great range for the price
This is an effective tracker for the money. I don’t want to track my cat’s every move or keep her penned in. I just wanted to be able to find her if she went on an adventure. Newt, my cat, was just learning the outdoors. She was 6 months when we began training so I didn’t want something big around her neck. My plan is to also have her as a hiking companion so she uses a Voyager harness. In the pics she’s 9-10 months in a size xxxs harness (so you can judge the tracker compared to her size). When she finally was allowed off the lead, she disappeared for longer than I liked. I used the handheld device per the instructions. I was concerned that the woods and buildings would interfere with readings. Our community has 1/3-1/2 acre mostly forested plots. The tracker said she was across the street but I only had one bar — she went on a trip. As I approached the other bars lit up. I was in a tall grassy area with no actual sight of her, but the device said she was right in front of me. Sure enough she streaked out of the grasses back home. She disappeared another time (again so far I only had a single bar) and the tracker took me through heavy woods right to her again. It gives me peace of mind that I can find her if she ever gets away on a hike. I bought the 4 unit set because we are likely moving in the next year and I want trackers on collars for all my cats until they learn their new home. I don’t find the battery changing to be a big deal. It’s just a couple screws. I do have extra batteries so I can just swap them out. regularly.

Won't pair up with new tag.
After the cat lost the two tags that came with the product, I ordered a new tag--which I was unable to register. First of all, the replacement unit was a Pink tag. AFter reading the confusing and incomplete pairing instructions dozens of time, I was unable to determine if each tag color is fixed against Based on the product with 3 and with 4 tags, it appears that the pink tag is hardwired for search #4. The next gap in the instruction id that the tag must be turned on for the pairing. But nowhere is there an instruction to turn on the tag--which is also vague, since there is no on/off switch on the tag. So the only way it can be done is by removing the battery. But, why remove the battery if the tag must be powered on to respond to the pairing command? This kind of sloppy instruction makes the pairing process far more difficult than it should be. But after thorough experimenting with the Set and search buttons, no combination worked. I couldn't not pair the tag, which makes the tracker worthless. Is the problem, associated with the new tag, or simply the instructions is wholly inadequate? As an engineers with decades of experience in designing consumer user interface, I give this one a royal lemon. Please ignore my initial rating. If it can't be registered with replacement tags, it it pretty much useless. This is a very early comment on the Pro-track. I have a cat that likes to roam the neighborhood at night. Homes here are on acre+ size lots with almost jungle like foliage behind the homes, where my cat can easily disappear. In the past, he can usually be located by clapping my hands as I walk up and down the street. But recently for unknown reason, this hasn't been very effective. I suspect that he might have travel far behind the homes and may have gotten lost in the thickets. The more days that he is missing, the more likely he has gone much farther away. The first time I use the Pro-Track, I was able to narrow his location to one or two homes--instead of back tracking repeatedly while clapping my hands, and annoying my neighbors. I was about 800 fet from my house when I heard the first time it beep, I knew that the cat had to be nearby. At am hours, my cat modus operandi is to stealthily return home when he knows I am looking for him. I was about 600 ft from my home when the beeping started to slow down indicating my cat was moving away toward my home.. Just as I suspected, he was already in my front yard when I got back. I was elatded If I can get him home each night, there is much less chance that he might wander deep into the thickets and get lost.for many days. As an RF device, vs tracking devices that use SIM cell phone technology, setup is a breeze. As an aside, I have no options but to go RF as I live in a cell phone dead-spot. The cat is oblivious to the presence of the light weight tag on his collar. The beep from the tag meant to help the searcher to locate the animal has an unexpected benefit. It alerts my cat, much like clapping of my hand, that I am looking for him. In the coming months, I plan to write a more thorough review. Battery life, reliability, performance are factors that I need to address before I can give it a haerty rating.

Excellent when working
When working, it is an excellent tracker. I find it is easier to use the audio tones than just the lights. I live in a hilly terrain and the range is good for at least 150-200 feet. We use it on a large cat and it is so light he didn't notice it at all. The batteries lasted about 3-4 months on the collar device which was fine. Our problem began when his collar came off and the tracker couldn't find the device (the cat came home collar-less). We bought a replacement device for his collar but that one never worked effectively. The handheld device (very cheaply made) also seemed to be acting up. For a cat, this is the lightest and most economical unit out there so I recommend it and am buying a new one. But the durability isn't the best.

