Terrific seasonal book that can be read year-round
I always love a seasonal book that can be read year-round, and much like Sweep, Little Tree is a wonderful fall book that isn’t so fall-themed it can only be read in September and October. A story of change, growing up, and letting go, a story of encouraging friends through words, presence, and patience, Little Tree will please children and adults alike! Ages 5-8.

So simple, yet so emotional.
I bought this book initially because the author/illustrator is from my hometown, and because he is one of the best illustrators on the planet. I thought it would be cute - and it is adorable, but it really hits home. I am a mom who has a young adult child and one teenager. The time is quickly approaching when they will leave the nest and the story of the little tree holding tightly to his leaves just brought me to tears. It is a precious book and fitting for little children and adults alike.

A great gift for empty nesters & a great read for kiddos
Much like "Oh The Places You Will Go" is for graduating HS seniors, this is my go-to-book as a gift for parents facing an empty nest be it a child graduating from HS or one leaving the nest for good in general. Plus, I'm a tree hugger and I love this story is based on a tree who is having a hard time letting go of its leaves.

This is so beautiful. Here are four reasons I know it's beautiful
This book has so much emotion... and it's about a TREE!This is so beautiful. Here are four reasons I know it's beautiful:I cried the first four times I read it.I cried as I was telling some adult friends about it at a conference this weekend.I cried when I shared it with my three teenagers.I did NOT cry writing this review... but I almost did. :)Read it. DO IT. Seriously. It is BEAUTIFUL.

This book is wonderful!!
This book is wonderful!!! It discusses about the fear of letting go and how that can prevent one from growing and moving forward. Even adults can take away meaning from this book. I have bought this for a gift for a couple of friends' childrens and recommended to some teachers. Definitely worth adding to your child's personal library collection or to the classrooms.

Cute story with great illustration.
We bought this book in 2015 for our 3 and 5 year old children. They still request it from time to time. It is a cute tale that is memorable with great art that the kids love.

Highly recommend, a lovely book about change
We have read this book every night for a week, it has grabbed the curiosity and attention of my 3.5-year-olds and we have loved it.A tree, growing up with other little trees, is scared to let go of his leaves in the autumn. He is warm with them, he is used to them and he fears the change.Through the cold winter, he keeps his leaves, but in the spring the other trees grow new leaves, and grow taller and the squirrels and birds no longer visit Little Tree.Next autumn Little Tree is still scared, and holds onto his brown leaves. We see the forest and animals changing through the seasons and trees grow tall around him. Little Tree no longer has sunlight. But then, he does something very brave, he lets go of his leaves. And he is indeed cold in the winter, but in the spring, he grows green leaves, and he grows and by the end of the book he is a tall tree, with the squirrels and birds playing in his leaves. This book is primarily about how change is scary and how Little Tree has to be courageous to drop his leaves. Although we were able to discuss lots of science, why leaves fall from trees, why they need leaves and sunlight to grow, clearly Little Tree wouldn’t be able to survive several years without green leaves. But I am willing to overlook that as the science conversation it supported was useful. Each page has a clear and simple step in the story which is so appealing, we discuss what is happening before moving on and I think gives the book anticipation when re-reading.Overall though, I love the peace and gentleness of this book. It really is just lovely and more than a book about a tree, it is just perfect for children.
