what's in package; gel & ?. $5 for one shot seems high

Hello,You will be surprised to see how much gel is actually in that little packet. What I do is squeeze the entire packet into a small plastic container that I can keep sealed when not needed, and store it in a desk drawer where no light gets to it. I suppose I should have refrigerated it, maybe? Oh well, it has been doing the job for me so far. When I need it, I dab a little gel into the prepared peat pellets (a little warm water), then dip the prepared cuttings into the gel container, then into the peat pellets, put them into the "greenhouse", keeping them misted as needed, and wait up to 15 days.I have been taking two cuttings each time I need to get another plant going, with the anticipation that one may not make it. But so far, they all have made it! The only thing is, I do not know the shelf life of the gel. I am ready to do more cuttings again, so I will soon find out if my old gel is still good or if it is time to buy some more. But rest assured, this Clonex Gel is great to use, and IMO a great buy! what is the active ingredient and how much is in this product?

This is a 1/2oz or 15ml of Clonex Rooting Gel. The active ingredient is Indole-3-Butyric Acid at 0.31%.

Does it work well with soil?

Don't quite understand the question. This is a rooting compound and soil does not enter the picture until the cutting has began to show roots. I have found that at least 2 out of 3 cuttings successfully root with Clonex, just follow the instructions. You can also get step by step help on YouTube. Good luck.
