Ghana Travel Reference Map: 1:500,000 Paperback – Folded Map, January 17, 2011

This is certainly the best most detailed map available for Ghana. It is quite large, with each side of the large map only covering half of the country ... but it shows even small remote villages that have no electricity, water or sewer or even passable roads. But as many have written, much of Ghana has never been accurately mapped ... most of the "civilization" is close to the southern coast and when you travel north, much of the mapping is a bit of guess-work ... so I suppose that the map has the best available "guess-work". It is certainly worth buying if you plan to travel in Ghana.

I really like the layout of this map. It is not small. Probably that is also it one drawback. The map takes up both sides of the rather large paper. Fortunately, I was mostly interested in the southerm half of Ghana and didn't have to keep turning it over. Although the sheet is rather large and cumbersome, it does allow for greater detail, and give a sense of largeness to the country.

I just returned from a 7 week tour of Ghana, and much to my dismay the innumerable inaccuracies contained in this map caused me a lot of lost time. Essentially other than the major routes, the rest of the roads and paths indicated are not much more than imagination. Many smaller towns are not on this map or placed sometimes by dozens of kilometers from their actual locations. Major towns (like the booming Kasoa not far from Accra) are not even on this map.Eventually I used this map to wrap my shoes when packing my bags.Any traveler will be better served by relying on the small but detailed maps from the current Bradt Travel Guide, although they do cover only "touristy" parts of Ghana.

Very detailed and very large. I wish it were all on one side but because it is so big it is very detailed.

This book will help me when travelling to Ghana, it has adequate information and interesting places and sites to see for the average traveller.

This map is invaluable to any traveller to Ghana as it is the only one I have been able to find. It is however somewhat flimsy, printed on both sides and nowhere near OS standads.

The map is helpful for locatings major roads, towns and geographic features but, despite being the 2011 edition, seems to have some omissions such as a major reservoir to the west of Accra and errors in the boxed text. The so-called "production reserves" caused confusion among our expert wildlife guides who had no idea what the term meant.
