It works. If it doesn't work, you are doing something wrong.
I have to say I had some doubts about this yak cheese holder based on some of the reviews. However, I didn't find the holder to be cost-prohibitive if those reviews turned out to be accurate so I decided to give it a try. I have a giant dog and a large dog. I give them the large yak chews (roughly 1.5"-2" x 8"-9"). This holder works just fine; quite well, in fact. It's a really simple concept, actually. Place yak cheese in hole, tighten screw until yak cheese doesn't move. Give to dog. Now, if your dog is clever enough (or strong enough) to loosen the screw and dislodge the bar of hard cheese, that is a different matter, altogether. You just have to be smarter than your dog and figure how to outsmart him/her. This holder might be damaged by chewing over time, but that is pretty much all dog toys; especially if you have a hard-core chewer, like I do. For the products of this type that are on the market right now, this is the best holder I've found.

Great gadget! Dog LOVES it!!
When our dog was a growing puppy, but got her "license to chew," she used to want me to hold the other end of her chews. While I found it sweet, it was also slimy and interrupted my day, lol. So I went hunting and came across Bonehead. I love it, she loves it. Sure, she tested out the material it's made from and left a number of teeth marks on it, probably even ate a few bits, but she's fine, dogs lol. After she figured out how to hold it with the chew in a good position, she was mowing through yak chews with the best of them. I also discovered, quite accidentally, that a large nail clipper end (the part you twirl to use the clipper. see photo) turns the Bonehead screw really well and the metal is soft edged unlike a screwdriver, so it doesn't damage the holder! I had read people had problems with the screw when I ordered it 7 months ago. I also don't try to like ratchet down the screw, just turn it until the chew is secured. She's never pulled the chew out of the holder. I have also found that in addition to Himalayan Yak Chews, they hold all sorts of stuff, like small Purina Prime Bones (as pictured), 6"/12" bully sticks, etc. So yeah, a really great product!

Good for Holding Yak Chews - Effort Required
We bought the large toy to hold the Large Native pet Yak chews for our 55lb and 70lb dogs. You put the Yak chew through the middle and you will need a large screwdriver to tighten the screw into the Yak chew to hold it into place. Our dogs are good chewers so I had to really work the screw into place to secure the yak chew, the first few times it slipped out. I also noticed that they would chew it as much as possible and I would be left with a rather large piece of the chew remaining. I found a way to use the microwave to soften the remaining pieces up otherwise it would have been a waste, I suggest you do the research as well when they have chewed all they can with it secure. After 5 yak chews, the holder is showing some signs of wear but overall it is still solid. We have not continued to use it since the first round as the cost of Yak chews and the quickness with which our dogs finish them is costly. Final thoughts: -It takes effort to truly secure the chews with the screw -Yak chews can be expensive and it can leave a large chunk/portion in the holder -Cost of chews and ease of chewing does not make it a great long-term chewing solution for us

Great idea terrible product
I bought two of these along with some small himalayan chew bones to try. It just barely held the chews securely- had to position them just right for it to work, but I ended up deciding the yak chews were dangerous for my dogs' teeth. And even with this holder I felt I needed to watch like a hawk to be sure the pups weren't pulling the chew out or breaking their teeth- those yak chews are scary and I read a few too many reviews (after buying 🙄) that spoke of broken molars and vet bills. So I gave up on yak chews, and tried the holder with bully sticks and other hard chews, but the screw either breaks the chew, or doesn't hold them securely, so the dogs just pull them out. One little rawhide thing actually held well with the screw down as far as it would go until the dog pulled so hard that the screw got sucked deep into the hole and the slots for the screwdriver collapsed so now the whole thing is garbage. I tried a big braided bully stick and the screw broke the braid and turned it into 3 small bully sticks that my dogs will try to swallow for sure. I'm so done trying. The only good use for this would be for a verrry chewy dental chew that is wide enough to hold tightly, squishy enough not to split. Just to slow your dog down so they don't eat whatever it is whole. Imo yak chews are terrifying and this thing isn't worth the trouble. There has to be a better option out there somewhere!

Fix the Screw, Otherwise Great!
I really wanted to love these chew holders, but there are a couple of things I hope they would redesign before we buy again. They are great and sturdy and do allow for the chew to last a bit longer. My favorite part is that our dogs can’t get the small bits that are choking hazards after they chew it down. However, the screw part needs to be made of a different or stronger material if possible. It was way too easy to strip the screw to get a secure fit on the yak chew, we stripped both we bought using a key and screwdriver like instructions say.

