Incredible image quality, old school AF, great price
Amazing sharpness and smooth bokeh at all apertures. Autofocus as if it was an older generation lens, noisey, slower, but good enough to capture my kids running at the camera and macro of flowers getting blown around by the wind. Looses track and racks focus too often. Still giving it 5 stars for the best image quality of any f2.8 35mm lens on e mount while having decent AF and incredibly cheap price. No chromatic aberrations, super sharp even wide open and smooth out of focus areas at all apertures...

A good name in lenses, auto focus, and macro for a good price.
Am just starting out with a A7C. I shot mostly antique furniture for online sale, and needed something that would let me work in my dark and tight studio. I was looking at other 35mm lenses with a lower f stop then my kit lens' f4 which is practically f5 when at 35mm. Though there are many other 35mm with a lower f stops than 2.8 of this Tamron, the macro capabilities and the current price sold me. With macro, this has saved me time swiping lenses when I need to get just one or two pictures of something close up like a scratch or a label. It has worked out really well so far, and at 199.99 may be a sleeper of a deal. For what I am doing, the picture quality has been good, though I have not done much with outdoor photography. With what I saved on this compared to some of the other 35mm lenses from Sony, Sigma, and Tamron it self, I was able to also get a Sony 50mm 1.8 used which I have also been looking at.

Great Wide Angle/Low Light Lens for Budget Minded Shooters!
I'm a content creator on a micro-budget, and I needed something for my Sony A7III that would allow me to get close up shots of products I was reviewing. This little lens did the trick! I can't afford all those $1,000+ lenses (although I certainly wish I could!) so I'm always on the hunt for decent lenses under $400. I wouldn't call this a full blown macro lens for things like insect photography, but for things like flowers, plants, small animals it's great! You can really get close and sharpness is pretty good. There are better lenses, of course, but for the money I really don't think it can be beat. If it suits your needs for a close up style lens it's absolutely worth it!

Great light weight lens and inexpensive
This lens renders extremely well. Focus is accurate and the definition is outstanding. It focuses down to half life size on a full frame sensor which can be very nice to have. Outside reviewers complain about slow focusing which is true: however if you are doing "street" photography do what was regular practice in the film days. Set your aperture at f8, select manual focus and set it at your expected encounter distances. The focus by wire is not bad and the response is good especially if you focus smoothly and not running close to far and back in a blink. Did I say the rendition of your images is extraordinary?

A great all around lens at an affordable price
I have been working with this lens for about 8 weeks now on an onging project. The autofocus is subpar and pretty loud and slow but this can be easily mitigated by just manually focusing images. The images this makes are razor sharp and it looks so so good and the lens preforms all around amazing and at this price point it is hard to beat.

Great value!
For $200 it's kind of a no brainer if you like prime lenses. Very light, plastic barrel, metal mount. Feels well made. Very sharp snappy images and it's a (sharp) macro too. Focus is not completely silent for video but fine and accurate for photography.

Slow autofocus results in too many lost shots
The reviews of the sharpness of this lens are superb. However autofocus is known to be slow. Because I primarily shoot static subjects, like trees and flowers, I thought I could live with slow AF. But in reviewing my shots made with this lens I found too many were poorly focused. So I've stopped using it.

I have just purchased this lens as I wanted a cheap 35mm for occasional use. A lot of people complain about the auto focus being slow, this might be the case if you want it for video work (I never shot video ), but for stills it is more than adequate. The quality of the images and the sharpness is excellent with the added bonus of very close focusing. I have tried it on my Sony A1 and Sony A7cr with excellent results and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

If you're chasing maximum sharpness with autofocus around the 35mm range and on a budget, this is the only choice. Yes, the autofocus motor is optimized for it's 1:2 macro reproduction, but it works plenty fine in a lot of situations. For video use, I would recommend another lens. This lens renders amazing images and is simply outstanding on my A7R III. You can really see those 42 megapixels. I can't help but zoom into pictures with I take it with this lens and seeing all the details.

I'm using this lens on my full frame Sony A7CII and I'm getting good results in still photography, I don't use video so have no comments until now. The focus is very good, however a bit slow with macro shots as it struggle a bit, however when selected single AF point it solved.
