Nice but watch out for the limited shelf life
This cleansing balm does leave your face really soft but it does leave a very slight film on your skin. This has meant that it's not the ideal base for my mineral makeup, so I just use this before going to bed at night. It's a nice smell. Reminiscent of the kind of cleansers used in spa's, earthy, with a hint of lavender.Lavender essential oil is known to calm skin, this was very gentle. Importantly this didn't cause me any problems on my very sensitive skin. The first time I tried this I was after using one of those 24-hour foundations, and had to apply twice to get it all off, (admittedly, some of those those new foundations are really designed to last and often need cold cream).I've been trying a few different cleansers recently and it has left my face sensitive and a bit red and blotchy in places. This brand didn't cause me any problems and help to get my skin back to normal again. It's quite a small bottle and has to be used within in 3 months. That won't be an issue for me as I tend to use my cleansers quite quickly.Like most organic products made using natural plant extracts, so this can work out quite expensive. Is it any better than any other cleanser? No. There's nothing about this that makes it stand out, but it will appeal to those who only want to use natural organic products.

Average
I ordered the facial oil from this brand and loved it but this cleansing balm definitely isn’t as impressive. For one, this is an incredibly small bottle for a cleanser and especially for use morning and night, including make up removal and double cleansing, this will soon run out. I found that although this is great at removing make up, I had to use a fair bit of product to really get it to melt into my skin and so you can’t even go easy to make it last longer for the price, which really is quite high. The scent is very minimal for something that says it includes a range of essential aromas and although I had no adverse reactions using this, I wouldn’t rush back for it either!

Not as Good as I Hoped
The first thing I thought when this cleansing balm arrived was what a small bottle. Then I realised that you have to use it within three months so a larger bottle probably would be a waste and so it does make sense. I liked the simple (not in a cheap way) packaging and the company ethos of “Minimal, Botanical, Radical” and anything with the word calm in the title has got to be worth trying! As you would expect from a balm, the texture is quite thick but it is very effective at removing make up and making your face feel really clean and soft. The aroma is quite earthy and, to be honest, not as nice as I would have hoped it to be. Whilst it is not horrible, to me it is not the “heavenly fragrance” that was promised. I find this best to be used at night, although obviously you can use it in the daytime as well, but the texture and the fact that my skin has an oily sheen afterwards doesn’t make it conducive to use before putting on make up.To summarise it is an effective cleansing balm which would be better if it had a more pleasing aroma, although it’s all subjective and others may love it. I think it is expensive for a 50ml bottle and the fact that it has to be used in three months means that you need to be conscious of when it goes out of date. If you are just using this balm it shouldn’t be an issue but is like me you have a few different cleansing products on the go at any one time it is something to think about.

Very good once you realise how to use it
This was bought for my partner. When she first applied it, she asked me what it smelled like, my first thought was 'paint'. Not a good start! Worse, it was quite greasy. Not very good at all!But then she added water, and it magically turned to a milky consistency and rinsed away with the tiniest splash of water, leaving skin very smooth and not at all greasy.Probably down to the magic of natural ingredients that have their own idiosyncratic way of working. So if you like your cosmetics to be natural with a bit of personality to them (rather than perfect but a bit on the petrochemical side when it comes to ingredients), then this is perfect.Natural ingredients, a little quirky in use, but works very well!

I am loving the "Five Dot Botanic" range and this one is no exception....
This brand is new to me and I tried the mask in a previous order and simply loved it.This Facial cleansing balm is awesome, creamy, smells truly botanic and earthy with a touch of lavender. It totally, yet gently, removed my makeup leaving my face fresh and bright. It's an expensive product at £24 for 50ml, but well worth it if you can afford it.
