Quality tool
Well built high quality tool. Handy for quick measurements. Definitely well worth the extra cost.

Great 4 inch Caliper
I bought one of these 30 years ago and recently bought a back up in case of lose and the company list no longer made . Mine is brass and I want that since no rust and still easy to read . Can read both outside and inside measurements with very accurate easy reading . I have several calipers but for its' size you won't beat it . Measures from 1/32 to 4 inches or 1 mm to 100 . This tool is made in Germany and finely tooled. 30 years ago it was sold by the by fine tool salesmen to the best Automotive Tool Shops in the US. I bought my first one off a retiring salesmans truck. You won't find better up to 4 inches .

Great tool.
I use it all the time. Im a crane inspector and have to measure wire rope. There really nothing i dont like about it. Well... maybe the price could come down a little and maybe a nice leather holder.

Review
I was very disappointed in this item. It clearly states in very large type at the top that it is stainless steel. It turns out to be crudely made from brass. (in all fairness, if you read the fine print it says it's made from brass). Letters etc. on it are very difficult to read because they are not filled with any color. It didn't cost enough for me to waste my time trying to return it. Just be aware of the shortcomings.

HAS A QUALITY FEEL BUT ARRIVED BENT
The caliper has a nice, old world, quality feel and appearance, which is what I was looking for, but mine arrived bent so it did not slide smoothly which caused a sort of herky-jerky movement making it difficult to make minute measurements that a caliper is designed to do. I was able to spend about 15 minutes with a rubber mallet and fix the bend. It's not perfect but it does work satisfactorily. This caliper also measures both inside and outside diameters which is nice. Although this is a 3 start experience for me, I still recommend this product as I am under the belief that it arrived either defective from the factory or bent during shipping and not all will arrive in the same condition. I still feel compelled to rate this 3 stars even though shipping may have caused the issue because the factory packaging is not sufficient enough to protect a tool designed for precise measurement. From my perspective, the manufacturer is responsible for not only the quality of the product, but also the packaging especially on an instrument like this.

Quality BRASS tool.
I came looking for these, because I've owned one for thirty years, and wanted another. Yes, it says stainless, yes, it's brass, not stainless, yes, it's a bit hard to read, but easily polishes up with your fingers or some toothpaste, but, again, I've had mine for thirty years (was made in Germany back then) and it's still in great condition. I still even have mine in the little plastic envelope case, but it's certainly showing its age.Is the price here a bit high? Perhaps. But that does not take away from the quality of the tool and brass is rarely cheap. I've found that if you use a bit of Simichrome or Flitz metal polish, the "tarnish" will stay down in the markings while you clean and shine the face of the brass, and that makes it easier to read. Funny, how I never complained about it being hard to read thirty years ago before I needed bifocals.....lol lolI'm looking for a less expensive service van caliper that I won't be upset over it getting lost on a job site.

Great tool to add to the collection
I really like this little tool. I disagree with some of the reviews. The scale is not hard to read. I would buy another one if this one was lost or stolen.
