A Beautiful Book
I have yet to knit anything from this book, but it's an absolute joy to browse. The colour palettes are inspiring and the history of Philosophers Wool was very interesting. This is a Canadian publication so be aware that the wool used for these patterns, whilst called a 2-ply, is not what we in the UK know as 2-ply. It is much thicker - probably something in the order of our DK or even an Aran, so tension will have to be checked very carefully. To order the wool from PW is very expensive, coupled with the shipping charges and possibility of being hit for import charges and Customs duty, so when I come to start my sweater it will be a yarn sourced locally. There are very clear diagrams and photographs showing the two-handed knitting technique which makes fair isle knitting so much easier, together with full instructions on how to knit in a tube and cut for openings - steeking. Maybe not something for the absolute beginner to knitting to attempt , but then they probably wouldn't choose two-colour knitting as a first project anyway. Anybody who has done a fair bit of knitting would be able to tackle any of the patterns in this book. Finally, I WISH THIS BOOK WAS SPIRAL BOUND, with a fair amount of use the spine will become damaged. Such a shame as this is a lovely book.

Well written book.
Good book but the patterns are a little old fashioned for my liking. That said it is still an interesting well written book.

Ann makes fair isle knitting very easy - I am on the way to completing my first cardigan and although it is not a pattern from the book - I am using her method of steeking. I will do anything to avoid purling in fair isle!
