Starts off slow, but extremely effective even against cystic and nodular acne
I started using AcneFree about six months ago to deal with a sudden onset of adult acne. My breakouts were not "severe" but I was suffering from both regular acne and some very noticeable cystic and nodular acne that I couldn't seem to get rid of through other means. I never had more than 1-2 cysts/nodes at any time, but they would be very red and painful -- and every time one healed, a new one would develop in a different place. I tried a number of different types of face wash, but none of them seemed to work, so I resorted to AcneFree without much hope in its effectiveness.During the first few weeks of using AcneFree, my regular acne disappeared right away. However, it took a lot longer to get rid of the cystic and nodular acne - probably about four months or so. During that time, I just kept following the steps as instructed, eventually making changes to the routine as noted below. Over time, the cysts and nodes seemed to heal faster and appear less frequently, until one day, they were gone. I'm glad to say that the product really works. I have been acne free for about two months now. Every so often I will see a red patch or irritation that looks like it might develop into a blemish, but those fade within a day or two without ever developing into pimples.During the first month of use, I did notice a lot of flakiness and what appeared to be sensitive, chemical burns on my neck (from the benzoyl peroxide). Whenever that happened, I stopped using the product for a day or two, and moisturized religiously until my skin recovered. As my skin got used to the product, those symptoms disappeared entirely. I am not sure if I would recommend this product to people with sensitive skin, but if you can handle the benzoyl peroxide and you have stubborn acne, this is a great product.A few notes on using the product:(1) When using the cleanser during Step 1, I massage it into my skin for at least 30 seconds before rinsing it off, so that it has time to penetrate the surface. It's especially important to hit the spots that you aren't going to use repair lotion on, so those areas can some daily exposure to the benzoyl peroxide medication. I noticed that when I didn't do this, I would occasionally get acne where I didn't expect it, since I wasn't using the repair lotion on those areas.(2) Early on, I found that the skin toner runs out very quickly and the high alcohol content sometimes stung and dried out my skin. Now, I use Thayer's Witch Hazel for Step 2 instead of the AcneFree toner. Thayer's is alcohol free, inexpensive right here on Amazon, and much gentler on my skin. I love it!(3) I still use repair lotion on "trouble areas" even though I don't have any acne at this point. I find that applying the lotion to those acne-prone areas keeps any new blemishes from forming. Preventative care is much better than dealing with acne once it develops!(4) At night, I skip Step 3 and instead use Neutrogena Anti-Blemish, Anti-Wrinkle cream. It's got retinol and salicylic acid, which help keep my skin clear but don't run the risk of bleaching out my sheets and pillowcases. It also gives my skin a break from the benzoyl peroxide, which I think has helped with my prior sensitivity to BP.** 12/30/2011 UPDATE: It's been about six months since my original review, and my skin is still smooth and completely acne-free. This product really works wonders. Not only does it keep the blemishes away, but the witch hazel keeps my face looking fresh and even colored. Family and friends have even commented; even though I've never had much acne, they've noticed that my skin looks much smoother and more radiant than before. I only wish that AcneFree also faded some reddish spots which stubbornly remain, but I may try their fading cream to see if that works.

It works! Buy it!!!
I’m 45 and have had acne all my life. I got so fed up with the constant rough skin and never ending breakouts. Thought I’d be free of acne by now- but no. So I purchased this set. It’s amazing! Burned the first couple of days when I went in the sun, also burned like hell if I used it on my neck and sprayed perfume there. But within a week I could feel that my skin was smoother. Now 2 weeks on, I’m totally and completely acne free. Not a single pimple or blackhead. My skin is smooth and actually shiny for the first time in recent memory. Buy it. It’s good value for your money, and easy to use. I use it very sparingly and I can see it lasting for a while before I repurchase.

A daily necessity - And it does work better than ProActiv
I used ProActiv for about 8 years. It worked great for me compared to what my skin was like beforehand. However, I still broke out during certain times of the month. The high cost and bad business of ProActiv turned me off. When I saw so many people say that AcneFree works better than ProActiv, I decided to give it a try. I found that it does work better than ProActiv, and at (at least) half the cost. I still get a pimple or two from time to time, but not the breakouts I used to get even while I was on ProActiv. When I do get pimples, they aren't the huge painful ones but the smaller ones which usually disappear within a day or two. There is no reason for me to ever go back to ProActiv.Update 07/17/15: I don't remember when I posted this review but I have been using this stuff as part of my daily routine for years now and it continues to work just as well. It is such a necessity for me. If I skip a day or go too long without using it, I break out again, that's how I know that it's doing what it is supposed to be doing. I'm so thrilled to see the price has gone down even further, I just wish this was available for Amazon subscribe! Also, this is such a minor complaint, but I always seem to end up with way more toner than the cleanser and the lotion! I usually run out of the cleanser first, then the lotion, and the toner a long time after. I don't know if other people have this experience.

Didn't use it the way it was meant to be used...but it worked
I'm 19 year old and I've never had serious acne. The worst I've had is three or four pimples at a time. I had been getting them mostly on my cheeks, and I wanted something that would get rid of them. Now, the first time I used AcneFree, I did it exactly as they told us to. First I cleansed my face, then I used the toner and then I used the moisturizer. Within a week I noticed it was leaving my skin extremely dry, but I continued doing it. Within two weeks my skin started PEELING, so I stopped.A few months later I found a neglected AcneFree cleanser and decided to use it. The cleanser's great! On days when my face gets really oily the cleanser seems to just suck out the oil--without leaving my face TOO dry. I skip the toner these days, and I use a combination of the cleanser and the moisturizer. However, instead of using the moisturizer all over my face as I had done before, I now only use it on my cheeks, where pimples are likely to strike. Works like a charm! The moisturizer is heavily drying so you don't want too much of that on your face.I haven't broken out in the longest time, and my skin feels and looks nicer than it's ever felt! I'm not sure if AcneFree is the reason why my skin looks better, because it occurred to me that maybe my breakouts were just meant to stop occurring at this age or something. BUT, I will continue to use AcneFree just in case.
