A Paddler's Guide to Algonquin Park

Great book.Gave information on canoe routes

This is not a guide book, but more like a journal. It is missing important pieces of information that guide books should have, and is not useful for planning a paddling trip through Algonquin Park.

This is an excellent book if you intend to do extended canoe camping in the park. However, all the paddling sites are for trips of 2 or more days (or even "8-12 days ... 22 portages"!). I wanted a book for trips of several hours, such as the books and maps available for the Adirondacks. Thus, it is useless for my purposes. I understand the appeal of longer expeditions, but it would have been very nice to have some short paddles as well.

In short, I was hoping that there would be more structure, like distances, portages, paddle times, etc. What I found was more of a trip journal from one particular visit with comments about the conditions during that day.

I have done a few bigger trips into Algonquin back country. One of which included one of the least travelled and used portage "trails" in the park and I am finding this book extremely insightful and interesting. I have learned so much from the shared information inside and am looking forward to checking out sites and points of interest that I did not even notice in areas I have been to in the past! LOVE THIS BOOK! buy it if this is your jam!

I actually bought this to be included in a basket for our school's fundraising. It looks like an I formative book for someone interested on trying a canoe trip with portage. To be honest, I wanted to keep the book for myself. I'm not sure I would ever do it but I would like to think about trying it.

Happy camper is fun to read (and watch on YouTube). Has definitely helped with planning of my trips. A great resource for anyone who canoe trips into the park at any experience level
