It gives both the on and kun meanings of the kanji and has plenty of practice spaces. I'm not actually writing in the book however as I have a separate notebook of plain kanji grids. But it is very helpful to have the stroke order laid out and examples you can trace over in order to get the feel of how your pen should go. I especially like that it has all of the kanji that will be featured on the JPTL test for level 5, so you can focus on those and improve your chances of passing. Review: Recommend - Great way to learn kanji, especially for beginners, but also for people who wants to brush up!

Great for beginners!(after learning Hiragana and Katakana)
I love this book! The first nine pages is a complete introduction to Kanji including stroke order, Okurigana, Furigana, on-readings, kun-readings, and the history behind Kanji. It’s perfect for understanding where congee originated from and why it is the way it is today. Pages 10 to 60 is where you learn the 103 most basic kanji characters. You learn the stroke order, their on and kun readings, and the common words they are part of. And from page 61 to page 112, the book offers writing practice to better understand the kanji. So far I have nothing to complain about!

It's good, but not great.
Overall, for the price, this book is a decent resource. I use it mainly to practice stroke order and gain consistency in my Kanji writing. However, I was somewhat questioning the contents of this book as I went. Only a couple of pages in and there's an 18 stroke Kanji already? I think for beginners that is a rather difficult thing. The book my sensei used in high school was the 'Basic Kanji Book,' which is more expensive, but I feel like it was a little more beginner friendly since it started off with the Kanji with the least number of strokes. Also, it had a space to practice writing the words that use that Kanji too, which I feel like this book lacks. If you're using this book for the reasons I'm using it for, I'm sure you'll be fine, but I think if you're using this exclusively and expecting to fully understand Kanji, you may be a bit letdown.

good for people just starting to learn
I love it. It reminds me of those books your mother would buy at the store to help you get good at writing your letters out. The ones that you would write each letter like a thousand times. This helps well with muscle memory

Very pleased with this book. It shows the stroke order and you get just over 100 kanji to practice. I got sticky dots and tracing paper to put over each page so I can practice forever, easier than photocopying the page. There’s a simple short intro on stroke order and history, then it gets straight to the kanji practice, then later on combination kanji practice. It’s clear, easy to use and not to big and heavy to carry around.
