Honest review by an average guy.
This review is for the following model: LG 86UN8570PUC OK so I'm not a videophile and I don't have any technical credentials. I'm just a regular guy who likes to watch movies and play games on a big screen. I purchased this LG 86" TV because I wanted to be able to view 4K content on a large screen. Coming from a 70" 1080p Sharp brand 3D TV, this LG is a lot bigger and the picture is much more crisp. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Sharp and I'm not getting rid of it, just moved it to another room because I'm preparing myself for the upcoming next-gen console releases within the next few months. my 1080p was great for my PS4 pro, but I knew I would need a 4K TV for the new PS5. I'll have to admit, I had a really hard time deciding which TV to buy because I was torn between having a smaller sized OLED screen or a larger sized LED. I set my budget at $2K and I started researching and reading reviews on many different models. The OLED TVs generally have a much better picture, but cost more. I ultimately decided that I would sacrifice a little bit of picture quality for a lot of size. This 86" monster does not disappoint in the size department. Packaging: Reading the other reviews, I was fully prepared to receive a damaged unit and was ready to experience the inconvenience of returning the broken TV and waiting for another one to arrive. But, to my surprise, I got a good one on the first try. The box did have some minor damage, but there is a lot of foam between the TV and the box, so mine was undamaged. You will definitely need at least one other person to help you get this thing out of the box and onto it's new table or wall. I decided to install the included legs and set my unit on an 8ft table that I specifically built for this television. Note that if you plan to install the legs, I found that it's helpful to remove the outer cardboard box, then remove the foam that surrounds the TV. Now arrange the foam on the floor right in front of the screen of the TV and get someone to help you gently lay the TV down on the floor (screen side down). At this point, it's super easy to remove the bottom foam and install the legs. It's impossible for one person to get the legs installed and to put this TV onto a table without some help. I actually received mine around noon and had to sit there staring at a giant box for like 5 hours until my wife got home from work because there was nobody else at home to help me. Picture quality: Again, I'm not a trained professional or anything, but I can appreciate nice things. This TV has a great picture for my needs. I do need to say that I have noticed that the image does tend to blur when there is a fast-moving scene. I turned off the"trumotion" setting (on by default) and I didn't really notice much difference. I haven't really messed with any of the other picture settings because I think it looks pretty good out of the box, aside from the motion blur (which is really only a minor annoyance and not really a deal-breaker). If anyone has recommendations for an even better picture, please let me know and I'll be happy to give it a try, but like I said, I'm not disappointed with the factory settings. Sound: OK so I'm not knocking any stars here, but I think it's worth noting that the sound quality leaves something to be desired. I do understand that it must be very difficult to produce a rich, quality sound from tiny speakers in a super-thin TV, but my old 70" Sharp sounds much better than this 86" LG. Normal dialogue sounds OK but music doesn't sound very good. Any time there's a bass note or any lower frequency sound, it almost sounds like the speaker is bottoming-out. I didn't bother adjusting the equalizer settings because I'm planning to purchase a surround sound system in the near future, so I won't need to worry about the internal speakers anymore. I doubt the equalizer would make much of a difference anyway since the speakers are so tiny. Besides, the sound quality isn't really why you're considering this TV in the first place, is it? And I'd be willing to bet that most of us who can afford to drop 2 grand on an 86" TV can also afford to buy some external speakers, even if it's just a soundbar. The Magic Remote: I like this remote. It has a good weight to it and it feels good in my hand. The shape of it makes it easy to feel the correct way to hold it, so if you reach for it in a dark room, you won't hold it upside down and accidentally hit the wrong button. I kinda wish the buttons would illuminate, but I'm sure I'll have the button placement memorized in no time. The pointer feature is nice and I think it saves time when logging into an account like Netflix or Disney+, or even just navigating the on-screen menu. The only dedicated app buttons are for Netflix and Prime Video, but just a quick press of the home button will bring up the rest of your apps quickly. Overview: This might not be the absolute best TV on the market today, but if you're looking for a larger-than-normal, ultra hi-def, 4K smart TV that has a pretty good picture for under $2K, then this is the one for you. The few minor annoyances that I mentioned above are easily forgotten when immersed in a movie or game on this giant screen. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone who has taken the time to read this review.

Superb TV - great picture, slim design, excellent price
Picture: I upgraded from a Samsung 65" 2018 QLED to this wonderful TV and am very very happy with the upgrade. While I don't consider myself an AV professional, I am a stickler for picture quality when it comes to movies and this TV did not disappoint in any way. John Wick looks amazing on it and so does the PS4 pro! Sound: Decent. While the default built-in TV speakers are sufficient for small areas, I recommend an LG SL10YG 5.1.2 soundbar to pair with it via ARC HDMI for epic home theater sound and flawless integration. There are better soundbars at better prices but the LG SL10YG pairs flawlessly with the TV, looks great if youre into the minimalist motif and sounds GREAT out of the box. Mounting: This unit can be mounted on the wall without issues despite its size. I mounted it to the wall with a heavy duty wall mount and drywall anchors. In summary, this TV rocks. I would buy it again and am actively considering it for another space in my home.

