We bought this because are little brats cats keep chewing on everything! Our kittens are about 9 months old and still in a chewing phase even though they have so many toys including chew toys. Instead they have destroyed 4 of our camera cords to the cameras we have throughout our house, uncountable iPhone chargers and shoe strings, my Apple Watch charger, a lamp cord, and a bunch of other random cords including our adjustable bed! Fortunately that one is much thicker and harder to chew in had unlike everything else. Anyway, I wish I bought this stuff much sooner so we didn’t have to replace so many things. Clearly they’re not cheap. Luckily I was able to find replacement cords for the cameras but I haven’t hooked them up yet. This spay is definitely bitter and it works for now. Almost everything that was replaced was sprayed with this stuff and so far our little devils haven’t gone back to chew them up again. They don’t actually eat the cords or wires, they just chew them in halves or multiple pieces. They must like the taste of the plastic or wires. Especially the ones that are white….I HIGHLY SUGGEST when you use this stuff, wear plastic or rubber gloves because it will stay in your finger and hands for a long time. Doesn’t matter if you shower, or wash your hands 10 times! It stays on for a while!! I even used that orange scrub for mechanics to remove grease, plus dawn soap, lemon juice before the orange scrub and it still wouldn’t come off for awhile day or 2!Using an oil or thick lotion to coat your skin before hand helps a little bit but gloves would be much better to avoid this issue all together. If you smoke a cigarette, eat or touch your lips in any way, it will get on them!!! Again this stuff taste nasty, hence the reason it keeps animals from chewing things so it does its job! I all recommend wearing a covid mask for anything to cover your nose and mouth as it goes through the air. Use it in a well ventilated area if possible. It’ll get in your nose and on everything else too. Even if you spray it on a paper towel first, then rub it on an item.I have only used this stuff once or twice on each item. I’m not sure how long it last but I plan on using it every few weeks just to keep things protected. I haven’t tried it on furniture yet but I might this weekend after doing a patch test to make sure it won’t ruin the material ( leather and suede) There are a few corners of the recliner they scratch time to time, and under our adjustable bed they go nuts scratching it!But I feel like this could help because the double sided scratch tape I put on the bed, unfortunately doesn’t work since they’re still scratching. And they’ll try to eat it as well so it’s useless.

do not lick, bad times were had
In a fit of pandemic inspired boredom I decided to find out just how bitter this stuff really was. I BARELY touched a drop to my tongue and I gotta say, it is very very bitter. Possibly the foulest substance I've ever been stupid enough to ingest. And it doesn't go away, either. It LINGERS. You can't wash it out. I think I went through half the contents of my pantry trying to stave off the taste until it finally went away on its own.So after that disastrous test of its efficacy (-5000/10, do not recommend licking), I tried spraying it on the plant my cat insists on eating. And sure enough, the next time she went to graze at the salad bar, she took a couple bites and then ran off and vomited all over the carpet. She hasn't touched the plant since.

Didn't work for me, but might for you
I am a long-time dog trainer & tried this product when it 1st came out years ago. It was completely ineffective back then, but I was raising a working-line Malinois puppy at the time, so I didn't blame the product! This time however I tried it again on a sweet, sensitive Borzoi (sighthound) puppy - not known for the same toughness seen in a Malinois, so I hoped it would work.Sadly, it did just the opposite - it was like a spray some irresistable sauce! He loved the taste, actively searched for other places I sprayed it & would steal/parade around with the bottle every time he got the the chance! If I had not gotten the bottle away from him, it would have ended up as a very messy stinky chew toy.My housemate (human) is not a fan of the scent (I have Anosmia, so I have no idea what ANYTHING smells like) & suggested maybe maxing out the recipe with capsicum (what makes peppers hot) would help, but as of now, nothing I've tried commercially has worked.I gave it 2 ☆s as their refund policy is excellent, so I find them excellent at customer relations & will still recommend them to puppy/aggressive chewer owner students as an option even tho it didn't work with my dog.

