Alizée's Trippy Trip Into 1960s Pop Art
Alizée returned to the music scene in 2010 with a radically different sound courtesy of this album. This album is dressed with dark, nocturnal, glamorous and even gritty artwork and the music it accompanies matches these themes. Taking inspiration from artists of the past like Andy Warhol, Alizée Jacotey creates songs that are haunting yet catchy and full of wonder in "Une Enfant Du Siecle." This album is far more trippy, synthetic and dreamy than her previous album Psychedelices .The highlights of this album include "Les Collines (Never Leave You)," a near-perfect pop song that showcases her vocal talents and leaves you in a state of ecstasy. All the musical elements really come together here, although it is a shame Jean Elan's upbeat remix, which gives a new pace to the song, is not featured on the album. Seek out that remix and the excellent, beautiful music video attached to "Les Collines." The song "Limelight" is another phenomenal song; this one being Alizée's first English song. Limelight begins with pretty but eerie rifts and is more of a chant than a traditional song. It is different but quite charming and pretty, much like this whole album. Another song that really stayed with me was "14 Décembre" which provided a blend of 80s synth-rock, pop and chanting. This album is a step away from the styles of music Alizée is usually associated with and, if you come in expecting Moi Lolita , you will be disappointed. Still, she admirably delivers a lot of mature, clever songs, which often allude to or tributes Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol and similar figures of pop culture past.

Alizée does it again - new material well worth the wait
There's just something unique about Alizée, a certain je ne sais quoi that endears her to all who come within her orbit. In the early aughts, she rapidly rose from obscurity to fame shortly after her debut, producing the number one European hit in 2000 and, for at least one year, becoming the best-selling chanteuse française worldwide. Now, she has broken her creative silence for the first time in something over three years with her newest CD, "Une Enfant Du Siecle". The style is totally different but the voice is unmistakably Alizée and a more mature Alizée at that. Described by some as French electro-pop, I was prepared for the CD's contents to be reminiscent of Yelle's recent performances but it's less extreme than Yelle's. It is, in a word, delightful. The sixty-four euro question has been answered: can Alizée continue to be a musical tour de force sans the influence of her former mentor, Mylène Farmer? The answer, clearly, is yes she can!My only regret? That there wasn't more than slightly under thirty-seven minutes of music on the disc. Ah, but that leaves something more, one can hope, for the next time...

This is why Alizee is covering her ears
Une Enfant Du Siecle is the latest CD from Alizee and marks a change from all of her previous recordings. I'd describe the musical style as a return to late 20th century European synth-pop. Don't get me wrong, Alizee's voice is as beautiful as ever, but the music sounds dated. You will be hard pressed to hear a guitar, piano or even real drum sounds on this recording. I've listened to this album for a couple weeks and it pales in comparison to all of her previous recordings. I eventually removed it from my CD player and replaced it with her previous recordings. Just look at Alizee's picture on the cover of the cd. The way she's looking at you and the way she is covering her ears should be warning enough. If you love any of Alizee's previous recordings, think long and hard before you spend money on this one.

The Lolita got on a bus, went to the club and found a KEYBOARD!
If you love Alizee's voice, you will love this. She has grown vocally, and is a true talent. If you are more of a fan of Mylene and Laurent's style of music, then this album will be very hard to get into.If you are a fan of French underground electronica, you will be very happy. On top of all that... this is a very well-made album in that it has a lot of dynamic range. This means it sounds absolutely FANTASTIC on a good stereo. However, on earbuds or a crappy car stereo, you are going to miss a lot.In my opinion, her best album. But also underground and elitest. It doesn't cater to the masses. So it didn't sell a lot of copies.

Excellent Album!
Alizée's voice blends very well with the electronic music used in this album. But the "electro" aspect of the music does not overpower the songs, which are written in a very classic pop style. The melodies are simply beautiful. Alizée is not known for a lot of vocal tricks, but her vocal timbre is so compelling to listen to and her range is quite amazing. The album is strong from the first song to the last. This is not an album where I find myself skipping over songs. It all holds together really well. I really liked her last album "Psychédélices", but I think this album is more consistent and is definitely a move in the right direction for Alizée. I wholeheartedly recommend this album!

It's Alizee therefore it's Great
If you like Alzee's ballads you'll purchase this CD. Not her latest work but recent. I can't take credit for saying this as I read in someone else's review of this young singer's work but I find her ballads unusually soothing. Perhaps it's a strange sort of way to compliment her but it is what it is. I hope she does more work similar to what is on Une Enfant Du Siecle.

Grows on you: Very Excellent Album
Compared to Psychedelices this album has almost perfect composition, the tracks and style are thoroughly well done throughout the album. The artists ability to pull these unknown french electronic music artists together and create a work as good as this is impressive. This album is quality, and for electronic music fans this definitely worth listening to. Her live shows sounded WAY BETTER for this album also!

Not the old Alizee
Much different than the previous Alizee albums, but worth getting if you are a fan. Because it is so different, it took a bit to get past the changes, but once I did that I like it.

Ungewohnter Sound

Respect.
