My goodness, what a buy. Lots of good music and singing. I bought this one the same time I bought the new one, Heritage. Some of these songs are just so good. I love "Come by the Hills" that Damian does. In this one, he sings part of it in English, and does a great job, even though he was quite young at the time. He also does "A Bird Without Wings." another very nice song. Later, he sings a couple of old US songs from the fifties or early sixties, (I am not sure, but they are quite cute, and my family got a kick out of them).Keith sings "The Island," which happens to have been the first song I every heard him sing. I was glued to my monitor. What a thought-provoker. He is really a good story teller. "Lauren & I" is a song he wrote, and it is quite engaging. His other solo is "I Want to Know what Love Is." David Phelps (a marvelous singer) does the same song, ~and they are so different in their presentation that one would scarcely notice that it is the same song. I like them both, but for the type of song this is, Keith makes it sound more personal. He has that low, soft presentation that sounds like he's thinking, and for this song, it really works. (This is a big statement for me, because I love David's singing.)Ryan is a kick. He makes me smile. Those girls that help him and Paul do numbers are great, because I should laugh aloud, for sure. He can also be very serious. He is fun to watch when he is flirting or whatever, and rather fascinating when he is dramatic. I really like him.You must hear Paul sing Knights in White Satin. Very pretty. Paul has a most well-trained voice. Another pleasure to hear is, "Love Thee Dearest." I enjoy him on all his songs. There is no reason not to; he has a great voice.George is another good story-teller. Oh, they all are -but Keith and George tell the touchy feely ones; Ryan's are usually more dramatic, whether romantic or about some dramatic event. George has a nice rather deep voice and a solid presence. He, like the other Irishmen has a twinkle in his eyes and an engaging expression that seems about to give birth to a secret. His solos are slices of life for the most part. I find Damian and Keith to be the more solemn ones, when they are serious. Ryan and George, even when serious, look like they might smile at any moment, and Paul has a cute way of flirting with the program, and sometimes he too looks like he is about to surprise somebody.I believe you would enjoy this DVD. There are twenty-eight (28) songs; you would just about have to like some of them! Again, I say: What a buy!Mickey Thorne / Portland USA

Personally, I loved it
I have a hard time taking reviews of CDs or DVDs seriously if they only talk about how much the buyer loved or hated the performance. To me that is 100% subject to individual taste. I may love Josh Grobin, All American Rejects, Coldplay, The Verve, etc. and you may hate them all or any one of them. No problem. So I'll limit talking about my own personal musical tastes in writing this review. My first exposure to Celtic Thunder was some late-night TV commercial enticing me to buy their DVD online. I am not for or against Celtic music but honestly have never bought any. I liked the short blurb I saw about this DVD so I searched Amazon and found there was a DVD version under $15 bucks so I bought it. The shipping point was in my home town, so even though I bought it late Sunday night I received it early Tuesday with no tax and no shipping charges. Woohoo, thank you Amazon! We played about half the DVD the first night. YOU decide if you love them or hate them musically but my review is that the video quality is one of the best I have seen ... very close to Blu-Ray quality on a normal DVD player. The editing is expert ... clean, logical and unobtrusive. The audio is first-rate, very transparent and clean, it took full advantage of my Amazon-purchased amplifier and speakers. For under fifteen bucks, it is hard to imagine a DVD that will bring you more entertainment. Ok, maybe Celtic music isn't for everybody but these performers are way too wide ranged to be considered only "Celtic". There are a couple of songs that truly brought tears to my eyes, and one or two (like Damien singing Puppy Love) that were so infectious that even the studio musicians on the DVD were so overtaken by smiles that they almost lost place playing their instruments. For the price, even if you watch this DVD only once, it is hard to imagine anyone not falling in love with it.PROS: Good cheap entertainment, great video and soundCONS: Logical assumption that they would sing together more, it's mostly a series of solosBONUS: Totally fresh versions of a few very familiar songs. First-class talent.

Do Not Miss This Show!
I have been reading through some of the several thousand reviews people have taken the time to write. You'll notice the things people keep saying are how talented the vocalists are, how beautiful the music is and how they watch the DVD over and over again. Be aware, the DVD is nothing compared to the live show. It's the difference between watching TV and experiencing reality. Whatever you have to do, go see the show! Buy this DVD and the two CD's. I saw the group perform here in Florida last week. I have seen hundreds of groups perform but this was the best show I have seen. Take a back seat Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Hank Jr. and everyone else. I truely feel sorry for anyone who has not seen this show.I was concerned about what may have happened to Damian's voice between 14 and 16. I was delighted to find that his voice is still the same. I have been trying to think of a male vocalist with a more beautiful voice but without success.Everyone I know who had seen the show will use one word to describe it - "Beautiful". Beautiful music and beautiful voices. All the great things said in all these reviews are 100% correct. I credit Phil Coulter for a good deal of the success as he helped select the group members and picked the tunes (he wrote most of them). I hope we will soon be treated to more CD's followed by a second tour. I can't imagine how they could top this one but I will be there. I will never pass up a chance to see these guys perform especially Damian. I was very disappointed that they were so poorly promoted by PBS.

Thunderous applause and awesome show!!!
I purchased this for my mother for her birthday this year as I thought she would really like this kind of show. Although she said she enjoyed it, it's not something she would choose to buy for herself. I've borrowed it and just watched and found it amazing! The songs, the performances and the guys are tremendous. They bring a depth and sincerity into their singing with great feeling and emotion. Recommend - of course! I enjoyed every minute of it and if my mum wants to give it to me, I would not be offended. These guys are awesome. On a sad note however, I was deeply upset to hear of the 'big guys' death last year and I'm sure the others must feel they have lost a massive part of themselves. I hope they will continue to bring this same depth of commitment and sensitivity to all their future shows. I shall certainly be looking out for a tour in the UK at some point.

Sensational
Celtic Thunder is referred to as the male equivalent of Celtic Woman probably because of the connection of the creator and producer, Sharon Browne. It is a wonderful show with at least 2 stars in the making - 15 year old Damian McGinty and Keith Harkin. The added bonus is the musical arrangements of the Musical Director Phil Coulter. The presentation is first class with the Celtic Concert Orchestra adding to the show together with the whistles, pipes and bodhran which I believe is a must with celtic music. I hope that they release another DVD later this year because I want more of Celtic Thunder.

celtic thunder
This dvd is absolutely fantastic. It is the best dvd we have ever purchased and we would recommend it very highly to any one who is a music fan. The five singers are very versatile; each one having their own special way of interpreting the songs, their voices compliment one another and the show is full of fun, drama etc. Can't stop watching it since it arrived. Brilliant!!!!