A 1500$ TV with and Sub-1000$ price tag
Bought this TV to replace a SHARP that has given me trouble since the day I bought it almost 2 years ago. This TV had pretty much every single thing that was on my list of things I wanted in a new TV. 75in, 4K, Dolby Vision, FilmMaker Mode, 4 hdmi ports with 2 of them being 2.1 hdmi ports (For my new XBox Series X) + Something I didn't think I could get in this price range, Dolby Atoms. The TV looks great. The picture quality is noticibly better than my old tv, the sound on the internal speakers is amazing. I was using stereo with my old tv, but now, the internal speakers with the Dolby Atmos sound are just too good to pass up. The bottom line is I was looking at TVs for a while and I was between a few TVs all in the 1300-1500 range. Then I found this TV for under 1000 and it had better specs and more bells and whistles then those TVs. It was a no brainier. This is an awesome TV. If you want a TV that is a little nicer than the 75" Hisense that you can get for like 600 on sale, but you don't want to spend 1600 on the "next level", this is the TV for you. And me.

AWESOME TV AT A GREAT PRICE
Man i am so happy with this tv and at the price i got it for, you cant beat it. I got the 65inch version and it came without a scratch my god does this ps5 look gorgeous with HDR, 4K 120HZ THIS THING IS SO DAMM AWESOME.. i am so glad i didnt pay so much money for an OLED. THERE IS NO POINT IN GETTING A MORE EXPENSIVE TV WHEN THIS DOES EVERYTHING MINUS THE (VRR)-WHICH I CARE NOTHING FOR. I was able to tell the difference right away from my other lg tv and the difference is insane. Now the main reason why i got the tv. ..ThinQ AI, Google Assistant, and Alexa ..4K Ultra HD (2160p resolution) ..film maker mode ..Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos ..α7 Gen 3 Processor 4K-( this thing is FAST) AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS (NATIVE 120HZ) AND THE PRICE. ..

Great image but power issue after first day
For the money this tv has a great image. Very clear, and when connected to the Series X, gameplay is phenomenal. However, after getting the tv mounted and watching for a day, the tv would not power on the following day (neither by the remote or the physical power button). I had to unplug and wait a few seconds, then plug it back in, to get it to turn on. I need to know if this is a settings issue or a hardware issue. If it’s hardware, I need to get it returned. UDPATE: 3/26/2021 So after having this for a few weeks and seeing two firmware updates, no longer have the power issue. TV image quality is fantastic. The EARC has intermittent issues connecting to my receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX-60), but I believe it's more so with the receiver than the TV (waiting on a stable 120hz 4k receiver to be released so I don't need EARC). The LG OS is ok...nothing really makes it stand out considering Xfinity and the XBox have everything their OS offers. However, if you need it for the applications, they work just fine. No real buffer issues or quality degradation (ensure you have at least a 25MB wifi connection for compressed 4K - no your Netflix isn't really streaming in TrueHD 4k). We picked this TV up on a lightning sale (82") for $1300. At that price, the TV is well worth it!

Quality TV that has very user friendly interface
I purchased this TV for a media room and it has been a pleasure to use. There is a learning curve with the LG interface , but it is logical and in time a very rapid way to navigate. It’s size is impressive and everyone remarks on the marvelous picture quality. I waited a few months after purchase to write this review so that I could objectively experience the TV’s ease of use, reliability, and check for glitches. It has surpassed my expectations nicely and I would definitely recommend it .

TV only lasted 2 years
I purchased this 86inch TV in june of 2020. It worked great with no problems for the first 26 months I owned it. 2 weeks ago the back right panel of the TV started flickering. The right half of the screen went dark, and the back panel flickers every 3 seconds. there was no impact to the TV, it just stopped working out of the blue. LG customer support said since the TV was older than 1 year they would not do a repair for it and to contact their local repair shops. I called 3 recommended shops and none of them would do in-home repairs (this thing is 86 inches remember....impossible to transport safely). The repair companies I called also all said that if it was a display issue the cost to repair would be the cost of the TV itself and to buy a new one. So here I am, out thousands of dollars on a TV that didn't even last 2 years. I will never purchase an LG again.

Well worth it!
This flat screen is perfect to me! I can finally read all that fine print. Assembly on the feet fast and easy. Definition wonderful on HD channels, not bad on SD if format is changed. Very pleased with delivery! Delivered by an Amazon delivery truck to a very small town. Package showed no signs of trauma, hook up fast and easy. It is a two man job to lift onto a tv stand so be prepared. I am not a gamer, so no advice or information to share regarding game playing performance. I would recommend!
