Definitely worth it!
Normally, most Melatonin, whether capsules or tablets, and whether purchased online or in stores, come, generally, in 1 mg, 3 mg, 5 mg and, occasionally, 10 mg and costing between about $10.00 to $20.00 for, give or take, about 100 quantity. Unfortunately, the quality and accuracy of quantity is never assured thus leaving one to guess how any to take. Having taken Melatonin, on average about 20mg per night, for the better part of twenty years I can say that finding good quality Melatonin is a definite hit or miss proposition. One brand (going by their label) may require anywhere from 30 to 50 or more mg but, in point of fact, the actual amount taken, per results, is actually far less. Which is the reason for deciding to switch to the bulk form. After spending some days (and nights) reviewing what was available I decided that Bulk Supplements Melatonin would be a good candidate to try. As an initial test I went for the 10 gram (.35oz) bag of Bulk Supplement's Melatonin. Also, after reviewing, decided to, also, go for a bottle of 200 of Carlson's Empty Gelatin #2 Capsules (I chose this because the capsules came in a bottle; although, future may see bags which can be transferred to bottles and which are cheaper I larger quantity). Additionally, I opted for Synaptent's Disposable Antistatic Polypropylene Sample Transfer Scoop, 8-12 mg Capacity, Large, Blue (Pack of 100) FBA. "Heaping" amounting to about 20mg +/-. Finally, I chose the American Weigh Scales GEMINI-20 Portable MilliGram Scale, 20 by 0.001 G for weighing and measuring. Regarding all thee options I am most happy with. Now, then, as to Bulk Supplement's Melatonin; first, a comment as to the packaging. It came in a small zip lock baggie (which, as another reviewer noticed, the zip lock after only a few times, tore and was of little value. This, the small baggie, came inside a larger metallic zip lock baggy containing the label and, after folding over the inner baggie which was then repeatedly after each use, replaced inside the metallic baggie/envelope. This proved unacceptable for dispensing, i.e. "spooning" out of the baggie for insertion into a capsule (about 7 [i.e. 1 week's worth] capsules filled at a time. The smaller baggie is impossible to keep open while withdrawing a "spoonful"; also, I need to find some means to make the larger half of the capsules to remain in an upright position while setting on the scale being filled. I finally used an old small RX airtight jar which has answered one of those two problems. I strongly urge Bulk Supplements to switch from baggies to small jars that will sit upright and make it easier and less sloppily to work from. Finally, as to the Melatonin itself, and this is after only about two weeks now, I am finding that about 25mg per dose works quite fine for my needs. Now this must be tempered against my own body chemistry, about 30 other vitamins, minerals and supplements and several RX prescriptions I currently take daily for several years now. (I am, also, taking 5-HTP [capsule form] in tandem with the Melatonin; however, I recently ordered this in bulk from Bulk Supplement's but since that was only received today it will be about two weeks before a review can be made). As to the quality of the Melatonin, using the scale, I am finding, as previously mentioned, 25mg gives good-and calm-sleep with no detrimental side effects upon awakening. Others, depending on their own individual body chemistry etc make fid less, 5 or 10 mg perhaps, will be satisfactory for their needs, this can only be determined by individual trial and error. Fortunately, in these small dosages Melatonin is not something to be too concerned with as regards over dosage. If normal bottles of Melatonin (assume $15/avg per bottle for 100 tabs/caps then this 10 gram bag for $16.96 equals (for me, about 500 doses) about $75 or about a $60 savings. Obviously, for others needing, say only 10mg per dose, then the savings immediately jumps to about $100. All in all, I am most happy with this initial trial and am considering strongly looking into replacing many of my bottles of other vitamins, minerals and supplements (close to $400/mo) with the bulk alternative. Kudos to Bulk Supplements for making these items available; in addition to the purity and quality, the cost alone, especially for retired persons and/or those of limited budgets, is a very worthwhile alternative.

