worked well to measure amperage at my main panel to determine total load with everything on so I could properly size a generator. reault was i was using far less than I thought.remember you have to connect the amp meter to a single leg of electric flow. so mai. panel is easiest place because each breaker has a single hot lead . also remember that amps on a 220 circuit add up to total amps at 110. so for AC unit measuring 3 amps per side is 6 amps total. also remember to check peak amps when devices are turned on as motors typically use double the running amps.to convert your amps to watts equation is amps x volts. so if you draw 50 amps total at 110 volts you have 5500 watts demand. add 20% for capacity and you get 6600 watts needed.

Full disclosure - do-it-yourselfer here so I do not need a super high-quality product - works perfect for me - nice display. Easy to use. Comes with a nice case. If I was an HVAC person I might spend the coin for Fieldpiece but for me the price was just right given how infrequently I'll use it.

I am not an electrician but I do play at one at home. This comes in handy at home doing the fix- it jobs around the house that we have grown to expect from time to time. I have multimeters but wanted the amp clamp this has. I made a test line using an old extension cord by separating the lines so the clamp could get around them and now I can test for amps on anything I can plug into the extension cord. It is built sturdy enough for home use and a little bit more. As people say it isn't a $200 instrument but I don't need that level of performance. If I use this once a month it will satisfy my needs. The instructions leave a lot to be desired but that is what youtube is for! One thing this outfit didn't have are alligator clips so I also bought the WGGE leads with clips and they work great so I put the OEM leads I got with Mestek back as spares and use the WGGE leads with clips for my leads on the Mestek.

Meter appears and feels well built. Tried it out immediately and love the small one hand operation size of the meter itself and the light AND especially the built in non contact voltage (NCV) tester. Metter accuracy is more than adequate for my needs. In my opinion great product at a great price.

Doesn't work! Cheap junk from Asia.

This works OK, not a lot of resolution on the LCD display (only a single digit after the decimal), autoscaling only and AC only on clamp sensor. Handy light for dark probing areas. The clamp actually works as a way to hold the meter at times!I should have gotten an AC/DC type clamp meter, but it will be rare I need the clamp anyway.

Got this clamp type digital circuit tester for basic use around the house and not being a professional, I just wanted to make sure it was simple enough for me to use with confidence. I couldn't be more pleased with my choice. Have used it to test outlets, check my car battery, check and replace device batteries and other things. Obviously there are TONS of choices out there, but for the special price that was being run on AMAZON, as well as all the other reviews on the device, this device was perfect for me. My only suggestion to MESTEK would be to include some visual instructions for use, especially for us novice-type users.
