Great on pawpaws. Too much on everything else.
If you're curious about the largest edible fruit native to the United States, Andrew Moore's "Pawpaw: In Search of America's Forgotten Fruit" might be the place to go. The author relates an enormous body of interesting information about the pawpaw, and he writes well. For this I give the book 5 stars. In addition to educating the reader about pawpaws, the author educates us about his personal expeditions in search of specific pawpaw trees or fruit or persons somehow associated with pawpaws, and the tales pall. Minus one half star. The litany of names of persons associated with pawpaws, no matter how tangential to the greater theme, and descriptions of their clothing and facial features reminded me of sitting in a coffee house listening to the endless wails of the evening's folk singer when eventually every song sounds like the last. Minus one and half stars.Net three stars.

All things paw paw
Since i've been considering planting some paw paws for awhile, I thought this would be a good book to read. It wasn't what I expected, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. It's part travelogue, part memoir, and part horticulture. The author travels all over the eastern U.S. talking to people and attending events that relate to the paw paw. I would not have believed there was that much going on before reading the book. The underlying message of the book is that the paw paw is part of America and we should not let it go away or get lost, and, after reading the book, I agree. By the way, I'll be planting some paw paws this fall for sure now.

Greatly enjoyed this book.
I have Pawpaw trees on my farm and wanted to know as much about this fruit as I could find out. Andrew Moore has put his heart and soul into both researching and writing this book. He is passionate about Pawpaws and has traveled around the country searching out the places you can find them, the history behind peoples interest in them, what they are good for, research on their medicinal properties, how they grow, who the leaders are in developing them and much more. He even includes some nice pictures in this book. Well worth the price to me. My review includes a couple of pictures of a nice wild pawpaw from my farm.

Everything you ever wanted or needed to should know about PAWPAW!
Great book on Pawpaw - the only book still in print on the subject that I could find.My brother sent me some pawpaw fruit to try last year and we all enjoyed it so much I wanted to learn more about this Native American fruit.Well everything you ever wanted to know about Pawpaw is in this book. The history of Pawpaw in the US, where to buy seeds, trees, how to plant, where to plant, festivals, growers and shippers of the fruit, etc.I am hoping to get to a Pawpaw festival and possibly grow some in NJ.

What a Blessing!
Hoo! Who'd ever think someone would write a whole book about PawPaws! It's really an Adventure Story, very well written and absorbing, while also containing a lot of hard-to-find information about our "local" Wonder-Fruit. I even learned how to pollinate my PawPaw trees - I'd have never gotten fruit without reading this! PawPaw BTW is not Papaya; it's often called a "Custard Apple" and it's an apt description. Ask your local Greengrocer to get you some Cherimoyas early next year (usually Feb-May, but it varies a lot) - Cherimoyas grow in Hawaii and California. These close relatives grow further north. Many healing properties as well as being nutritious and indulgently tasty.

Great Story AND Great Resource!
A whole and complete introduction to the Pawpaw that by tracking it's history shows the kind of cultivar that it is and what it needs to grow. In addition to a great research story line this book provides directly and indirectly, what you need to know in order to be planting and raising Pawpaws yourself.

Super interesting read
This book is so interesting and fun! Bought it for a gift, but after perusing it I realized I had to get my own copy. If you are interested in indigenous fruits of the south, or you remember your granny having a paw paw tree in her back yard -- get this book! Then plant a paw paw in YOUR yard, of course :)

PawPaw - an American Fruit
I have always wanted to taste a pawpaw. As a child I wondered about it. As an adult, I have wanted a tree. So, I ordered this book to tell me more about the Pawpaw tree and its fruit and how to care for them. This book is an excellent choice for me. It is an easy read but very informative. I definitely recommend it to anyone who may want a pawpaw tree in thier yard.
