A bumbling knight meets a clumsy dragon in a duel with an ending you'll never forget! What happens when a sheepish knight and a not-so-fierce dragon fight for the very first time? Well, it's no ordinary battle since the knight has to go to the castle library to learn about dragon-fighting and the dragon must dig through his ancestor's things to find out how to fight a knight! When they decide they're finally ready, their energetic faceoff is sure to elicit giggles, uh-ohs, and very satisfied cries of "Perfect!" at the heartening conclusion. "Spontaneity of line and feeling are backed by zesty colors and a jovial, tongue-in-cheek tone to which children can relate—a top springtime choice." — Booklist " There's a swirl of good-humored life to the book." — The New York Times Book Review Review: Lovely art and story - Having enjoyed Strega Nona, I wanted to check out other books by Tomie DePaola. This is a winner. There are some pages without words that are inviting for kids to narrate on their own. The overall theme is about the similarities and differences between people, assumptions we make, and how to get along. There is a fun twist at the end, and a librarian is the hero of the story. Charming illustrations, too. Review: An introduction to knights and dragons. - A brief and entreating example of knighthood for younger ones.

Room for more imagination!
I love that this book is so clever and understated. There are pages where there are no words at all, and my baby loved the noises I'd make to illustrate what was happening. The story is clever, the illustrations are classic, and there are little details that keep me as an adult interested. I just wish I had a board book version of it. Being a first-time parent, I didn't realize what a rough life the regular paper pages were going to have. Live and learn!

Great book
Very cute book. My son loves knights and dragons. Like Mike the knight, so this book was cool to have because we read every night before bedtime. Reading is better than tv any day. The pictures are very descriptive so some pages don't have many words the picture tells the story it's self. Very cool to explain to my son he can tell what books are saying by looking at the pictures. He now wants to read them to me. He is also doing in many other books and wanting to read them to me. It's very sweet and cool. So yeah, love it. Cute story about a dualing knight and dragon with a happy ending

The grandkids love it
When I read through the book, I thought, meh, this isn't very good. But my grandkids love it! So I guess it's a success. I gave it a 4 because I, as an adult, didn't much care for the story.

Such a cute story!!!!!
We LOVE this book! We received it damaged as it was shoved into the back of my mailbox and the spine was all messed up, but Amazon came through and sent a replacement. We have had this book for 2 days and I have read it at least 5x already! My son loves flipping through the pages and telling me the story as well. It's just a lot of fun! Even my 9 year old thought it was cute the first 2 times.

Unexpected; New bedtime favorite! fantastic book which encourages imagination in children
I cannot believe how much my son LOVED this book from the very first time we read it. I was surprised to find many of the pictures do not have words with them. But it turns out, that may have been why this book was such a hit with my 3 year old. For all the pages w/o words I would sort of make up my own, pointing at the pictures and describing what was happening. Soon my 3 year old would join in and help me describe those scenes, we sort of built our own story to go along with the illustrations and it was like we were reading together... This allowed me to engage with him while reading, while also encouraging participation and creativity... Which he definitely responded to right away. In fact, I would hear him playing with his toys and reciting some of this book and the parts we "made up" to himself. So great!!! Def a new bedtime favorite.

Wonderful artful drawings. Great story line and humorous.
I saw this in a hospital waiting room and thought the pictures were fantastic but didn't get to read it until I got home. I read it to my four-year-old grandson and he was fascinated by it. I think it will be one of his favorite books ever. I had bought him a small cuddly green dragon for Christmas so this was an present to go along with it.

Perfect condition
I bought a used version of this book but you just cannot tell. It’s in perfect condition. The story is cute too. Very little text and lots to point out in the pictures.

Appealing and attractive book
Gave this to my granddaughter, who recently turned 6. She's been fascinated by knights and dragons, etc., as in Harry Potter stories, which she still needs help to read. This book has charming illustrations, and she was excited to read it by herself!
