Do you know what is missing from your miso soup? This. I can put a spoon of miso, a dash of this, and a little dried wakame in a mason jar and use the hot water machine at work to make instant soup that is much better than the powdered packets.

This is what you need to make proper Miso soup
I originally bought this to make quick Miso soup, and it is wonderful in that role. I have since discovered its ability to bring a salty, umami flavor to just about anything savory. I particularly like using it to season an Asian style salad dressing (lemon or lime juice, a little rice vinegar, some samba oelek pepper sauce, some water and a good bit of sugar). As much as I like Hon Dashi Bonito Fish Soup Stock, I have discovered a liquid concentrate in my local Asian supermarket. The liquid concentrate is quite different and, I think, superior to this granular Hon Dashi. Still, Hon Dashi is awfully good.

Great to get older pets to eat.
I read that these and the flakes can get pets that are problematic m to eat, when they won’t. Bought these for my cat and dog that are older to entice them to eat. I sprinkled in food and stirred it in-it worked. Very happy!! However it does have msg and a lot of salt! I am a Veterinary Technician, at this stage of their lives it is about quality not quantity. It helped put some weight back on.

I looked everywhere... should have just stuck to Amazon!
Fish broth, that is all I needed to make traditional gumbo. I went to 3 different large box grocery stores and nope, nobody had it. They heard of it and even had an asian food section with fish like items that "should work"...um.. no! The dashi cam in time and my family was thrilled since they really very rarely get it. I'm thinking of not waiting for Mardi Gras to make all our favorite fish broth based meals, but to become more proactive. Thank you! The product was perfect and will be well used in my kitchen!

Me love Miso and dashi makes it fast!!
This dashi is just a shortcut to save time. I made myself some miso soup with bak-choy and shallot. Hmmm so fast and easy it was to make!! Simmer the water till it was hot not boiling and then added 1/4 teaspoons till desired flavor. Basically its 1 teaspoon for 2 cups water. I use bonito flakes but then I have to strain flakes. With this stock its add stir and add miso! Cant wait to use it in some seitan for flavoring.

when the Japanese use "Hon" pay attention
this is the only low salt dashi I have found and it's perfect. 1 table spoon of this ,one of soy sauce, one of mirin and two and a half cups of water and you have a great soup stock.

Ohhh soo good for miso soup.
Love my quick and so delicious hon dashi, it’s close to making it yourself and with the help of a little konbu the broth is perfect for my needs. Great for quick miso soup, rice dishes and my seafood soups.

Needed for Miso Soup!
This product is the base for Miso soup, but is also useful for other soups and sauces. A little goes a long way, as 1 1/4 tsp is all that is needed for 3 cups of water for Miso soup. We like Miso and other oriental soups and sauces and this Hon Dashi Bonito Soup Stock is essential for many Japanese favorites. I would recommend it to anyone liking Japanese cooking, or oriental cooking in general.