Bitter isn’t the half of it!
I bought this because a friend recommended me this and she said that it worked on her pet so I thought I’d give it a try. Well it came in the mail today and when I’m out for lunch and I rush home thinking ‘yes finally I can stop my dog chewing on herself (cause it’s safe on fur) stop my bunny from chewing on my shoes and my cat from eating plastic.’ When I finally come home the first thing I did was open it, excited to finally win the constant chewing battles! And it works!!! This 16 oz of bitter grapefruit skin extract works. I sprayed on my shoes, my dogs bandages, chair legs, almost everywhere! Feeling of winning was great. After spraying this bitter spray almost everywhere in the living room I went to go eat, after I was my hands of course because I did notice a small droplets on my hands (little did I know that should have been a warning to me) after eating I went to lick my fingers.......... bitter is not how I would put it. It felt like my tongue was trying to reject my body. The taste was god awful, not only was the taste awful my tongue went numb, it went to the back of my throat and stayed like that for 20+ minutes. It wouldn’t have been that long if I didn’t do the dumbest thing and try to rinse my mouth out with water...... now the pungent flavor that was just at the tip of my tongue has now spread all inside of my mouth. I ate something out of desperation to get another flavor out of my mouth.... helped slightly. I went back to work to finish the rest of my shift, and washed my hands there (much more longer cause of what happened last time.) I am someone who usually has some candy in her bag for extra energy (I’m a preschool teacher). I’m starting to feel tired and pop some m&ms in my mouth........when my tongue even went near my lips the taste came back..... now with a hint of chocolate..... knowing nothing can really help this I just tried my best to keep a poker face so my coworker wouldn’t know what was wrong with me. Needless to say 10/10 stops pets from unwanted chewing...... and would recommend this product if you wanted to stop thumb sucking or nail biting. (J/K)

May work for your pet, YOU might be allergic!!!
So my dog was excessively licking his paws and causing small sores. After I got him healed up, I purchased this, hoping that it would stop him. He still licked his paws, but not as much.I allow him on my bed. I have an area at the foot of the bed that has his own blankets and that's his area. He is also free to walk around my bed. Sometimes I'll call him up closer to me to cuddle. I woke up after the first night with rash on a lot of my body, especially my hands. Having the rash on my hands really confused me because I used gloves to apply it. I did not want it to get on me. Just from the amount of time that he walked around my bed that night before going to sleep, it was enough to spread the spray ALL OVER anything he touched. I did not use an excessive amount if anything I used maybe less than needed to stop the licking completely. It is a terrible taste. I accidentally got a little bit in my mouth from touching the bed, and then later licked my finger to turn the page of a book. I brushed my teeth, I gargled with water. I tried drinking several different things. I could not get the taste out of my mouth for hours. So depending on how stubborn your dog is, it may work. If you do purchase this product, you will definitely want to keep your dog sequestered in one specific area. I used it on his paws, but even if you put it on the upper leg or a different part of their body, if they rub against something or YOU, it's going to be all over you and everything your pet touches with their body at all, EVERYWHERE! The bottle is large, it would definitely last a while. It is VERY HARD to completely wash off!!! I had a lot of trouble getting it off my hands. I washed them several times, with several different soaps. I even tried using some rubbing alcohol. It also took a few days until it was finally off his paws. Apparently, you just have to give it time. As far as how well it works on your pet, Im not sure. My little guy still licked his paws. I also want to add that my dog has short fur, so it's not like he's very furry, and it was all over his fur and that's why it got everywhere. It might be effective for other pets. Unfortunately, it did not stop him from licking.I ended up with a terrible, painful rash that lasted days! I don't have sensitive skin normally. So it makes me wonder how strong this really is? Maybe it's just too strong!!! It was a terrible experience!

This is the third time I have ordered. Very disappointed this time, the package leaked! I will bot be able to use it at all… Spilled all over the plastic package! However, the overall product is great! Just needs improvement on how the product delivery was handled!

Works perfectly for my Chinchillas and their habits of chewing my furniture
perfect item for chewing. Only con is that i have to spray it daily as it seems to lose effectiveness very quickly. However, as a training tool, my chinchillas are learning that the things they chew outside of their cage tastes bad, and are now doing it less frequently!

DO NOT GET THIS ON YOU!!
I repeat do not get this on you and then have it get to your mouth from a finger as you will severely regret it. This happened to me and I swear for 2 days I kept tasting it in my mouth. I have very porous skin so maybe that had something to do with it. It was the most disgusting gross taste I have ever had and it was all consuming. I couldn't think of anything else. I couldn't get rid of it. It just took time, a lot of brushing my teeth, my tongue, the inside of my mouth, everything. As to did it work for my cats? I don't know because they decided to stop chewing on my laptop cord. But the moment they even look at it I will be putting this stuff on it and they will be very very sorry. My cats are 16 months old and moving from kitten to cat stage so I am hoping some of the bad habits may go away. Wish me luck. Actually wish them luck. I'm never touching this stuff again without gloves and my clear face mask.
