Great tool for people with allergy dogs!!
I have a chocolate lab who has chronic ear problems. He has been diagnosed with allergies, but treatment for allergies has not helped him with his scratchy and, quite frankly, smelly ears. I was at my wit's end after having him seen a dozen times by THREE DIFFERENT VETS and not getting a satisfactory treatment. I purchased this otoscope as a last ditch effort. Honestly, I didn't expect much. Every other otoscope that I looked at online was at least upwards of $80. Even though the Dr. Mom otoscope is highly reviewed and very popular it's only $27! Naturally I didn't think it would be worth snuff. I'm very pleased to say that I was very wrong. The LED light is extremely bright, and was just what I needed to see down my dog's ear canal. The magnification is absolutely AMAZING. When I first looked through the lens, I thought that it was a piece of junk, because I couldn't tell what I was looking at. I brought my hand up to the otoscope to see if I could get it in focus, and when I got up close I could see EVERYTHING! I could see the hair follicles on my arm, the tiny lines on my skin, and my fingerprint pattern in extreme detail. And that was nothing compared to what I found in Charlie's ears. The poor thing had impacted wax that was completely blocking his ear canal and had become infected! I have also used it to examine his feet and skin, as he has problems with those too. Now the one thing that I will say is that while you can see everything extremely well with the Dr. Mom otoscope, you can't clean the ear with just this. However, there are some attachments for this otoscope that are transparent wax removers. They attach to the handle of this tool and carry the light down into the ear so you can clean effectively. They don't have them listed on Amazon, but you can buy the LED otoscope and the two different lighted wax removers in a package on the Dr. Mom website for just an extra $3. Here is the link for that: [...] Overall, I was very happy with this purchase. It was exactly what I needed and I didn't have to spend a bunch of money. I don't understand all the people on here who gave this product less than five stars. I think they must not have read the directions and didn't know how to effectively operate it, which is odd because it is very simple to use. I would recommend this to anyone in need of an otoscope, and I'm going to be informing other allergy-dog owners about this product!

Works well!
Works well and comes with 3 different sized caps to view down the ear canal. I bought to use for my infant son, because I had ear infections as a kid, so I want to be prepared if he ever might get one. This otoscope has a bright LED light that you can click on and off. Seems good quality for the price. No complaints!

Great Product, Great Price
I am currently a nursing student and wanted to add to my collection of assessment instruments for home. I wanted to wait to send a review on this product until I had gotten a chance to have it for a while and actually use it. This otoscope comes with 3 different sizes of caps. I have a 3 year old girl that is petite and a 7 year old boy who is of average size. I use 2 different sized caps to look into their ears. I haven't used the smallest on a very young child, but I would think the smallest cap would work fine. I can get a clear view of the ear drum, and the price was very reasonable. (keep in mind I am a nursing student and have never used a "high dollar" otoscope). For home, I think this product is great! I have also used it to look up the nose and in their mouths. The light is very bright. I have washed the caps in warm soapy water and the caps still look like new. The only con about this scope is that the batteries don't last very long at all. That is the only reason why I gave it 4 stars. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, because it is an easy fix. I would recommend this scope to anyone for home use. I am very pleased with the performance and price.

good Otoscope
They work good to check your ears for wax, or an infection. It tells you if you need to use debrox. Ive been to the Doctor and they tell you to come back when your ears are clean. This Otoscope is good to have, and it works very well.

Look and learn!
Simple to use, nice and slim, just remember to always remove the batteries after using it! A must for all parents and everyone with a friend! :)

Did not expect such a good result
This is an amazingly useful small item most people who are careful and confident about self "nursing" and care should have. As the prduct itself indicates this is basically a magnifier with a led light. However, it really is very useful. My husband had an ear wax build up in the past and was told to buy over the counter remedies (clean up system/ear drop and pump) and do it at home. Yes we/I did it in the past but just after getting 0.5 cm diameter piece out we thought that that must be it. When I got the otoscope two weeks ago I understood that without looking into the ear canal you can never know what is happening inside. Thanks to this so reasonably priced otoscope we toook time in doing the job gradually, putting one- or two drops of glycerin (baby oil is also fine) in the course of couple of days, softening the build up then after three times of careful and cautious cleaning with he help of the over the counter systems he is compleletly free of the build up. I would never understand what we were doing and most probably would not succseed in comptleting the clean up if I could not see what was inside. It was scary, but seeing inside helped a lot. One needs to pull the ear quite a bit to help the ear canal to get more of a straight line, otherwise it is very easy to use.If you are applying on your children they may feel like they are punished through pulling of ear!!! It looks funny to pull the ear. If you are applying its reuseable head make sure that you really wash them each time as recommended in order to avoid introducing bacteria. I am recommending it very strongly for those who might need it but also remind us all that the ease with which one can use it should not blind one that afterall one is engaging in a small medical examination and should also show the basic care as the health professionals take. Otherwise such self usable things may turn out to be dangerous. I am saying this becasue the view is pretty fascinating and it is very tempting to just look into everybodies ear in the family without thinking about such things.

Died after just over a year and a half.
Several years ago, I was given a gift of this brand of otoscope, but in a less expensive version. After about five years that otoscope ended up dying, but only because I had dropped it several times over the course of owning it. Being so impressed with how long this inexpensive otoscope lasted, I decided to buy another one from this brand but upgraded to a steel version, hoping it could survive my drops a little better. After only a year and a half the LED light suddenly stopped turning on. Initially, I thought I had left the light turned on, and the batteries went dead, but after changing the batteries, it still would not come on. Being that my little cheapie version from this brand lasted so long it was kind of disappointing to have the newer, bigger and better version die after just over a year and a half. The reason I’m giving three stars is because when it did work, it was a great little tool. I used it for not only looking into ears, but fixing small pieces on items like my glasses, inside a watch, cleaning the speakers and charge port on my cell phone and other, detailed chores like that.

Great product for the poor med student
I bought this as a way to fill out my med kit, wondering if it would do a good job or not. I figured at $25 bucks it wouldn't be too much of a risk and I liked the idea of not carrying around a bulky otoscope. I was quite nicely surprised. It is extremely light, the LED light source is very bright, and the scope has a magnifying lens on it. I use it as a pen light for checking pupils and a dermatoscope for looking at skin lesions in addition to being an otoscope. Don't get me wrong - if you are doing serious ENT or derm this won't cut it for you. But for medicine wards to do a quick check this really does do an excellent job. It feels sturdy and works well. In fact, my attending asked me where I got it because she liked it and was impressed by it. I can genuinely recommend this as a great little product to check in your doctor bag or white coat to get you through exams and make you look good for not having to say "exam deferred" because you couldn't look in an ear or more closely examine the skin. The one drawback is that it says "Dr. Mom" on the side, which, lets face it, is a touch embarrassing for a med student or resident running around the wards. I solved this problem by carefully and neatly wrapping electrician's tape around the handle which had the added benefit of giving a better grip on the handle. I don't know how long it will actually last since I have only been using it about 2 months, but it seems to be well constructed and even if it only lasted a year at $25 I would still say it is worth it. Bottom line: Solid purchase for the money and excellent asset for the poor and busy med student or resident.
