Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy)

3-in-1
My absolute favorite book of all time is the first book in this trilogy, Sabriel. The second and third books (Lirael and Abhorsen) are almost as good. Sabriel, the first of the 3, could normally be read as either a stand-alone or as the start of the trilogy. The 2nd and 3rd books must necessarily be read together. Sabriel is the story of a girl who is from one world, a world of danger and magic, but who grows up in another world, a place amounts to an English boarding school in a town only a few miles from the border between those worlds. At the end of her final year at school, a creature of death from the other world shows up with a bag of gifts for her and the message is clear- something has happened to her father and she must find him and learn if he is even still alive. She learns the truth about her family history and she befriends the talking cat Mogget and the mysterious Touchstone on her journey. There are powerful beings doing everything in their power to stop her and kill her. Lirael + Abhorsen takes place about 20 years after the events of Sabriel. The story focuses on other members of Sabriel's family and a new villain that is one of the beings left over from the creation of the world... the destroyer and he will not stop until he has fulfilled his namesake in both worlds.

Favorite book I own
Here is a review that I wrote in 2011 on my own journal:-----I cannot choose my favorite amongst these books. Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy) , Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr  , and Abhorsen (The Abhorsen Trilogy)  all touch me in a different way, and, as a trilogy, are my favorite book(s). I remember when I first read Sabriel: a borrowed copy from a high school friend. I was instantaneously hooked on them. I sought to read the whole series and - at one point - owned a large, all in one, copy that I have since lost, and desperately want to replace. I've spread the word to those I know about the series in hopes to spread the word to those who had not heard of it, so that others could join the love not only of the written word itself, but of the characters: Sabriel, Touchstone, Lirael , Mogget, etc.I've been known to quote a line from the series that seems to fit in more places that I would have originally thought: Coils within Coils, Fleas upon Fleas, Idiots begetting Idiots. Those who have not read this series. DO SO!-----Since then I've reread the book twice and have lent it to my best friend, who also loved it. I've read this book 4 times since I purchased the book and each time I find something new that I missed. Even though I can open it to a random page and know what's going on, the book enraptures the mind. It's definitely a page-turner; before you know it you'll finish pages and chapters.

A captivating story, full of twists.
This book is the story of two necromancers who, instead of raising the dead, actually seek to return the dead back to where they belong. They are call Abhorsens. It’s a captivating story, and builds up well into quite the saga. Very creative story telling and a twist on the regular necromancer archetype. A great read. And all 3 books in one volume was handy. Looking forward to the other books that align with the series.

In depth characters and world. Makes you want more.
All the old kingdom books rock! Mogget is always my favorite. Reading sabriel was a struggle at first. Just trying to understand Garth Nix's world and the magic system of it took a little getting used to, but a few chapters in and I was hooked. Me, my wife and 13 year old daughter have nearly finished all the old kingdom books now, including Clariel, Golden hand and The Creature in the Case. They loved the books too, but it took them a few chapters in on Sabriel to get warmed up and then they couldn't quit! Great books!

Great for Young Adults
These Books are great for Young Adults. Very interesting Characters and lots of nice plot twists. The first book can be lacking a bit for older readers, but i say nonsense. You have to use your imagination! The second two books are amazingly written. Very good exciting stories. dont trust some of these sellers on here too, buy from the best (EnlighteningMindsbooks) if they have it in stock.