Works OK for us
I had really hoped to get a new Loc8tor brand finder when our old one died after several years. This Giraffe thing was the closest type of product I could find. The RF finder is what we need for our particular situation. Our cat does not go far from the house--never more than 100 yards or so, and we live in an isolated farmhouse. We want her in at night so sometimes I have to use this product to find her (if she is outside somewhere) and bring her back. I also have to be able to ascertain if she is already in the house somewhere--in a closet, under a bed--you know how cats are about finding out-of-the-way places to snooze. Anyway, it takes some practice to successfully get an idea of where your cat is with this thing. I find it is a bit too sensitive, which means I can determine if she is in the house, but pinpointing her location is hit or miss. We are fortunate that if she is outside, when this thing is fully lit up she is within hailing distance, and will come if I call her. But if your cat is less "biddable" you might have more trouble locating her. Still, this is the best one can do with this type of finder. I know the reviews are all over the place, but I suspect it comes down to whether it works for you, your household, and your cat. I will concur that it is annoying to have to undo the little screws all the time. The battery discharges quickly compared with the old Loc8tor--I get maybe 3 weeks of use. I bought a set of rechargeable batteries, so I always have a fresh on on hand. The recharger works OK--takes a long time to bring the battery up--overnight at least. I can't decide between 3 and 4 stars for this device. It's not cheap, and it is quite chunky for a small cat like ours; but on the other hand, it has helped me track her down when I might not otherwise have been able to find her. And that is kind of priceless, is it not? The battery life is regrettable short, but not so short I can't live with it--as long as I put the recharge date on my calendar. I do wish the Loc8tr was still available.

Love This Tracker! So Far So Good.
If you have a sneaky little dog like mine that's really good at hide and seek (And sometimes isn't even in the house!) this is a great way to keep track of your pet (dog or cat). She wears a cat collar with Beau's Bells (Also purchased on Amazon) on it so my family has two ways of keeping track of her now. Thankfully she hasn't managed to sneak out of the house again, but this "Cat Tracker" so far has reduced a game of "hide and seek" from 10 minutes and over to less than 5 minutes. To bring up some slight negatives but not enough to take away a star, it's a little expensive but compared to other means of tracking your small pet (assuming they're an indoor pet), it's the least expensive option I've seen with the bonus of being simple to use and effective. The fact you have to change and charge the rechargeable battery (LIR2032H) that goes inside of the tracker tag every 5 days (the instructions say if the battery is 100% drained, it becomes unchargeable), is very annoying and some people may even forget to do this critical step. However, for me, I just put a reminder on my calendar so I don't forget and plan on purchasing more of the batteries so I always have a charged battery for my pet's tracker tag (You can buy them on Amazon). I can't comment on its durability yet since it hasn't even been a week since I got it. The only nitpick I have is that the screws that come with it are really TINY (There is some assembly required.). I wished it came with a tiny bag to hold them (like a really small sandwich bag or something) because they are definitely small enough to get lost themselves. To fix this issue myself, I just used the smallest snack bag I had to hold them. Overall, (just to never have to play my dog's games again) WORTH IT.

Barely better than a toy. Skip.
I've tried 3 different RF trackers and the only one that's good and worth it is the Marco Polo which has significant range and an accurate "pointer". The Girafus Pro-Track-tor Pet Tracker is just up from a toy. It's ok for inside your house or a fenced back yard but not much more than that. It technically works, but very limited. If you're going to spend good money get the Marco Polo by Eureka products, it actually has range and a good "pointer" that actually points in the direction of the tracker. Also as others have pointed out, charging batteries is a pain in the *ss, and need to be charged more often than they say. I got a few days of limited use before needing a charge.

