Self-Warming/Grey
I bought this little crate pad 8 months ago and I decided that it was time to give a review because after constant use and weekly washing it still looks almost brand new! It's perfect to line the crate with, soft and warm but not very thick so I have a soft plushy throw blanket in there as well for my dogs to make their own little "den" with.I foster animals and many a dog has slept on and peed on this pad. While my pet beds and blankets have been chewed and torn this pad never gets chewed up, or if it's being chewed then it's holding up great because I can never find any evidence of chewing! I bought the grey and as you can see in the picture it's pretty much the same color if a little lighter after many a washing. Also washes out really well as after it goes through the laundry it smells great again, doesn't have that musty old pet smell that some of their things get and never seem to lose. Highly recommend! (I originally bought this one for a smaller crate but my current foster dog has a bigger crate which is why it looks too small in the picture. It is true to its size and seems to do the job just fine in the bigger space as well!)

NOT Durable certainly NOT Chew Resistant let alone proof...
Unfortunately it makes a crinkly sound, which must have made my dog think it was a chew toy she had it totally destroyed it in a matter of minutes. She is a approximately 25lb blue heeler/husky mix not a large dog at all and had no problem chewing right through this without any hesitation. I was picking up small tuffs of stuffing and the metallic plastic layer from my yard like it has blown up. Probably not safe for a dog to ingest. Maybe would work for a cat or an older more very mellow dog, but not for any chewers or more active dogs at all.

My ferals love these things
I really needed something to help my feral kitties stay warm in the winter time. I live in NJ and it can get extremely cold here. I bought 2 K&H heated kitty houses (amazing by the way but they only give off 20 watts of heat and that's not enough when the temps drop below 20 degrees with heavy wind). So, I decided buying 2 warming mats to put inside the houses should do it. Well, the kitties love it and they are hardly ever not in their houses (only when it's breakfast or dinner time). Well worth the money and investment, very happy with the purchase!

Overall A Good Product
This product is ideal for mildly cool temperatures, but not for winter temperatures if meant to be outside. We have been using this pad for a stray cat that has been essentially living in our backyard (we can't accept him at this time) as we wait to find him a home. It has worked well until about now when winter temperatures are about to settle in. We are ordering a heating pad that's powered to keep him warm in winter temperatures. If you are just using this product for inside and don't want to use electricity - this pad is perfect.

So far so good....aaaaand gone.
Boston terrier is a big baby when he is cold, he has been on this for about a month now and doesn't shiver in his sleep now. Its soft, fits his crate well, but when he is anxious he has a habit of chewing on it. It has torn a corner and the stuffing has come out of a section. If you run it through a sewing machine to stitch the tear up it will keep for a bit longer. In its defense, anything I have ever put in a dog crate has eventually gave up its stuffing. But for the price and comfort I still think its worth it. If I get a year out of it I'll be happy.******update****We got 2 months out of it before it was unusable. Not a bad idea for a product, but material just didn't hold up. And the mylar material that reflects the heat inside crinkles when squeezed, probably adding to the destruction of it.

Cats love it!
Not sure if it actually helps with warmth (they're strictly indoor anyway), or if they just like the feel of the fabric, but my cats lay on this all the time.It brings a tear to my eye when my cats will actually use something I spent money on for them, lol.

It provides a gentle warmth.
So, this arrived yesterday, and it is HUGE. Love it! I bought the XXLarge for my Great Pyrenees. My dog wants to go outside all the time, but I normally make him stay in at night if it's going to be really cold. I'm afraid I'm going to fall asleep one of these days after he has begged to go out, and I wanted him to have something to keep him warm if it got too cold while he is out there. I live in Georgia but it has gotten COLD here lately. So, I took this thing out of the box and wanted to make sure it worked. First, the fabric side is REALLY soft - my kids were hugging it. The bottom is textured so as not to slip around. I decided to test it myself and layed it out on my bed and slept on it for the first part of the night. I could feel the heat, just a soft gentle warmth where my body was on the mat. About midnight, the dog wanted out, so I took the mat out on the patio and put it over his bed out there. When I went and got him a couple of hours later, he was curled right up on it - so I'm pretty sure he likes it! All in all, a good purchase, even though I wouldn't depend on it to keep my dog warm in extreme temperatures for dogs not accustomed to real cold. Good for short periods when your dog is stubbornly wanting to be outside, though.

My cats new best friend
I got one big mat to go on top of my dog’s crate and two small ones to put in window seats. My cats love these so much they’ve actually taken over my dog’s house :-) And I’ve had to buy another window seat to keep the fussing to a minimum. I’ve seen comments about the crinkle noise, but it doesn’t seem to bother any of the furmonsters.

Great alternative to using electric blanket
Puppy loves this as its slightly crinkly (layer inside) and keeps him warm in his crate. I got a larger than needed so I could place it up back of crate to be a barrier to cold air. Would definitely recommend!

Seems well made but on the thin side.
This is a nice little pad. Not very thick. I wouldn't use it by itself as like to have lots of layers in a crate for warmth and comfort. This would be to my mind, minimal comfort. And I guess we'll never know if it's self-warming or not. Only the animal will know. The nice thing is because of the 4 corner slits it does fit multiple crate sizes nicely. My intention was to order two but ordered one just to see what it was like before I ordered another. I'm not sure I would order the second. It is a nice layer for a crate but like I said this would need multiple layers to make the crate floor comfortable. This alone wouldn't do it.

These mats are the cat's pajamas!
I can't say enough about how wonderful these self-warming crate pads are! We have 5 of them now because they are so great we keep buying more. Our cats LOVE them. They are soft and cozy and they must work (you can't really tell without laying on them). We live in a very cold house and they have been a godsend. They machine wash like a dream. I never expected them to still look and feel so great after many, many washes but they look and feel practically new still. Do your heat-seeking kitties a favour and get a couple!

Too thin sent back.
Mat seemed like good quality and foil backed. Was to thin for our liking. Could feel all the bars from our crate. We ended up returning. Do not recommend.
