The Field Guide to Lake Monsters, Sea Serpents and Other Mystery Denizens of the Deep

Fun Read For Cryptozoology and Sea Lore Fans
It would have been nice to have some photos in this book, but it's still a nice addition to any cryptozoology collection - a well-organized guide to sightings of monstrous sea creatures throughout history. There are a handful of simple illustrations depicting common types and several maps showing where sightings took place. Each sighting gets a separate chapter and they're as entertaining as they are informative, with extensive quoting from original reports.I found it especially interesting to read accounts of the "classic" sea serpent - descriptions of which are eerily similar to dramatic video footage shot off the coast of Florida recently showing massive coils that match creatures described by multiple witnesses over the past few hundred years. If you enjoy reading about sea serpents there's plenty to like about this book.

A good starting point for researchers
If you are looking for a good overview of sea serpents this book nicely covers it. Each creature is given its own short section that lists witnesses, overall sightings, and history of the creature. This guide is well researched.I could have done without the authors trying to put each creature into a specific category rather than just letting the sightings define the creatures. The lack of photos of these places also detracts from the overall feel of this guide. It would greatly enhance this guide if we got to actually see these places. One part of the guide that I really enjoyed was the inclusion of lesser known creatures that may not warrant a full section. These creatures are listed by state and country in the Appendix.

Not the best book on this topic
The majority of information in the volume of this book "Lake Monsters & Sea Serpents" is just a bunch of quotes from previous publications. You are basically reading a collection of portions of other people's work and not reading anything original, authentic or new. I think it was poorly written even though I find the topic facinating. If you're just looking for a gathering of information from other people's research then this is the book for you.

I love sea serpents and lake monsters so much
I love sea serpents and lake monsters so much. I doubt I would if I ever had a close encounter with one, though. That's why I lay down in the comfort of my own bed and read about other people's harrowing encounters and smile quietly to myself. Yes....I recommend.

Highly recommend for enthusiasts
Good field guide to many known creatures and occurrences but also a few obscure ones and detailed maps of the sighting locations.

Loved it! Enjoyed reading about Champy in Lake Champlain and other possible sea monsters. Factual, interesting, and not over the top in trying to get you to believe the whole thing.

FIELD GUIDE
I'm a convinced cryptozoologist and I found the book very informative and interesting. I was, however, disappointed with the basic production and the few line illustations. There is a real need for photos in a 'field guide'.

Fascinating book, well written and laid out by category ...
Fascinating book, well written and laid out by category and sighting, but it seems very short of photos or stills from video.

Good overall book on sea and lake mosnter
Good overall book on sea and lake mosnter. Chapters are by kind of creature from giant turtle to zeugeldon(supposedly extinct whale). There one drawing of each creature at the begining of each chapter. Worth it.