These holders are great!
My German Shepherd tends to swallow the chew stick when it gets down to about three inches. Drilling a small hole in the chew holds it in place and prevents her from swallowing the stick. I also have the larger size for Yak chews, works like a charm!

One Use Only!
Got this the same day I ordered a new stack of Ya chews. First thing that was a little annoying was that I could not fit all the chews in the holder. I had to go through them and find the ones that were small enough to fit the space. Put it through the hole and screwed the plastic screw in as tight as it would go. The screw does not lay flat with the outside of the chew holder so as my dog was chewing the yak he was also chewing on the holder. It worked great for that first time. Once he was down to the nub, I took the yak away and quickly realized I could not get the piece out of the holder because he chewed the plastic and the screw as now all mangled. It would no longer work. We had to use pliers to turn the screw and remove it but it the dog had chewed it so that it was no longer straight and even after we removed it there was no way to get back in again to hold a second chew. EXTREMELY FLAWED ITEM. Have no idea how so many people had no problem with this and give it such high reviews. Maybe they all have little dogs that just nibble! My dog is large and he is an aggressive chewer! If you have the same, don't waste your money on this product.

Dog Mom's Peace of Mind
These small sized Boneheads are terrific! I'd like to pass on some tips I have learned to make them extra secure for the dogs in your life. I use the Pawstruck 7" Bully Sticks with these. The solid sticks, not the braided ones. In order to make them very secure in the Bonehead I take a small serrated knife and cut in a narrow, but not deep line on both the top and bottom of the stick about 1 1/2" from the end or a little less. Those cuts allow the screw and the 3 knobby tips opposite the screw to securely "seat" into the bully stick without being pulled out. Tighten down the screw making sure to catch both of those cuts. Works perfectly! Another tip is when I first got these and put bully sticks in them my two dogs were not interested in chewing on their "favorite" sticks and would leave them lay on the floor. So - I placed the Bonehead devices into the bag with bully sticks for a couple days to smell like the sticks instead of plastic. Worked perfectly! My dogs love to hold onto the Bonehead to prop up the stick for easier chewing. So great! And - bonus - their teeth look fantastic and I no longer worry about them swallowing that last 3" of the stick. I do keep a close eye on them though. I no longer watch them like a hawk but I watch them with a smile. I highly recommend these! Update: I have found a perfect method to securely hold the bully sticks in place! About an inch from the end I use a countersink drill bit creating a perfectly round hold for the screw to fit into. (Do not go all the way through the stick though, just create a shallow hole.) Directly underneath the hole I use a small diameter rough rasp and can easily create a trough for the knobby area to fit into. Works great!!!

Geht so...
Für mich sah so aus, als wenn die Öffnung wesentlich größer wäre, denn Käsestangen in XXL passen dort nicht hinein. Außerdem war die Lieferzeit extrem lang!

Good for larger chews, not small ones
So far so good for dog's Yak cheese chews. They can't be used with smaller ones, as the screw doesn't go down deep enough to holdin place. But if you're using a larger size chew toy, it will work good.

Less Stress With My Frenchie!
I get stressed out giving my Frenchie certain chews. This takes that stress out. Recommend!

Great for teaching a puppy to hold!
This holder is great! We have a 7 month old puppy who hasn't quite learned how to hold her chews between her paws. So we got this to help her learn. I noticed that there's a review where they gave this holder to a puppy and the pup just chew right through it! - It's a pup, they need to LEARN that the holder isn't a chew! So after a few days of keeping our eye on our puppy and teaching her that the holder ISN'T for chewing, she is now used to this and chews the yak bar only. The grip is good, it holds a medium yak bar well. Also, I noticed a reviewer put this plastic holder in to the microwave - I do not know why they did such a silly thing - it's plastic, it WILL melt! No where on the instructions does it say to put it in the microwave - it's ONLY the Yak bar that goes in to the microwave, after soaking it for 10mins. If your dog/pup is having trouble holding the chew, or theres only a little bit left of the chew and you are worried your dog/pup may try to swallow it - get this! But make sure you teach your dog/pup the holder isn't a toy for chewing! And Never, Ever put the holder in to a Microwave.
