“Classic Jeans That Feel Like Old Friends (But Less Judgy)”
These Levi’s 501s are pretty much what you picture when someone says “jeans.” They’ve been around since the 1870s and have basically defined denim ever since—so you’re literally wearing history (in the best way possible). The straight leg and regular fit sit at your waist and feel comfortable out of the box, while the button fly gives you that authentic vintage vibe every time you zip them up. I’ve worn them to casual dinners, yard work, and even just lounging on the couch, and they’ve been great all around. The denim feels substantial without being too stiff, and they hold up surprisingly well through washes. These aren’t skinny or baggy—just classic, timeless jeans that pair with literally anything. Pros: • Timeless Style & Fit: Classic straight leg and regular through the thigh—goes with tees, boots, or your favorite jacket. • Versatile: Whether you cuff them or let them hang, they always look good. • Durable Denim: Denim that feels like it’s made to last (and age nicely). • Iconic Button Fly: A fun throwback detail that actually works. Cons: • Break‑In Time: They’re great right away, but get even better after some wears—so expect a little “breaking in.” • Sizing Can Matter: If you’re between sizes, try them on—different washes and years can fit a bit differently. Overall, these are classic American jeans that are worth having in your wardrobe. Simple, effective, and legitimately stylish—Levi’s nailed it.

Second Pair Purchased - First Pair Too Big; This Pair Absolutely Perfect, and Buying More
Perfect fit. Sorry if this is long, but it's been a weird experience with the 501 STFs through the past two orders. I ordered one pair, following Levi's instructions for sizing STFs. I hadn't owned a pair in like 20 years, so I don't remember how I used to size them. Looking back, I think I just bought my regular waist and one size up in length, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the first pair I ordered (Rigid, STF) were sized up one inch in the waist and two in the length. I wear a 33x29, but usually buy 33x30 since 29L is pretty hard to find. I ordered the first pair in a 34x32, sizing up one in the waist and two in the length. I hot soaked them and they barely shrank at all, so I tossed them in the dryer. Still barely noticeable. So I hot soaked them again and put them in the dryer. Still not a good fit at all, and there's a weird bump over my tailbone. They're wearable, but just barely because they are still too big and I look like I'm hiding a tail stub over my butt. Now, on to this pair (burgundy): I just bought these in my usual size (32x30), wore them in a hot bath for 30 minutes, got out and let them drip dry on me, then hung them on a pinch hanger until they were almost dry but still damp. I put them on and wore them until they were totally dry, taking care to avoid bending over or bending my knees or anything. I just stood in my living room and watched the Super Bowl until they were 1005 dry. That was absolutely successful! These are the best-fitting pair that I own now, and I just ordered a pair of the black STFs that arrive tomorrow. I'm hoping that I can get the same result with this next pair; if so, I'll probably order another pair of the blue Rigids and donate the first pair to Goodwill or whatever. Sorry for the novel, but that's my experience.

Real Levi's 501 Quality. Still the Best Value and Personal Fit in denim.
These are REAL Levi's 501s. I don't know what all the griping is about from the highest viewed review dated 2020. It's 2023 people. These 501s are coming direct from Levi Strauss & Co. through Amazon. They aren't knock offs, fakes, or counterfeit 501s. I got mine and they have all the button stamps ink stamps, and codes that Levi's have always had through the years. I've been wearing Levis for 50+ years, so I have a little experience. I've tried all the other jean brands, and even the high end jeans, and even the brands inspired by Levi's, and still keep coming back to Levi's 501 STF. The 501 STF is still the benchmark for rugged denim that shrinks to perfectly fit your body. I'm 5'11 185 lbs. I order W35 L36. After FOLLOWing THE INSTRUCTIONS - wear them in the tub on a hot day, then go out and do some ranch or yard work. Let them dry and shrink to fit your body. After a few wear and cold washing cycles, they shrink down to W34 L32-33 depending on how warm you dry 'em. They'll still fit over western boots, too. If you like your denim stiff and raw, order your actual size. Although, I've yet to meet someone who actually does this. Seems that it would be a little uncomfortable. Some reviewers say they aren't the same 501 as they were decades ago. Question for them...What these days is the same as it was decades ago? I can't think of much, including myself. And what's all the griping about where they're made? Yeah-Yeah, I'd love for them to still be made in the good 'ol USA, by USA workers, but that's not in the cards these days. Thank politicians and trade deals for that. The pairs I ordered were made in Egypt. I was curious, so I searched this out. Have you seen the online videos of this state of the art manufacturing facility? It's pretty impressive - with what appears to be modern equipment and high tech, good quality processes in place to ensure consistency. And what's not to love about Egyptian cotton? The 501's I have that are a few years old are now thick and soft - the product of washing them inside out and drying properly. This also ensures uniform fading of the denim so they will look great too. Bottom Line, if you want a pair of jeans that will fit you perfectly, and last years, I recommend going with the 501 Shrink to Fit (STF). If you don't want to invest the time to break them in and have a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly, you can buy the already pre-shrunk 501 versions. If the buttons bug you, go with the zippered 505s. The 505 is supposedly the same as the 501 but with a zipper. Although, I don't believe Levi's makes 505s in a STF version anymore.