The dose is 1 to 3 milligrams, NOT 1 to 3 GRAMS! :)
My psychiatrist recommended that I use a powder based melatonin product over any others because the powder acts much faster than the other forms. I'll review the product before I explain the title of this review. I got this in quickly after ordering. It was packaged well and I am very happy with the seller. There is a little zip-lock baggie containing 25 GRAMS of the melatonin powder inside the aluminum foil pouch. The product is amazing. When I take it, I gently fall asleep within about 15 minutes. It get a good, full night's rest and wake up feeling normal (as in there are no side effects from the melatonin powder that I can detect). To take this, I open the baggie and take out 1 to 3 MILLIgrams of the powder and place it on my tongue. I wash it down with about 4 ounces of water and then immediately get into bed and try to relax. This stuff works so quickly for me that I sometimes fall asleep while praying! I recommend that anyone who has sleep issues and wants to try a melatonin product to give this one a try. It seems expensive compared to capsules and other products, but with this particular item, you are getting 8,333 doses for the price! I believe this is pure, bulk malatonin and I want to say there is no filler of any kind in it. Okay, now to explain the headline (a cautionary tale). I don't know why, but when I first ordered this product, I thought it said the dosage was 1 to 3 GRAMS. That would make this purchase provide between 8 and 25 doses. I thought it was kind of expensive for the price, but I am following my doctor's suggestions. I started out with a 1 gram dose. I slept REALLY well and about 18 hours! I did this for a few days. I then wondered if I was lucky and didn't need to take a full gram, so I cut down to about a half gram. I was still sleeping for between 12 and 16 hours a day! (I am not able to work right now, so over-sleeping isn't the end of the world for me) My sleep cycle was all over the place. Sometimes I was up from late at night to sunrise, and sometimes I was in bed at 6 pm and slept until noon the next day! After about a week, I put on my glasses and read the back of the package. Lo and behold, the dosage was 1 to 3 MILLIgrams. Whoops! Where did I get 1 to 3 GRAMS from? Maybe it was my sleep deprived state that made me SEE that high dosage. I'm caught up on my sleep now, though! :) I adjusted my dosage way down to about 1 to 3 milligrams (such a small amount is really hard to measure out -- you might want to buy a digital scale). Since changing to the suggested dosage, I have been able to get back on a regular sleep schedule and my sleep duration is about 7.5 to 9 hours a night. I am very happy with this. If my body winds up needing to pee while I'm asleep, I can still wake up from my slumber without any kind of brain fog or sluggishness and use the restroom. After, when I hop back into bed, I fall back to sleep quickly and without issue. I recommend this product and plan to buy it again if the need arises.

Terrible reaction to this product
I'm updating my review and increasing my rating, because I've since had good results with this product. I'll leave the original review as a warning to be careful stepping into dosing. I solved the problem by doing some math and concluding that 0.4 teaspoon of the product in a few ounces of water would give me a workable dose by the eyedropper-full or two, and then I started low to check for reaction. All went well, and this makes dosing this product much easier and safer. It doesn't mix very well with water, so I shake well before squeezing the eyedropper. Original review: I've been taking melatonin for a couple of weeks, and have had good results with it. I worked up from 5mg to the 40-50mg range. Response was linear. It made me sleepy and helped deepen my sleep. If I took too little I would pop another one mid-night, and if I took too much it soon wore off and I would take less next time. And so I decided to start saving money by buying in bulk. I give a lot of business to Bulk Supplements and have been very happy with them. So I bought this product, and I bought a .01ml scoop, which translates to between 10 and 15mg of powder. I figured three scoops would be in my range, and I wouldn't mind going a bit over either. One scoop two nights ago did not help me sleep at all, and I had mild palpitations. Then three scoops last evening put me into hard insomnia all night. I had extreme cold sensitivity, though it was not cold in the room, and heart palpitation again, and when I got up to use the bathroom I discovered significant neuropathy in my feet - something I haven't had in ages. It was then that I realized that my entire nerve system was under attack. The fact that this did nothing to help my sleep tells me that this product is different from the other melatonin I was taking. Something is very wrong here. Bulk Supplements really should allow returns when a product is defective. But be advised: returns are not offered here. I do not recommend this product.

