Whatever Happened to Worship?: A Call to True Worship

A must have for worship leadership accountability
Such a great book written with timeless principles. While it was published quite a while ago, the lessons discussed in this book are as relevant today as any other in worship ministry cautions and critiques book. It is a short read and very convicting when balanced against the culture of the modern church. It truly centers in on the fact that if we elevate the things of worship above the object worthy of worship then we create a ministry based in idolatry instead of Scriptural relevance. It is completely possible to relate to our current culture, we just need to look more like Jesus in our attempt to do so - this book is a steady reminder of this concept with some good checkpoints to keep the biblical worship leader tethered to their source of strength - Jesus, not our culture.

Medicine For A Sick Church
This books is the medicine the church needs to take every Sunday as it gathers for worship. The book and the author are not that great in and of themselves, but the God being described in this book is awe inspiring. There are very few books and authors that are as committed with laser like focus to keep readers gaze on the glory and grandeur of God. If you are sick or your church is sick, then this is likely the medicine you need. If you are not sure if your sick then read this book like it's a check up on for your soul and your church.

Reclaiming our purpose in Worship.
Tozer writes (or speaks) with such grace and clarity that even 40 years later his words remain fresh, engaging and suited to our everyday language. He longs and agonizes over getting Christians to understand that "...glad and devoted and reverent worship is the normal employment of moral beings."13In this short book Tozer is not attacking any particular for of worship but rather, with adequate Scriptural examples, redefines the heart of the matter and states that "True worship of God must be a constant and consistent attitude or state of mind within the believer."24 That is, worship can neither be confined to Sunday nor can it have any pleasure to God when our hearts and minds are full of sin.'tis a beautifully worded book on this topic and takes a very different aim than most. Tozer isolates an unfortunate trend and condition with Christendom, namely our improper view of God and loss of fear. He impresses upon us the greatness and pure holiness of our God and can then define the "fear of God" as "...astonished reverence, breathless adoration, awesome fascination, lofty admiration of the attributes of of and something of the breathless silence that we know when God is near."30Much of this book takes you away from our plastic gods and limp ideas of God to a deep and revealing study of our awesome creator and sustainer. For truly, Tozer would ask: "How can anyone ever worship God acceptably without knowing what kind of God He really is."41This book is not amunition for our worship wars, but a rekindling of our inner fire and proper awe of God. A great morning devotional.

A Great Inspiring Read!
A. W. Tozer was a hard-hitting, prolific minister who didn't mince words. His work was straight from the word of God with great accuracy. If you wish to be inspired and encouraged in your faith, there are none better than books written from the sermons of the late, great A.W. Tozer. I highly recommend this book for your reading!

Wonderful Worship!
This is an excellent book on worship. I've always know that there was more to Sunday morning worship service, but I could not put my finger on it. I realize that worship is not about where you worship or even when you worship, It's an attitude. This book explains where the church is and where it is not! It has ignited a desire to learn more on worship, and even teach on it. Because worship services have become everything but worship! I praise God for the gifts of A. W. Tower. I am recommending this book to everyone! We have to know, it's not what we think it is.

Insightful look at what worship is and how it is achieved.
Tozer never ceases to amaze me with his penetrating understanding or where the churches have wandered from the Way, and what is needed for revival to happen. The very first chapter of this book thoroughly described the problems I have had with churches over the years - mostly that they have gone further and further from the God of the Bible and created a god more to their own liking and understanding. It really left me needing to examine my own attitudes toward God, not only on Sunday morning, but throughout each day. Am I truly worshiping my Lord and my God in every thought, intention and action?

A Must Read- We Need To Restore WORSHIP
Tozer is one of the most powerful writers of our time- I strongly recommend reading this work. One of the things I like about Tozer's writings is that his thoughts flow out of the scripture, and you can track what he is saying and his interpretations through the scriptures. And he is extremely practical in his theology, so there is very little "fluff" in what he says.Even beyond that, Tozer addresses with pin-point accuracy and piercing clarity the desperate need to restore proper worship to the assembly again!

Worship is the 'vitamin pill' for true worship of Yaw?
I have read a lot of books by Tozer and they always inspire me. His writings go beyond surface knowledge because they usher the reader into the Holy of Holy's. That is what this book can do for the reader. It helped me to just not know, but to feel what true worship is.

The Essential Tozer
In this day and age when apostasy gets worse by the minute, it is refreshing to read Tozer. A man who was ready for these times. Whatever happened to Worship is a great reminder of how churches rarely worship God as they once did. I think he is one of the classical Christian writers Christians need to read more of. This book is a reminded of that.

A challenging and timeless read
I'm nearly finished this book now and it has been such a blessed read so far. Tozer has a fantastic ability of giving the reader a much needed push (or even a kick) in the right direction in their spiritual walk. This book will make you question modern worship and challenge you no matter which denomination you attend or associate yourself with. Tozer does not write this book merely to criticise the church or any particular denomination, but he helps the reader to realise that it is possible to get much, much closer to God and thus challenges us to go for it, by God's grace.

17 missing pages
I was hesitant to buy this book from this buyer because it was so inexpensive, and now I'm wishing I hadn't because a large chunk of the book is missing. Must have been a printing error. Pages 49-64 aren't in the book, which is such a shame because I was enjoying and learning from it so much! Will have to buy a different edition or from another store.
