Classic Guitar Styles of Duke Robillard: A Guide to Playing Authentic Blues, Jazz and Rock 'n' Roll

Duke Robillard truly is, as BB King said, "one of the greats." The CD contains full-band performances of the solos, and they are hot! (They're also lengthy: 5 or 6 choruses are common. That's a lotta licks!) They are also diverse: jump blues, swing, Chicago blues, rhythm changes, Memphis funk, and all-out boogie. The transcriptions / tab are spot on. (We expect nothing less from Dave Rubin, Duke's collaborator here.) The book includes several pictures of Duke with other blues legends as well as biographical info, stories / reminiscences, and a discography. The CD makes for great listening by itself. As you work with it, you'll find ideas, phrases, and whole choruses you want to learn and incorporate into your own playing. Lot of valuable lessons here!

OMG! This is just too good for words. If you want to play swing blues guitar, this is it.

Yes, the CD is worth the price alone. In one ear you can study the rhythm side of each track and in the other ear start to work on the many choruses of each track. Duke wants you to understand what he's doing and where it comes from. He's as interested in the guitars as he is in the music and the book is loaded with information about the history of the music he plays and the instruments he plays it on. There's a great section of suggestions for listening and anecdotes of the greats he's studied and played with throughout his career. I suspect co-author Dave Rubin has done a lot to make this package so accessible.Also check out Duke's DVD lessons on his hero, T Bone Walker, along with a Hot Shots DVD of lessons and a concert DVD of him playing. Estupendo este libro del gran guitarrista Duke Robillard. Contiene todo lo que cabría esperar: generosas partituras con tablaturas muy exactas de 11 temas de blues de distintos estilos, consejos sobre guitarras, fotos con las leyendas del género, datos biográficos, etc. Totalmente recomendable.

Swing aufgezeigt.Die Songs sind in Noten und Tabulatur transkribiert und sind auf der beiliegenden CD vom Meister selbst eingespielt.In den sog. "Performance Notes" werden jeweils spezielle Tipps zum Spielen der Songs gegeben.In einem eigenen Kapitel werden spezielle Blueschords und Turnarounds vorgestellt.Abgerundet wird das Ganze durch Tipps zur Equipmentauswahl und ein paar Anekdoten.Durch die Hörbeispiele hat das Buch meiner Meinung nach einen sehr hohen Praxiswert.Sehr empfehlenswert, nicht nur für Duke Fans. Von diesem Buch kann jeder, der sich mit Blues auseinandersetzen will profitieren, egal ob er Anfänger oder Fortgeschrittener ist.
