Extremely versatile, easy to use, and portable
I used to have the Insta360 ONE X, but I always wished it could do more, like record in regular 4k and use an external microphone for better audio, and that it had a better screen with more options. Looks like Insta360 was listening 'cause they fused an action camera with their best 360 camera and a bunch of awesome features on top. Now, I can use my ONE R as a 360 camera, an action camera, or even as a vlogging camera with the tripod and external mic adapter. The 360 video is still very clean and the selfie stick gets completely removed with near-perfect stitching. One of my favourite features is the modular system that lets me swap out the lens with the 360 mod, 4k lens, or the 1-inch Leica sensor, which produces great quality video with excellent stabilisation. It's noticeably better than the 4k lens. I can even point the viewfinder screen towards me so I can see what I'm recording. The mobile and desktop apps are very easy to use in re-framing 360 videos and creating special effects. I haven't tested this, but the camera can also be used to livestream videos and as a webcam. Physically, the camera is very well-built and sturdy despite being made up of multiple parts. I wish the standard battery also had the mount built-in like the Boosted battery, but the mounting bracket is needed for that. I also really appreciate that it's waterproof out of the box without an extra case. I'd recommend the ONE R to anyone who wants to create or learn 360 videos as well as regular/wide-angle videos with a single system and carry less equipment. The package is great value.

Glitchy. Poor design. No case/lens cover. Clumsy user interface.
I loved the concept of this camera but unfortunately, I didn't really get a chance to give it much of a try. A quick walk around the block and the camera got really hot and locked up on me. After having to disassemble the camera to get it out of the mounting bracket (more on this in a sec) so I could remove the battery to turn it off, the interface wouldn't allow me to preview the video. It was completely unusable. I thought I'd try it the next day and it worked for one video then started glitching out again. I was using one of the suggested memory cards as well. The design on this is really poor. I bought the 1-inch lens version and the lens cover covers 1/4th of the tiny touch screen making it really hard to use the swipe interface. It feels very delicate and doesn't look like it would hold up to any amount of bumps. There is a small gap between the battery and the lens/body you can actually see daylight through. The touchscreen user interface was really confusing. It was pretty frustrating just trying to figure out how to get it into a shooting mode. You control the camera by swiping into different modes but it's hard to swipe on such a small screen. In order to get the camera in and out of the casing (remember, this battery only lasts about an hour at best), you have to unscrew the lens protector. Since the unit is so tiny and delicate, I couldn't imagine having to do this in the middle of a shoot. It's also really hard to access the charging compartment with the mounting bracket on it. Last was the fact that it didn't come with any type of case or lens cap. Come on, guys. It's a $300 lens that sticks half an inch out of the body of the camera. Adding a .50 piece of plastic wouldn't have killed the premium price on this. I'm sure I could have returned this and gotten a less glitchy camera but the design flaws, cheap design, and questionable durability would have made me return this anyway. I'm excited to see what this design has for future versions once they've fixed some of these issues but you'll probably want to steer clear of this.

It's like a sci-fy camera, you can rewind reality and look around to see what you missed!
I do a lot of skydiving and it's amazing to be able to fly around and look wherever you want, film multiple people, and most of all stay safe by looking where you are going instead of what you are filing! The 1" is amazing in low light. we did an amazing night jump and we've never been able to film it this well before. This has opened up a whole new way of filming action sports ! The days of multiple cameras to make sure you get the angle and shot are gone ! This camera will catch everything (even behind the scenes at the same time !) I will say, it's a learning curve to edit the 360 video, but once you get a hang of it.. it's truly amazing! I couldn't be happier (and I have had almost every edition of the GoPro)

THE BEST ACTION+360 CAMERA!!
I've been looking into the Insta360 cameras for a while and have been very tempted to get a 1-Inch after hearing tons of good things about it. I'm an outdoor lover, especially underwater sports. So I've been looking for an action camera that is rugged and can offer high image quality both on land and underwater. I saw ONR R had some major updates on several features earlier this month, one of which was "AquaVision": which is a magical color correction technology that balances underwater color. When I saw the underwater footage comparison, I was JUST BLOWN AWAY! It was sooo natural and JUST beautiful. So I finally purchased the one-inch edition last week and got the package two days ago. I've already taken the camera out and let me tell you WOW, the CAMERA does NOT disappoint!!! I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who's looking for incredibly smooth footage (thanks to its high stabilization), 360 degrees shooting, or simply who WANT IT ALL!! Awesome job INSTA360!!!!

New Firmware for Insta360 R1 quikly, for solve the problems!
It's fantastic Camera but the Firmware have to be upgrade with the solution at the Insta 360 R1 problems. 1. When you change from video-camera to camera everything freezes and only by disconnecting the battery it resets and starts again: a big problem! 2. Even shooting on the Camera being a Cam-camera, the button (rightly) is slightly hard and is not delayed: this can create false movements making the photo move. So I love Insta360 R1 and I not return back! I have my Insta360 R1 with the fantastic Laica lens, but actually I give only 3 Star until not solve the problems. Thank you. Marco

Obsessed with this camera
So I also have the 360 lens for this camera, and just recently picked up the Leica 1-inch lens. Because sometimes I want a higher resolution, since this shoots higher res in 5.3K. Super useful when I want to digitally zoom into the footage (which I've been doing for dolly zooms). There's a big improvement in low light - sunset shots and indoors shots are clearer and a lot less grainy. Since I almost always shoot with natural light, I appreciate being able to shoot in a wider variety of lighting situations now. Btw if you want to get "impossible" shots like the invisible selfie stick, you'll need the 360 lens as well (the 1-inch lens doesn't work for invisible selfie stick, and obviously it doesn't shoot 360 either, it's a wide lens) Favorite thing is how good the stabilization tech is for this camera. I've been getting hyperlapses where I can just walk forwards and the footage is super steady. Whereas other cameras I would need to use gimbals, this one I just put on a monopod/stick and can walk or run with it. The app is amazing as well as it does all the stabilizing + can also motion blur the footage for a quick edit on the phone.

I Had Such High Hopes for This Camera
I shoot a lot of action video and need a well-stabilized video image. I currently use multiple GoPro Hero 8 cameras but was looking for something with a higher resolution and larger sensor. Judging by other reviews and videos I took a chance on this camera. I made a mistake. Granted, this is just my experience. Your experience may vary. Problems: 1. After shooting for 90 minutes on 5K the camera would not respond to any controls, stop shooting, or shutdown. I had to remove the battery to get it to stop. 2. Unlike the GoPro this camera shoots everything in one file which is not comforting. If the file becomes corrupted you could potentially lose a lot of footage. After I removed the battery, it seemed like the last 5-15 minutes did not appear on the end of the one giant file. 3. The screen controls are hard to use. Trying to set an interval for shooting photos was very frustrating. The camera would shoot photos every 5 seconds but the display said interval off and would not allow any changes. 4. The file formats (insv) are unique to the camera and require you to use the Insta360 Studio 2020 software to export video. The studio software is promising but not awesome. 5. Even with exporting the footage using the "FlowState Stabilization" the video footage was too shaky to use. I even attempted to save the footage by using other stabilization plug-ins. No joy. While it stabilized the video a bit it left it with some strange flicker. It reminded me of Hero 3 footage with a jello effect. 6. Manuals, instructions and online guidance are disappointing. The manual is printed so small that it makes it hard to use. The Insta360 website is not wonderful when looking for specific information on the Insta360 R 1 operation. I think the camera has potential and love the modular design. It seems like the big disappointment here is software related, both internal and external. Keep your eye on Insta360 for better things to come but for now, this is not it.
