Maya E Groups: Calendars, Astronomy, and Urbanism in the Early Lowlands (Maya Studies)
J**H
Pre- classic Maya
The subject matter was excellent. It's a hard read and you should be well versed in Mayan nomenclature. Sometimes I felt these incredible Mayanists were talking amongst themselves. Some what academic, unlike Maya Cosmos or Forest of the Kings where the authors took liberty in re-constructing events to make it real for the reader. As a Maya enthusiast this book opened my eyes to the Pre-Classic Maya and their contributions that led to the Classic period. Very little has been written on E-Groups, their function, and consequences pertaining to their development hundreds of years B.C.My only hesitation on giving it 5 stars (which I did) is that it seemed this was written for an upper level Maya course study or even graduate level. If your up for a challenge GO FOR IT, I did and am a better person for it.
