What Your Second Grader Needs to Know: Fundamentals of a Good Second-Grade Education (The core knowledge series) Paperback – 15 Jun. 1999

This is a very interesting read, Hirsch is flavour of the month with the Coalition boys, and primary education in the UK may well follow his lead, with a bank of core knowledge set for each year group. Bear in mind that this book is for the US market, so many of the stories, history and geography sections favour US topics. It's still worth a look though, and if you are a home educator, this entire set of books would be a useful skeleton for your child's tailored curriculum.
