This book has it all from easy to get going to advanced mathematical concepts. I love it

The title is misleading - this is an advanced math/geometry book, not a crochet book - I am reviewing it fro the point of view of someone who wanted to try hyperbolic crochet like the crocheted coral reef exhibit that was traveling the country a few years ago. It isn't that at all - as a math/geometry book it may well rate lots more stars than I'm giving it, but as a crochet guide - not!

Hyperbolic geometry is common and extremely useful, but the subject is almost always taught in an arcane way. This book allows a more intuitive approach in understanding, which is critical for applied mathematicians.

I bought this book because I had shown my students a video of Daina Taimina's amazing crochet surfaces and wanted to find out more about how to make a surface myself. I had not anticipated the wealth of beautiful images from art and nature that accompanied the stunning shapes that have been created. The maths is well explained too. If you needed to show someone how creative mathematics can be, then this is a really remarkable book. I will definitely have a go!

I really like this as a something different crochet book. I like the patterns as they teach you new skills and you end up with something that your more scientific/academic friends will laugh at when they visit as they cant believe you have one :) I liked learning a bit of history/math while doing them as well. Great for using yarn scraps as well.

Smashing book if you like maths ... Which I do. Would've been 5 stars if the cover hadn't got creased by the packaging
