Very readable, practical book
I love this book. Simple principles of good teaching with examples of how to apply them throughout. Also very readable so it doesn't feel like you're reading a textbook. It's worth noting that I didn't realise they sold subject-specific versions when I bought this. If I had realised I would have bought the 'Making every Maths lesson count' one. But they try to use examples from all different subjects so it's still applicable.

Disappointed
Too general and a lot of waffle, I was expecting more than waffle. Not a book I would recommend, you may find it interesting, I didn’t.

Highly, highly recommended!
An excellent book based on common sense, research and evidence from their own classrooms. Allison and Tharby present an accessible framework based around 6 principles of effective teaching and learning. The book is highly practical and teachers from all contexts will unearth a number of useful strategies in it. The book is also extremely well supported by brilliant artwork by Jason Ramasami. Highly, highly recommended. Buy a personal copy and one for your department/faculty/school!

Engaging
I have only just started reading this book and can tell that already I have bagged a bargain. Recommended from a fellow student teacher, I find the way that it is set out really easy to understand and touches upon some of the key concepts that can help improve your practice. I would thoroughly recommend.

Readable, informative, pragmatic
Bridges the gap between (genuinely useful) theory and practice so well, and so it is a really useful book about ‘teaching’; no nonsense, no fluff.
