My extra key fob was totally dead so I ordered the cheap key fob and coast lock and key in santa cruz put all the parts in that empty case and even he said it's not registering on his computer and he didn't charge me. I was shocked car started right up!!! Tomorrow he will have a 20.00 tip

Shell looked identical to OEM but no BMW logo. It's very well made but alas, does not work.I didn't click/lock into the slot in the dash. It can be pulled out without having to push it in.In other words, the slot mechanism in the car is too precise and this fob is just not 100% the correct design for it to work.I looked and felt great but just didn't work. Too bad.UPADATE: I'm coming back to give it 5 stars because the reason it didn't work was, kind of, user error. The correct function is both mechanical (shape) and electronic (the board). In my case the one chip on the board had a loose connection on one end. Once I weldad it back to the board it worked properly. It's a bit misleading because the lock/unlock functions work with the loose connection but not the latching into the slot and ignition function.

After 12 years, the battry in my wife's fob was dying. Since the battery is "not replaceable", the only option the dealer gave was to buy a new key fob (100's of dollars).Look online and you'll find plenty of instructions how to open the old fob, unsolder the coin battery and install a new one. Battery is amazon part B0918QR7N5.in the process, however, you're likely to destroy the plastic fob case. Rather than trying to glue it back together, I just bought this one.It snaps together just fine. The old key fits perfectly. (I don't have a use for the blank they they include.)The only problem is that occasionally you have to give a little extra tug to get it out of the ignitiion. (If this goes away after a couple months, I'll come back and update the review.)Still, we've got a new looking fob with a new battery for under $50.

Looks and feels identical to the oem keyfob, seems to be made of good material too.

Perfect for E Chassis non comfort access keys

I paid my dealer $400 for a new extra key and had the old one with a dead battery. The issue is opening the old one but lots of videos on YouTube to tell you how. Just takes careful cutting with a sharp blade. Careful. The inside movement comes out easily and I had no issue replacing it in this case. It came with the BWM logo covered with a circular tape. Probably copyright issues. Also included the extra key blank so you can have it cut at the dealer for a price. The logo looks great with the tape removed. Excellent product. No trouble using it. Love it.