Nice jeans.
Looks great. Fits snug. Unless your sure would order a size up. Levi is always outstanding quality. The white is amazing. No smell, I have noticed that mainly black dye products mainly have. Soft. Little give in seat and thigh but not lots.

The Gold Rush of Denim
There’s a strange poetry to the way certain objects become embedded in the culture. Like a key that opens something far bigger than you expected. And if there’s one item of clothing that’s done that more than almost anything else, it’s Levi’s 501 jeans. You know them. Everyone knows them. The number itself—501—is practically a legend. A claim to something more than just denim. It’s the kind of number you’d see on an old gold-mining claim. The thing that started it all. The foundation. Levi Strauss wasn’t out there looking for gold, but in some ways, that’s exactly what he found. Because these jeans are something you don’t just wear. They’re something you inherit. They’ve lived a thousand lives before they even touch your legs. And when you put them on, you feel the weight of it. It’s like stepping into a legacy of men who built America with their hands, their sweat, their grit. And that—that—is not lost on you. The 501s have been around since the days of the Gold Rush, worn by miners and cowboys, soldiers and laborers, roughnecks and rebels. They’ve seen things. They’ve been places. They’ve survived hard labor, tough winters, long nights of uncertainty. Maybe you’ve never mined for gold or fought in a war, but when you button up those jeans, you can’t help but feel connected to those who did. There’s something elemental about them. The blue denim is like the color of a deep, unspoken sky, one that has seen everything and held its peace. But beyond the history, beyond the weight of their heritage, there’s the way they fit. The button-fly, which, let’s face it, makes you feel like you’re in a John Steinbeck novel—somewhere between The Grapes of Wrath and The Outsiders, like a kid on the cusp of something big but unsure of how it’s going to go. They’re a little bit rebellious, a little bit nostalgic, a little bit tough. You slide them on, and it’s like taking a step into that world—where the world’s a little harder, a little less forgiving, but you wear it with confidence. Sure, they’re not the most comfortable thing when you first get them, but that’s part of it. You wear them in. They get better, like an old leather jacket or a favorite pair of boots. Over time, they become a second skin. And like any good thing worth waiting for, they remind you that effort, endurance, and a little discomfort are what lead to something that feels real. The cut? It’s a classic. Straight-leg. Timeless. You could dress them up with a blazer or throw on a vintage tee, but they’ll always have that air of rebellion about them—like they’ve been through things you’ll never fully understand. They’re not fashionable—no, they transcend that. They’re iconic. They don’t need to follow trends because, honestly, they set them. It’s like having a piece of history in your closet, waiting to be worn, to be earned. If you ever felt like a character in The Outsiders—a little out of place, a little misunderstood—you’ll understand why these jeans feel like a rite of passage. Like the tough but heartfelt soul of America, handed down through the years, stitched into denim. They might not dig for gold anymore, but they’re still mining something priceless: authenticity.

Great pants for western themed events
Waist fits perfectly. It felt like it ran too long at 32” (I’m 6’2) but I think that’ll be fine since I’m using this with cowboy boots. Overall they feel great and look good enough to wear to a western themed event.

My favorite jeans
I’m a woman. 5’4” about 115 lbs and these are my perfect jeans. 28 waist and 32 length. I have them in several washes. All perfect. It’s hard to find women’s jeans without stretch which tend to bag in some places after sitting.

Don't shrink the way they used to.
Been wearing Levi jeans for 45 years, but "dependable" is no longer a word I'd use to describe them. There was a time when I could buy a pair of 501's, wash them and get exactly the fit I wanted. My most recent purchase was a 33x33 and I was expecting them to shrink to about 32x30. After a good wash and dry, the waist was a perfect 32, but the length only shrank half a size. The only "con" was the shrink factor. After getting a good wash, the jeans had the classic color and feel I was expecting from a good pair of 501's. Its too bad they're so long. Yes, I could roll them up, but don't want to create a pocket for hitchhikers. Tried to purchase the next size down, but they were sold out. Of course...lol. If I can't get a good pair of Levi's, there's always Dickies and they'r a lot more affordable.

Testbestellung
Ich trage überwiegend Jeans von Levis. Diese Jeans hatte ich zum Test bestellt. Ich schickte sie zurück weil sie zu klein war.

the jeans shrunk and fitted like a glove
Remember, remember, the Levis shrink to fit ... I had not bought my 501's for some years and when they arrived and I tried them they seemed very big in the waist and long in length ... even though i matched the size with my current 501's which are threadbare ... but, on first wash, as i now recall, the jeans shrunk and fitted like a glove. Very pleased, great colour and price. Recommend.
