Pieces are a little hard to keep together.
Great puzzle and my three year old loved it, he loves maps. the pieces don't piece together like a regular puzzle, they slip and slide around a bit. i think its due to the odd shapes of the pieces. But sturdy and easy to keep clean nonetheless.

Well made
This is a nice quality, large puzzle. The pieces are thick and so far aren't splitting or tearing. It's very well made. The suggested age is something like 6 years old, but my two year old and I do it together and he loves it. It's a great educational tool. It helps me to teach him the continents, oceans, and direction (north, south, east, west). Each continent is a different color too so you can ask questions like, "what color is south america?". The outer pieces interlock like a standard puzzle, but the inside ones do not. There aren't gaps, but they don't lock so if you move it things will shift, that's my only complaint. I guess they had to make it that way though to keep the continents shape.

Sturdy but everything moves
This is more useful to learn about continents than other puzzles I've seen, but I don't understand why any puzzle makers can't make pieces that actually interlock so you can make progress. Even if you do the edges first, the other shapes (which DON'T conform to continent boundaries in all cases) fit loosely together and are hard for kids to piece together. Everything moves as you're trying to finish it. I got this for my five and eight year olds to do, and it was a little frustrating. But the pieces are sturdy.

Melissa and Doug Attempt to Teach World Geography
The Melissa and Doug World Map Puzzle is a large, two feet by three feet puzzle- a large enough size that most will assemble it on the floor or on a large table. A total of thirty- three pieces comprise this puzzle, and this is enough to make it semi- challenging without being too easy. Educational in nature, this world map clearly identifies each of the major continents and oceans, as well as identifying some of the animal species common to world's different regions. With an educational angle such as this, the Melissa and Doug World Map Puzzle would seem like an excellent puzzle that every child should own. However, there are a few problems with this puzzle and one will be obvious to anyone who opens the box for the first time and begins to assemble the pieces: The inner part of the puzzle does not include interlocking pieces. The frame of the puzzle does include standard, interlocking pieces, but the interior part of the puzzle does not. The interior pieces just lie there, next to each other, causing them to slide around and possibly adding to the frustration of the young person trying to assemble. This is certain to bother parents and children alike. The second problem I have with this puzzle is less important, but still deserves mentioning, and that would be the lack of labels on the countries and large bodies of water. The only places with names are the seven continents and the major oceans. National boundaries are shown, but there are no names for the countries. Some would say that this would make the puzzle too complicated, but considering this puzzle is aimed at the upper- elementary school ages, I think it would be a wise addition. It would add greatly to the puzzle's educational value. Looking at the positives, this puzzle is made from thick cardboard and thus the pieces are not likely to break. Also, even though I complained above about the lack of interlocking pieces, I admit that there is one small advantage to this arrangement: Learning the major land masses. Some of the continents have their own, individual pieces and this could help children to learn to associate the full continent with its location on the world map. In spite of its flaws, the Melissa and Doug World Map Puzzle is still a good puzzle, mainly because it still offers some educational value. This fact alone places it a notch above other puzzles and other toys on the market. The lack of interlocking pieces will annoy many children and parents, but the puzzle still has enough value to recommend.

Simple and easy to understand world map
The size of the puzzle is big which is suitable for toddlers to play and learn about the world map at the same time. My husband and I were surprised that Russia is categorised as Asia but after we Googled, it makes sense. Definitely interesting as it sparks an engaging discussion.
