Essential Joinery: The Fundamental Techniques Every Woodworker Should Know

Great starting point to expand our woodworking skills beyond butt joints.
I have to admit that in my 6 years as a woodworker I’ve not gone beyond using butt joints with my Kreg for my work. I’ve decided to start using other types of jointery, even if it takes longer to complete my projects. So far I’m happy with this book. It’s an easy read and the step by steps instructions make it easier to attempt new joints. I just need more time to practice and I’m sure I’ll become a better craftsman.

Excellent photos and explanations
Excellent photos and explanations. I’ve been a fan of Marc for a few years and this book delivers the same detailed level of explanation that only he can deliver to novices and experts alike. I’ve been taking the time to read each applicable section before committing to a cut or doing a layout and it continues to be helpful and serve me time and time again. I’ve got a few woodworking books and to be honest I rarely look at them more than once. This is the exception. Great book!

Great book!
What a great book. the awesome pics, heavy paper, and passing along his experience and knowledge. I've been woodworking for over 25 years as a hobby and know a lot of these but he takes it to a whole new level. Just what I was looking for to expand my own knowledge. Great job Marc!

Amazing book, one thing missing
This book is an amazing reference and how-to guide. It describes every kind of wood joint you can imagine and how to create it with clear instructions an photos. The one thing I really wish it had was a clearer comparison of the joints, such as when one joint would be better than another or if three joints are similar, when it's better (or worse) to use a specific one. Without that, the book can get a little confusing because there could be a half dozen joints that could work, but you don't really know which one is the best for your project.

#1 book every woodworker needs
Great book! I’ve been following Marc (the author) @woodwhisperer on instagram for awhile and decided to check out his book I’m really impressed. Everything is very clear and spelled out with pictures and steps, it’s now my most important tool. I love it

A must read.
This book will definitely help understand joinery better. Beginner to pro it is worth the read. Most of them I knew but the different ways to do them were new to me. This is a must for any woodworker.

It’s a “smorgasbord” of how to put together “useful” and “practical” joints
I love this book! It’s a “smorgasbord” of how to put together “useful” and “practical” joints – the bigger picture is up to you e.g. what will you make with them. There is no list of “redundant” projects that fill pages (padding) etc.I really liked this book. It’s very clear and it shows many ways to do the same thing, so it’s not (too) tool intensive. I found myself reading the book and it was as if Marc Spagnuolo was doing a voice over because he is so familiar...Mark’s workshop (YouTube) has a myriad of expensive "Powermatic" equipment. With a big budget, you could probably achieve a lot too! This book is however much more modest (down to earth) – there is no denying that you have to buy/beg/borrow some “essential” tools to get the job done. Given choices, this expense can be minimised. I like the way the book doesn’t exactly prescribe which tool is used, only that a particular type of tool is useful – choice (and budget) is up to you. It’s about the basics – you can probably find a book with 100+ joints and then only need half a dozen – as described in the book. It will give you confidence to either try something again or progress to something that's a bit more challenging. Pictures plus clear instruction that''s helpful is clearly evident! It should come with a money back coupon. I doubt you could read it and not save money – either by only buying the tools you really need (as demonstrated) or by making savings (do you really have to buy the best) or is there a trade-off/compromise to be had? Is there another way etc.
