Ancho Grande Chilli - CHILLIESontheWEB (200g)

For me, a selection of dried chilies are essential for the dish of chili con carne (or sin carne, in my case). Among the chillies required, anchos are the number one! I have been bringing anchos back from US trips for years and have bought them from a few UK specialist providers over the years, so I was very pleased to find these good quality ancho chilies available in bulk from COTW for a very reasonable price.Anchos are dried poblano chillies and they are a bit dual-purpose. The flesh is sweet and has a sort of raisin-like/dried fruit taste while the seeds and fibres that hold the seeds are spicy. If you remove the seeds and fibres, what you get is a deep, rich flavour that will make your chili POP! Keep the seeds in and it will also add medium spice.To prepare, I toast these briefly in a hot, dry fry pan and them soak in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. I pick them over and remove the stems (and seeds if I don't want it too hot or am relying on another chili like chipotle for heat) then grind them in a blender with the soaking water and use it as a liquid base for the chili con carne.I bought a kilo which is a large bag indeed, but I will have no difficulty using and will definitely come back to COTW to restock.

A very interesting chilli , Iv ordered a few things from this supplier over the years always turns up , mainly things harder to get at supermarket . I’m not expert with dried chilli but will try and review . Make sure you soak in Water for 15-20 min ( you can also use that water that’s been flavoured with the Chili getting more bang/flavour for your buck ) . This particular chilli is a mild one and has a very interesting smoky borderline sweet flavour . It really does add something interesting to on my case chilli con carne . If you like hot food or even a mild amount of heat (like myself ) I’d give these a go I believe the drying process adds a lot of the complexity in terms of flavour . I would also reccomend getting a higher weight as product will last a couple years and will help of-set delivery price

These chillies add a wonderful smokey flavour and scent to many different dishes. Always take the time to rehydrate as per website instructions as the time it takes is well worth it! I would highly recommend this product and they are excellent value for money, cheaper than the supermarket!