WARNING: Recommended dose is too small to weigh, PLS READ!!!!
Ordinarily, I love Bulk Supplements, and I buy most of my supplements from this company. But here's the problem with melatonin. And I only discovered this AFTER I ordered it (and so I returned it). The bag says that the recommended dose is 3mg. I did some research. Actually, the recommended dose is 0.3mg. Yep - 0.3mg. And this TINY amount only can be measured accurately by a laboratory scale costing at minimum $400, and often much more (plus they're huge). If you take more than this, the result is hypothermia, headaches, tiredness during the day, and - perhaps worst of all - IT STOPS WORKING TO HELP YOU SLEEP. I know all this because I did some research on optimal dosing after I bought the melatonin, and found the original study by MIT that discovered melatonin was able to reverse sleep problems associated with aging in people over 50. They tested 3 different doses: 0.1mg, 0.3mg (the physiologic dose - i.e. the dose that brings melatonin levels in 50+ year old people back to the levels of younger people), and 3mg. The optimal dose was 0.3mg. The highest dose, 3mg, was associated the problems I described (hypothermia, headaches, no longer helps with sleep). MIT patented the optimal 0.3mg dose. <--- PATENTED And then what happened??? Companies didn't want to pay MIT for the patent, so they started selling melatonin in much higher doses, marketing this as more effective, though in fact it was less effective. Our friends at Bulk Supplements can't be expected to do in-depth research for every supplement they sell, so I don't fault them for not knowing this history and putting a recommended dose of 3mg on the bag, but this should be changed to 0.3mg. Which brings us back to the problem... Unless you have a $400+ lab scale taking up about 1.5 feet of counter space, you are not going to be able to accurately weigh this out! Furthermore, the amount of melatonin that Bulk Supplements is selling in even the smallest bag contains over 33,000 doses at 0.3mg per night. I take care of myself, but I'm sure I'm not going to live that long! So, much as I hate filler, what I've done instead is to buy a $5 bottle of 5mg melatonin capsules with rice flour filler. I've found that each capsule containing 5mg of melatonin weighs 500mg, so it's 5mg melatonin and 450mg rice flour. I can divide this up on my 0.01g scale into 0.3mg portions of melatonin, and pour it into smaller capsules. The optimal melatonin dose is so small that this $5 bottle will last for a very long time. Each 5mg capsule becomes 15 doses (with small loss of power during weighing) and there are 240 capsules in the bottle. That's 3600 doses (nearly 10 years) for $5. And in case you're wondering... I've tried the 0.3mg dose, and MIT is right. It works.

Cost Effective!
I saw this product as I was purchasing bulk Taurine from BulkSupplements (I make my own cat food), and figured I would give it a shot as well. I firmly believe that this product is of excellent quality. I take melatonin frequently, and the bottles that I purchase are an order of magnitude (10 times) the price per gram compared to this package. My only issue with this product was that, as a pure material, this melatonin is a fluffy solid similar to powdered sugar dust. As such, in the foil bag that it came in, the powder had become caught in the plastic grooves of the sealing part of the bag, making it next to impossible to grab a micro-spatula scoop-full out of the bag without getting melatonin on my hands and the scoop handle, or getting a poof of melatonin dust when closing the bag. This is not a gripe worthy of knocking a star off of this product, as I have a feeling the product has to be packaged this way (probably government regulations). My solution was to (carefully and slowly) pour as much melatonin onto a piece of paper (preferably slick paper or a non-static transparency sheet) and transfer this to a better container. I used a mason jar that I thoroughly labeled to indicate contents, warnings, and the statement "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." (go ahead, call me paranoid). After the bulk of the material has been removed from the bag and transferred, the bag can then be tapped multiple times on the paper to loosen and remove more melatonin. Like I said before, this is fluffy like dust,so sudden or rapid movements will cause the powder to poof!

Impossible to measure dose correctly.
The problem as many other's have stated is it's impossible to measure correctly because the dose is so small. I guess if your taking 1000mg's maybe you'd be able to but for the rest of us not so much. I ended up practically overdosing on the stuff. slept like a baby but was groggy all next day. I'll probably just stick to the pills.

Don't buy too much, because it's perishable. A pound is 3 to 7 years' worth of chemo adjuvant.
Hi. I'm subscribed for this purchase, like many others from Bulk Supplements. I endorse it 5 stars w/o getting any compensation. Be forewarned that - that otherwise happens here with other sellers and reviewers. I know because I've been solicited. Second - Value for money. This melatonin is $70 a pound, next best is a different brand online at $100 a pound. Next best is Micro...something on Amazon at $20 for 8 grams. All are made offshore. Imported. Unregulated. The Details - This powder is more stable dry, and best first dissolved in a tiny amount of ethanol, and is otherwise difficult to get wet, and the dry powder irritates my throat. Short lived after wetted. Keep it cool. Pulse. Myself, I Google'd it for typical 180mg. portions for lumps. One can get a capsule loading kit and gelatin caps here on Amazon, but I go with the ease of Everclear. Regarding scales, you get the quality you pay for. I go volumetric portioning for the simplicity. A different tiny spoon in every bag of powder. As to Quality - Understand that no labeling accuracy laws apply in the USA to nonfood nondrugs. That's right, expect content ambiguity. And that's why 3rd party lab certifications are so important, and why pill pushers get unwanted notoriety. No thing is ever as it seems. And no thing is ever pure. ""US made"" often applies only to a USA assembly of foreign goods. Caveat emptor means "Let the buyer beware", an old legal concept regarding highly probable deceptions in the sales of goods. Follow me for more reviews. This platform blocks about half of mine as being too harsh. And that's after me spending thousands here. Still, I say buy Amazon for the 30 day return refund policy
