Good hiking stick
This tiller extension is smooth to adjust and locks and unlocks without issues. However it has doubled in price since the last time I purchased one for my other boat.

The only tiller extension I'll ever use
So you can find something cheaper, but I rely on this for cruising and racing. Been sailing for 40 yrs, this is the one I use.

Dependable
Dependable quality adjustable tiller extension. Locks every time and does not slip. The one flaw is its socket assembly's aluminum piston that broke internally, though it lasted through 6 years of salt water sailing. The socket assembly is replaceable (Forespar part # 104004) but sells for $47 from [email protected].

looks and worked great initially, but broke before putting into service? Huh?
Unfortunately, I built my new Rudder Tiller stick to accommodate this 19-32" Forespar Extension handle. For the price, I thought it would have lasted longer than a week :-( The locking mechanism jammed immediately and once contacting Forespar, I was promised a return call, which never happened. So shoot, they don't "exchange" either, which means I eat the shipping, twice, and HOPE the replacement order make it out to the water and last for a few years anyway! If it were PRIME, I would not feel quite as stung, but sadly, no.

If there were a better one I'd buy it
This is the third Forespar I've had. If there were a better one I'd buy it. The weakness is the connection to the tiller which is light and easily damaged. What's worse, and almost inexcusable: it can't be repaired. Reluctantly, I bought another one for a ridiculously high price. Perhaps the next time I'll make my own.
