Tomb of Dracula, Vol. 1

You know the Dracula story- this is Marvel's version of it; and it's in color here unlike the Essential versions.

Here we have a TPB, with great quality full color paper, faithfully reprinting the first 12 issues of tomb of Dracula- a great vintage marvel horror comic! Much better than the marvel essential version! The first 3 vols comprise the tomb of Dracula vol 1 omnibus (which looks great too, but comes at a hefty price tag).This comic is a bit dated, and pales in comparison to Snyder's American Vampire. DC's New I, Vampire is also a pretty good read (although it had a short run). My only problem with these TPBs is they stopped at volume 3, and you cannot purchase the complete run in this format: you have to purchase vol 2 of the omnibus or some essentials to finish the series, TPB vol 3 goes until # 31, & Giant Size Dracula 2-4. Vol 2 contains 13-23, giant size 1, and werewolf by night # 15. The books are lovely, with great art-- and if you a partial to horror comics or Dracula lore, you'd enjoy this book! It is where the charachter Blade was first introduced too!But like I said, it would be great to see a volume 4 get printed in this format eventually! Omnibus Volume 2 is a bit rare, and now prohibitively expensive!

GREAT COMPANY. THIS BOOK IS TAILOR MADE FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T AFFORD THE HARDCOVER OMNIBUS, AND NEED TO GET THEIR GENE COLAN ON!

Finally, Marvel comes up with decent color recreation. In too many of their Masterworks it was simplistic RED, YELLOW, BLUE... with no subtle variations. Here, they finally get it right -- especially on the issues colored by Tom Palmer. Speaking of, his work is all that more outstanding when compared to the other inkers in this volume. He's head and shoulders above the rest. Gene Colan and Tom Palmer make an amazing combo, great artwork.

my wife bought me Dracula 1# just recently, I read through it-then put it away, and now able to read anytime from this great book, and all the rest of issue,s after! with color-not like those essential books. those are fine if black and white does not bother you, but these books are fantastic with color and great paper.

"New" book arrived in slightly damaged condition, so -1 star for that. As for the writing and art - excellent. Great, moody atmosphere throughout. A real nostalgia trip when horror was simpler and less heinous than today. Great reproduction of Gene Colan's pencils. Recommended!
