A new appreciation for being vegetarian... Great book.
Background: I am vegetarian, I am not vegan, I do like Mexican food, I do not do a whole lot of cooking, I am good at following directions.Summary: The book provides a variety of vegan "fillings" for tacos. It also provides the recipes for the associated sauces/toppings/condiments as well as the tortillas themselves. The recipes are amazingly flavorful and fun to make. Cleanse? Not so sure... Change my life? Without a doubt!Comments:This book has absolutely wowed me. Admittedly, the "cleanse" part of the book is only half-way serious, but, (as the book says) if you look at a cleanse as being more than just the body but also of the spirit I can kinda get into their semi-serious cleanse. So, not being a "cleanse", why do I like it?-The recipes are REALLY good. I eat out for most every meal... But, after having made about 6 things from the book I am beginning to wonder why. I am making more enjoyable meals at home than eating out. I would say most recipes are about a 20-40 min commitment which is not too bad.-My room mate, while non-vegetarian, is lactose intolerant. As a perk, the book has a DAMN good recipe for a vegan "nacho cheese" and a not bad recipe for a ranch dressing. Seriously. I like my 7-11 nacho cheese and this stuff is better and (I assume) a whole lot healthier!!-The book encouraged me to make staples I have never made before.... Tortillas, seitan, etc. Neat! And they are really not that hard. Also, as everyone says, home-made corn tortillas really are pretty good (and easy).-While I do eat tofu and other soy products, I try not to overdo it because of the phytoestragen issue even though the evidence is really not supportive of that being an issue. So, that said, the book does have a lot of recipes using gluten and other non-soy protein sources. Of course there are lots of soy/non-gluten recipes as well. In general, the book has a lot of diversity for meat substitutes and it has opened my world a bit here. Some additional comments....-A large number of the recipes are much more involved than I am used to. I find that I had to really supplement my shelves to start to play with this book -- not a bad thing, but, I had never bought a jackfruit in brine or a soy curl or liquid smoke or "nutritional yeast".... Then again, I also had never bought dry dill nor coriander -- so take this comment with the realization that I am not much of a cook. Many of the recipes want to have a "readthru" before attempting to prep -- I find that I usually have 1 or 2 little bowls filled with mixes of ingredients so I can add them at the right times during the preparation.-I like cumin, but, the authors LOVE cumin. I have started halving all their cumin recommendations and making up the balance with ground coriander.-Any cleanse book that includes recipes for a few different types of margaritas understands the true spirit of a taco cleanse... A cleanse of the body and the spirit

BLASPHEMY!!! I Condemn you!!!
When this popped up as an add while surfing Facebook, I immediately clicked BUY. The appeal of a taco diet makes sense as I am an obese Cajun-Texican who sustains life primarily through the consumption of tortilla wrapped goodness. I have also experienced some tacos from a gas station in Galveston which seemed to have quite a cleansing effect but that is a different story altogether. However, when this book arrived on my Texas shaped "Howdy Y'all" front door mat, I was horrified to find that the recipes are entirely VEGAN. All Texicans understand that a taco is simply a convenient method for transferring greasy meats from plate to face without getting grease on your fingers which would lead to grease on your gun, which is unacceptable. But not as unacceptable as what is in this book.As I flipped through page after page of meatless tacos, I felt genuine shame like if I were looking at a dirty magazine or a travel brochure from the Peoples Republic of California, or a Hillary campaign letter. At first I blamed myself but I will not blame myself, I blame the authors. NO I CONDEMN the authors. I hereby charge Wes, Stephanie, Molly and Jessica of blasphemy. You have been tried in a Texas court of public opinion over Shiner Bock and ribs and found guilty. To make restitution for your vulgar offenses against the decent people of Texas, you are to within 10 business days, report to the Bob Bullock museum of Texas stuff and donate the entire $11.61 I paid for this book and then read Lonesome Dove.Additionally, doves, lonesome or not, make better taco filling than grains and sticks and leaves and other vegan stuffings.

Looks nice!
I got this as a gift for my omnivorous, taco-loving friend. I did not open the book to browse just in case I wanted it for myself. Lol...I’m basing the review off of her reaction as she flipped through it.She seemed to really like it and it took her about 2.5 minutes of browsing to realize it’s plant-based (she didn’t read more of the cover after she saw “taco”). It has lots of extras in there in addition to recipes that makes tacos a full part of your life. She was with enthusiastic about it so I count it as a win and a good present for the taco lover in your life, regardless of diet... or just to yourself.

Your entire life will IGNITE with passion
As soon as I heard about the Taco Cleanse way back when it was a VeganMoFo theme, I knew the world had been forever changed for the better. I am so happy that the Vegan Taco Scientists have graced us with a book so that everyone can work toward achieving similar levels of awesomeness through a taco-based lifestyle. This book lives up to it's excellent premise. It is witty and smart - written in a voice that will sound all too familiar if you've ever read a diet book or blog or article, but applies delicious and life-changing taco science to the theme. The recipes are well written - check out the wet hand/dry hand description for breading the Iridescent Tofu (p. 92-93) for a superb example of the solid cooking and recipe writing that underlies the humor and life advice that abounds throughout the book.I think that everyone, vegan or not, could enjoy this book. Who doesn't want a great recipe for beans or gallo pinto? You don't need to be on a plant-based diet to try a plantain tortilla, do some taco yoga, or pick up some taco gardening tips.Bravo, Taco Scientists!

Well researched, well written and humourous cookbook
This cookbook is so funny and inspiring. There are over 15-20 from scratch recipes that I actually want to attempt. This cookbook focuses on fresh authentic ingredients as it’s inspiration. I personally choose this book knowing it has a vegan leaning, as I often remove dairy and have discovered I am not missing anything, in fact I am gaining far more flavour with cashew ‘faux sour cream/ creama’ Than what dairy can offer.I am delighted with this book and how it pokes fun at how we over- obsess with what we think is healthy. I choose to eat what I love and what works for me, and Mexican food is the nice vehicle for complex flavours and freshness. This book has great photos, great tips and modifications to simplify or expand on recipes. I really appreciate that in a cookbook.

I'm not vegan but really enjoyed this book
I'm not vegan but really enjoyed reading the recipes, tips on creating a healthier overall meal plan, and creating and improved eating lifestyle (don't say diet!) And who doesn't love all things taco?! The recipes are easily converted for non-vegans and non-vegetarians.
