Great simple explanation of depression
Depression is a flaw in chemistry, not character. This book is a great description of depression and how it can affect people, sometimes very differently. It explains things in simple terms, and that depression isn't just being sad. It's not about wanting attention, even when you may need it, it's not something you can just "get over". If you have depression, buy this book to help explain to your friends and family. If you have family or friends who are depressed, buy this book to help you understand them. The illustrations are great, because they visualize things so simply.

Beautiful.
This book is a glance at the world of people who suffer from depression, for me its a light, as when i am depressed its something to look at to make me feel less overwhelmed as when i am there i do not want to read or watch tv or do anything, but because this is a picture book it easy to flip through and feel less alone, its wonderful for friends and family to read to help understand how you feel, and i love that the end is really the beginning, Thanks. Best book for family & friends to understand depression!
This is such a great book explaining depression in a way that's easy for people to understand. I have had depression for years and bought this book to give to family and friends who just don't seem to get it. It is in the format of a child's picture book but that's part of what makes the book so informative - the illustrations along with the text are a perfect description (in my case anyway) of this illness. I highly recommend this book!

Helpful book
A handy book to have in explaining depression to children and others not clear on expectations for someone who might be suffering depression. it's not perfect, but as one of my friends said, "I finally understand that I can't simply encourage my son to stop being depressed."

Help yourself and help those you love by reading Johnstone's Black Dog books
Help yourself and help those you love by reading Johnstone's Black Dog books. His cartoons capture the inside of depression and assist those with it and those loving those with it to understand, reach out and help.

explained so simple and so true
I didn't think depression could be explained so well and with so few words and the help of pictures, but the book does it so much better than many 400 page books. I highly recommend it for people who suffer from depression so they can recognize themselves and feel less lonely and for the friends and relatives of sufferers to gain an understanding of what it is like.A wonderful, helpful and positive book!

A great story to explain what depression does to us
I first found this story on youtube posted by the WHO. The book has been a great tool to share with my family so that they know that my mood is not caused by them.

Perfect for Therapy
This little book explains depression well. It provides a non-threatening way for patients to understand what depression is like. It helps sufferers to know that they are not alone and helps those who know depressed people to better understand what their loved ones experience. A joy to have on my Therapeutic reading shelf.

Perfect!
Buy this book! It's so simply and so right - you couldn't explain how you feel any better than this book does. I suffered with depression for about 7 months in 2009 and still go back to look at this book when I'm having down days! Just bought it for a friend and she loves it too!

A Must
I gave this to a depressive friend of mine, his reaction was "What is this?". I said to take it and look at it. A week later we met again and he said the book really helped him to conceptualise his problems, especially when talking to other people. He asked to keep the book!