Relief and Peace of Mind.
It works. Thank you a million times, girafus! My biggest concern was the size of the cat collar component. My cat was not going to be subjected to an enormous lump hanging around his neck. I love him. I couldn't do that to him. When I opened the box for my new Girafus, I was so happy and relieved. The girafus collar component is very small. even smaller than it looks in the photos. You don't need a cellphone at all for this or any other complicated bs. It was easy to set up,too. very easy. When you use it, it will give you an occasional false reading, but if you reasonably follow the brightest, signal, and take time to turn around to see which way to get the strongest signal, you'll find your pet. It has taken me rigtht to Bunny-cat every time. I love it. It works when he's outside and I'm inside. It has no problem seeing through trees etc. If a tornado comes, or any emergency, I don't have to imagine the frantic, panicked search under a very short time limit to find my cat, which was one of my worst nightmares. I'm so glad I took a chance and bought thie girafus instead of any of the others. Understanding how to use it just from reading about it is pretty hard, but once it's in your hand , it is simple and even fun. The Girafus comes with a little box you hold in your hand that lights up when you get close to your cat, and can sound al alarm, too, if you choose. The hand held part needs two aaa batteries, the cat collar part needs two button batteries. There's a little black plastic box you put your button rechargeable batterys in to recharge them - for the cat collar part. They also give you some other little goodies in the box the unit comes in, like a silicone cover to keep the cat component dry. I lost a cat once. After four tear-filled days of searching night and day, I got him back. To think of going through that again with my most beloved cat is too scary. Thank you, girafus

Not reliable - tracker turns off on it's own
After about 2 weeks of using the tracker, I have determined that it is not reliable enough to keep using. There are several major flaws, in order of how problematic they are: 1. The tracker "tag" that goes on the pet appears to enter "deep sleep" mode regularly. The instructions mention that this is possible and to take the batteries out and put them back in to wake it up. This is a major problem if it happens while the pet is outside! Two nights ago our cat hadn't come back, so I started tracking. It never picked up a signal. I couldn't find him and eventually went to bed. In the morning he came back. I tested the tracker again - no signal. Batteries were about 6 days old, no flashing signal indicating they were low. Took batteries out and put back in, and the tracker worked again. This is a ridiculous problem that the manufacturers seem to know about. There is no point in counting on a tracker that may enter "deep sleep" whenever it wants. This was not the only time, it had happened twice before, including within an hour of using the unit for the first time. 2. Range is nowhere near 1/4 mile. I have to be within 200 feet at the most to get a signal, even when I can plainly see my cat in front of me. 3. When in search mode, the handset turns itself off every 1 minute while searching if it doesn't get a signal. This is far too quick - the whole point is to keep searching until you find a signal! Have to keep turning it back on constantly. This wouldn't be as big a deal if the range were better, but at 200ft max range, this means it can take a long time to circle around to get a signal, constantly turning the unit back on again. 4. The beep on the pet's tag feature is helpful, but barely audible, and not loud enough at all if there is any noise like wind or traffic. If the beep were much louder, it would actually help find the pet once you were close. Overall, this unit worked for a period of 5 days where I was able to find my cat when I wanted and retrieve him when he didn't come home. He was a former stray who is used to wandering, but I'm trying to get him back in every night due to large predators in our area. So I started getting comfortable that I had figured out the kinks of the tracker. After a few times of not working within these two weeks, I'll be returning it and looking for something else. The only thing worse than no tracker is one that you think will help but turns itself off randomly so you keep searching further and further away, but the cat might be in a bush right next to the house.

Works quite well
I'm generally quite happy with this product. I do have a few things to recommend. 1: There is an instructional video available on YouTube. Search for "Girafus Tracker". The instructions are available in several languages. 2: You will likely find that your cat goes beyond the 500m range more often than you might have thought. Don't panic, it's quite normal! 3: When you need to recharge the battery in each tag, be careful not to lose the screws while the tag is open! (This is a bit of a nuisance; it would be so much better if it were possible to open and close the tag without the use of screws.) 4: I agree with some users that the included instructions are not very clear. In particular, the synchronization between the base unit and the tags is not clarified. However, it is nicely explained in the YouTube video.

Molto bene! Efficace!
Prima dell'acquisto ho valutato a lungo altri dispositivi. Buon "uso" a voi! Ciao! :)
