I like cooking films but bygawd this is awful.
I don't like to cook and I don't like Great British Bake Off or Hell's Kitchen. I like a movie that is cooking-centric though for whatever reason. I usually have to settle for rom-com stuff, like this, to be able to find a cooking movie but it is what it is. I can say proudly I made it more than half way through this film. I was going to quit after 10 mins but I read some of the negative reviews which were so stupid and incoherent I decided to stick it out thinking maybe it blossomed later on into something tolerable. I mean a lot of the negative reviews were about cussing or the portent of a lesbian relationship which never occurs or the actors motivation for acting poorly.Basically, the script is shallow and awful. Completely predictable plot that is executed with flat "acting" and awful camera work. I legit said WTF during a few of the camera transitions and movements because I had no idea what was going on or what the intent of such poorly framed shots or mistimed movements could be. To say Gordon Ramsey's cameo role was on par for the best acting in the film is a compliment to none of the cast. Most of the cast had a chemistry akin to an improv group who's skit was failing. It was just awkward. Like really awkward. The relationship between the female lead and the male lead's daughter was just wedged in. The guy basically hated this woman then she comes in from some incident with the daughter, that isn't shown or explained, he yells at her then the next day she is acting like the kid's mom and taking her out to the park and tucking her into bed at night. I have never seen such a poorly implemented plot device in a movie. The big bad antagonist is some geezer who basically decides he should be upset about something he had claimed would be a good idea 30 mins earlier in the film. What is the big point of contention between our villain and hero you ask? Well its traffic. The pub gets too busy. I don't know how I couldn't hang on and see the outcome of such an intense and malevolent obstacle for our hero.Anyway, I assume it concludes with evil geezer finding out his daughter loves the chef guy, then geezer eats the chef's pudding and falls in love with chef as well. Geezer and his daughter have a knife fight to decide who will get the chef and all his pudding. Geezer wins by killing his own daughter but she maims him to the point that he can neither enjoy pudding nor the chef, in all their delicious sensuality. The chef goes on to forge the one pudding to bind them all. End of credits teaser hints at a sequel.THE END, please don't watch this or orphans will be tortured...you have been warned. Think of the orphans.

Awesome movie!
I find this movie to be very moving. So.e of the reviews state that it's boring, and the script is weak. You need to watch this movie again. And the comment about the chemistry between Mr. Scott and his wife Claire Forlani, well if you don't have chemistry, you don't have it! It doesn't matter if your married or not.I'm not a writer so my words may be a little misunderstood. But when I first came to watch this movie, it was because I saw Dougray Scott in Ever After. Then I looked up the movies he has filmed. I think he is so handsome and intriguing. His performance in Ever After was amazing. But to my surprise was the fact he is married to Claire Forlani!!! Oh my! I was so happy! I love her! She was amazing in Meet Joe Black! I have to say she is beautiful. Her eyes are captivating! And she is so sweet! So with that said, I love this movie. This is a movie of love, family, love lost, and how one deals with carrying out your life after such a horrible situation. Claire also has a loss if a marraige gone bad, and a father who was not there for her in younger years. But what impacted me the most was Mr. Scott's love for his wife he lost. It showed his weakness, but yet that weakness was honor and love for his wife lost. It made me cry so much! He is adorable. But when Claire came on the scene it was obvious she captivated him, and he was ready to say goodbye to his first love he lost.I love British humor! This movie was halarious with its humor here and there. But what is important is if you see the work put into making this movie simple, yet having a heart warming sentiment to it's direction of what the point of it all is.Life is love, and sometimes loss. It's how we come out of it all in the end. We may not like the things that happen along the way, but it's what you do in the process.Another observation. It was in the scene where Michelle gets the trifle for the two gentlemen. She is wearing a apron. That apron looks just like the one I have from Portugal. Curious where it's from.Lastely, Mr. Scott and Claire, you are a beautiful couple and I love all your movies. You have a handsome Scotsman, and Mr. Scott you have a beautiful wife! Please don't let Hollywood spoil that! Stay in love! Stay together!I love your movie! And look forward to seeing more of you both in the future!God bless

We bought this film having enjoyed other Claire Forlani romantic comedies
We bought this film having enjoyed other Claire Forlani romantic comedies. Despite some reviewers' criticisms of it being "slow", we found it enjoyable. The leads, Forlani and Scott, do not disappoint, and Simon Callow is highly entertaining. Perhaps the baddie is rather too much of a pantomime villain to be credible. But an entertaining and enjoyable film, nonetheless.

Missing a special ingredient
Consider this a 3 course meal you've been promised, where the starter is 'fine' but lacks depth of flavour, the main is nice but lacks presentation and the dessert is a sticky gooey mess that you really shouldn't enjoy (due to calories alone) but you couldn't resist finishing! Not a bad British film, there was something missing it to make it really good. It was a reasonable way to spend a few hours- with some fun cameos from people you would recognise from mainstream tv.

Beautiful film great story
This is a foodie's version of Love actually, Fantastic story great acting and of course The God of the kitchens himself Gordon is in it could not want more from a film if you love Real English Pubs and a storyline that no doubt rings a lot of truth bells then here it is Loves Kitchen. And Maybe idiotic Americans who still insist on driving along texting and talking on mobiles may actually realise its not your 'right' to use your phone driving it's others right to live.

excelent
excelent film, great storyline, but makes you hungry, obviously the critic and chef fall for each other but not for long time a lot of ups and downs and the critics dad tries to sabotage the restrant/pub, but due to the daughter of the chef ends up supporting them, well worth buying a film you could watch over again.

slow, slow, slow
The idea of the movie is great and, potentially, a wonderful love story BUT the pace is excruciatingly slow. It is so slow that you lose patience with it long before you develop any sympathy or interest in the characters. I watched it to the end hoping, against proof, that it would improve. It would be more entertaining to do nothing than to watch this.
