Fate of finding The New Comedy Bible got me off the toilet! It's weird how some things happen in life. I have been retired for a couple years, and constantly searching for my Nirvana. Because I was an entrepreneur for 40 years, I kept landing on starting some business. Over and over I said to myself....keep looking, you'll find it. My butt would literally fall asleep, from sitting on the can, thinking, thinking, thinking. I finally learned two things 1) I know know what David was doing, and 2) COMEDY!!!! I have always enjoyed pranking, telling stories, and generally making people laugh, both in business and with friends. What better next phase than doing it with purpose. Now, if I only knew where to go for some training,hmmmmmm. From the heavens came The New Comedy Bible. Shortly after my epiphany, I was on a little BNB vacation with my wife. So I'm sitting on the can, and on the very thoughtfully placed book shelf, I found "The Comedy Bible". After just a few pages, I was hooked (and once again my tush was numb). I immediately searched for it and found to my great delight there was a NEW Comedy Bible! I just got it and I am blowing through it. I can't wait to start putting it to work, and see what path it takes me down. Every page has value, practical tactics, and makes sense. Exercise #8 "Finding topics" really got me focused on possible material. This could change my life! (and get me off the can). I highly recommend this book for anyone considering comedy for either fun, or maybe a career.

Many years ago, 2OO2 to be exact, I’d decided to do amateur stand up to improve stage presence and craft humor for audience id eventually speak in front of for business. A tiny ad in a paper in the Raleigh, NC area offered a six week live class. I was hooked. But, had to put things on hold after relocating as nothing was local in my new area. In about 2006 stumbled upon The Comedy Bible. In a new city found a hole in the wall club with amateur night. For two years almost every week was at one of three clubs. On weekends, with an unlimited pass studied two comics for two shows with different audiences. Began doing my ‘waiting in line’ gig while at stores checking out. Found opportunities to ‘practice’ on stage or impromptu audiences most anywhere. Especially with students in my classroom. What I remember most about that time period was Judy response to an email I’d sent as homework from the book. Through these years stared at the note and never forgot. With social media making everyone on the planet more accessible found Judy on LinkedIn a few years ago. I’ll never forget when she accepted my request to connect. I’ve promoted the CB to aspiring comedians. Kesley Humphrey’s is soaring after getting her copy. Totally should check her out on Instgram. Hilarious. Judy’s thought provoking and mindful attention to detail is bar none an industry gem for anyone from teacher to comedian. This NEW Comedy Bible AND the workbook are helpful tools for success. Like having a Workshop conveniently priced affordably compared to in person or online. AND, Judy is accessibly. You can reach out and she’ll respond if you have a question or comment. Found a FB group. Not on FB much anymore, but it’s a great resource if you use it. Highly recommend Judy’s community for any of her books from this to the Message of You. Taking comedy and twisting it into high paying speaking gigs with all the details you’d need right in the book. Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I purchased this book as a Christmas Gift for a relative, who is new to standup comedy, and seeking to improve his performance. He is delighted with its content, which is accompanied by a separate Workbook used with the Comedy Bible.

This is a phenomenal book. This has clear tips for people getting into stand-up. While I don’t plan on doing stand-up, this book is excellent for helping with the joke process. She gives tons of examples for each technique and without even doing the workbook, her examples and explanation get the wheels spinning so much so that I had to put the book down every page or so to write out a joke that her content inspired. Will revisit this book often!

I've never had any interest in doing stand-up. I bought the book to try to learn ways to integrate more humor into my public speaking and writing. But by page 75 I started wanting to actually try stand-up! Carter is a very good teacher, the book is well-organized, and it's also quite funny with quotes by famous comics sprinkled throughout. Many of the activities are challenging but also deeply interesting...and it was fun to occasionally make myself laugh out loud while writing them out. I already have three friends who have purchased this book in the past month because I've been talking non-stop about what I've been learning and how fun it is. (One note: In the beginning of the book she mentions MANY times about downloading her accompanying workbook. I'm sure that would help with keeping all the exercises organized, but it's not necessary and I just bypassed those comments.} Unexpectedly an excellent book!

Judy, Carter really knows her stuff. This book takes all the mystery out of writing and performing comedy. She really tells you how to get to the funny. I took her class many years ago and I still refer back to her book from time to time. I think that is the deal to my compliment to her. There are a lot of people who teach stand-up and who write about it, but they don’t have the jobs or the knowledge that Judy does so if you’re looking for a Stand Up Comedy book this is going to purchase.

If you work through this book with a friend, you will sharpen each other like 2 swords. Such a valuable resource! I highly recommend this book. I have told numerous comics to get this book!
