Helpful hint for using this product
I use this product for general prostate health and have found it to be helpful. I purchase many supplements from Bulk Supplements and have been very satisfied. Many of the negative reviews on this product are based on its non-water solubility (hydrophobic). News flash: plant sterols are not water soluble - this is a feature of the product, not a detraction. Do some research people and put some effort into your health.SO, yes, it's cakey and chaulky. Here's the solution for this product and many others: Don't eat it out of the bag or try to mix it with smoothies or whey shakes. Do an internet search for "all in capsule filling machine" for about $40.Mine is 00 size and does 100 capsules at a time. Using a digital postal scale and a capsule machine It's easy to load 300+ capsules in half an hour. Boom, you're done and you have a year's supply. In the time it takes to write a negative review you'd have a year's supply of 400mg phytosterol capsules.I load my own capsules for all kinds of bulk powder supplements and save a small fortune each year over the price of buying ready made capsules from supplement companies. Plus, I can custom formulate supps and create the dosages I want. Time and money well spent if you're serious about your health.

BulkSupplements Pure Phytosterol - excellent alternative to capsules
I've been taking Sterols/Stanols for about two years and have definitely seen a reduction in cholesterol levels--although of course this doesn't work for everyone. The only problem I've found is that taking it in capsule form (such as Cholestoff) is a pain because the capsules are large and difficult to swallow. This powdered supplement is an excellent alternative--easy to use and far less expensive. It has absolutely no flavor so I can put it in anything--I typically add it to my morning cereal and smoothies. It has a slightly gritty texture, which might be the only downside, but it doesn't bother me at all. And when purchased in bulk (at least the 250g size or larger) it is a fraction of the cost of the capsules. Definitely recommended!

Strong Chemical Odor
This product has a very strong chemical odor, possibly from a solvent I'm guessing. Compared with the powder inside the Phytosterol capsules purchased from the same company, it is definitely different. Smell is so harsh I would not consider putting this powder inside my body.

The Jury is Still Out...
I had tried a variety of either "prostate" or Beta-Sitosterol containing formulas over the past few years for the alleviation of the frequency issues associated with BPH, but nothing appeared to have any noticeable affect. I continued to experience multiple nocturnal awakenings that led me to the bathroom, and so I decided to take the plunge and spend some cash in one last-ditch effort in an attempt to address this issue with a bona-fide purified compound. Who knows what these nutraceutical manufacturers are putting in those capsules. These characters are free to put anything they wish inside those capsules, or in "pill" form, and then apply a label that "claims" whatever it is the company wants to market at that particular time. This industry is UNREGULATED, so anything goes, and one must therefore trust what's on the label when purchasing from any given manufacturer. I don't know about you, but I'm a little short on the "trust" factor when dealing with for-profit companies operating in an unregulated market whose product is something that will be ingested. So here we are...with this product from BulkSupplements. First, no need for trust here - this company is happy to provide a Certificate of Analysis from an independent, third-party analytical laboratory clearly indicating the analyte and its concentration. In my opinion, companies who are willing to provide such documentation are the ONLY companies with which anyone taking nutritional supplements should deal. OK...so now at least we know what we are consuming. Now we can put all the media hype regarding "Beta-Sitosterol" and its alleged ability to reduce symptoms of BPH to the test. The first issue you will encounter with this product, as fair warning, is that Beta-Sitosterol is a lipid (fat) molecule, and does not dissolve in anything that is water-based. That said, it is tasteless, and so what I have been doing is to mix it thoroughly with a pudding-like foodstuff made with milk called "Angel Delight", which is not available in the US. Pudding should do just fine. Although pudding is made with milk, and milk is a water-based solvent, the consistency of the final product is such that the powdered Beta-Sitosterol will "disperse" throughout the pudding, making it easier to ingest. Do NOT attempt to put the raw powder in your mouth and swallow - you could easily potentially inhale some of it, which will not be a good thing. Bulk Beta-Sitosterol will solubilize in any vegetable or seed oil, but remember that every tablespoon of oil contains about 100 Kcal of energy, if you're watching your diet. And now for the "cliff-hanger"...unfortunately, as with all such experiments performed in humans, sufficient data needs to be compiled before any conclusions can be made, one way or the other. So...as these are early days, you will be required to check back, probably in August or September, 2014, before any results are able to be discussed.Stay tuned...Apologies to anyone hoping to obtain results from my experiment with Bulk Supplements Beta-Sitosterol...I unintentionally abandoned the project out of frustration with trying to solubilize the product, and have not given much attention since. Unfortunately, I was not using the compound long enough to make a statement either way. I hope to pick the "experiment" back up, but then again...the road to hell is paved with "good intentions".

Reduces BPH problems.
I use this primarily for the beneficial effect it has on enlarged prostate (BPH) problems. While it apparently does not shrink the prostate, in my case it reduces the number of times I have to get up at night very noticeably and consistently. Previously I took tablets from a different supplier. They worked but the Bulk Supplements powder works better for me. I like their powder form, and it is cheaper. Some folks have some trouble with the powder form, it can be mixed with water but does not dissolve in it, it will dissolve in oils. It does not taste good or bad to me, but does have a chalky mouth feel by itself. You can easily add it to smoothies, I find it does not hurt their taste or feel. It is good to know that phytosterols are not ruined by heat, google on 'heat phytosterols' and read the FAO report that is listed first, or other articles. So, it is fine to sprinkle on hot oatmeal or soup and stir it in. All that said, after some time I also experimented with wetting my mouth, carefully dumping a heaping 1/2 teaspoon in the front of my mouth, then drinking about 1/2 cup of water. While one does not want to inhale the powder, I found that this works for me and does not taste bad. The trick is to use your tongue to block the back of your mouth when placing the powder in, and do not breathe in until after swishing around and swallowing the water.I have been pleased with Bulk Supplements products, and would order from them again.
