Garmin Instinct Solar Tactical, Solar-powered Rugged Outdoor Smartwatch with Tactical Features, Built-in Sports Apps and Health Monitoring, Moss Green

I’ve read for some time about Garmin but hadn’t come across instinct solar tactical. I took a risk with it but glad I did. Very happy, easy to use and brilliant App. Very hard wearing, I climb, am generally very active and have been known for breaking phones, watches and anything else with a screen. Very sturdy and looks the part.

I knew I was getting a good watch from Garmin and I wasn't disappoint, this has made my life very easy in my job when it comes to the GPS being very accurate for grid references and bearings. The battery easily last a week with out charging it and hasn't been a problem in different climates. As my first Garmin watch I'm not disappointed and definitely recommend.

Holds battery fairly well could last you a full 2 week ex and works well with night vision

Robust, beautiful and reliable

Only been a few days but so far I love this watch … battery is amazing so far where I would have to had charged my Apple Watch every night this is still almost full . Really happy and it looks great.

Update: Since placing my original review below, I have had the joy of experiencing Garmin Customer Service. Do your research on this watch before buying, it has a track record of numerous bugs. After around a month of use, I found that the watch’s battery life was way below the expected battery life it shows on the display. Even when in battery saver mode and with all activity tracking disabled, not using for activities etc.. it would deplete much quicker than the remaining days it displayed. This then escalated to the point that the battery was not lasting a week, with all battery draining settings disabled and in it’s most basic mode. At this stage, using it for an activity, it would run out of battery before the activity completed. This is not good for anyone needing a reliable watch (which I would expect for £300), not to mention that it is targeted at the military user. Not sure I would fancy it cutting out while on a HALO jump! I contacted customer support, who were difficult and although it is a known issue reported on multiple forums I was told that logs were required etc... fair enough, I provided logs. Note that after reporting on the telephone it is an email process and generally takes a week to respond to a single question. Eventually, Garmin believed me and set up an exchange for me, however I was told I would receive a ‘recertified’ unit (I guess this is a sneaky way to get around negative words such as reconditioned or the true description ‘repaired second hand device’. Note also that in their t & c, a recertified device has a reduced warranty of either 1 year or 90 days depending. So I buy a brand new device with 2 year warranty, it fails because of poor manufacturing and I get a replacement device which falls out of warranty sooner than the original device did? Sadly, it seems Garmin’s devices look pretty and flash but under the bonnet are cheap tat that Garmin don’t have the confidence in to fulfil a decent warranty. I can only assume a huge number of their products fail. Do your research! === Nice looking watch although for the price, the body should be better than moulded plastic. Sensor readings are distinctly average, sp02 is way off compared to calibrated medical kit (reading 92% compared to 99% on the calibrated kit), barometer seems go through occasional blips and after calibrating compass, it seems to drift off again. GPS lock is intermittent and I have managed over an hour walk with no lock, compared to instant lock on sunnto watch. Stress feature ‘heart rate variability’ is err variable and when put alongside another instinct shows wildly different reading. Loads if gimmicky apps, but I can’t see how the training apps are of any use. The strength app is pretty pointless as it won’t ever capture an accurate reading of reps. Fitness types seem to love this watch but then maybe they like being told they are fitter than they are. Reviewers seem to love this watch, but none seem to actually bother checking the accuracy of any sensors, I guess as long as they write favourable reviews, they get more free tech to review. Havent tried HALO / HAHO features due to not being an action man, but good luck to any soldier relying on this watch in the field and in enemy territory. No chance I would trust this to give me correct readings when doing a high altitude parachute jump from a plane at night into unknown territory! You could go for the Instinct 2, double the price, sensors just as useless and a much poorer display.

Excelente reloj inteligente. La duración de su batería es excelente. Es resistente a los impactos e incluye gran cantidad de funciones tácticas y deportivas. Como contra destacaría la carga solar. No es efectiva. Por el sobrecoste que conlleva, en mi opinión, no merece la pena. Por lo demás es un excelente reloj.

I was hesitant before buying this watch as I saw some negative reviews saying the battery life is bad and it looks cheap. I don't think so though, I am obsessed with this watch and it has all the functions that I need. I watched some youtube videos introducing the functions and I think those who said that they don't know how to use it or there's no alarm function - it's your own fault, you should read the instructions and explore the functions. The battery works well so far and I like the indicator which shows the solar intensity. I charged the watch to 100% on the first day I got it, and so far the power is still enough to last for 21 days. And if you turn on the battery saver function, it shows that it lasts 67 days, which is incredible. I strongly recommend people who love outdoor sports yet like to enjoy and utilize different functions on a watch to buy this one. Not suitable for people who don't even know what they are buying and just need a basic functioning watch.

Eine "normale" Smartwatch kommt für mich nicht in Frage - diese würde nicht lange überleben. Die Garmin Instinct ist da deutlich robuster. Sie hat mittlerweile ihre "Kampfspuren" funktioniert jedoch noch immer perfekt. Ein Schutzglas habe ich mir aber doch gegönnt, und würde das auch jedem empfehlen. Die Bedienung über die Tasten ist gewöhnungsbedürftig, jedoch, wenn man das einmal drauf hat, eigentlich intuitiv. Wünschenswert wären ein paar mehr Optionen bei den Sportprofilen, aber im Grunde sind die vorhandenen ausreichend. Der barometrische Sensor für die Treppenfunktion/Höhenmesser kann falsche Werte anzeigen bei Staub/Verunreinigung. Das ist aber nicht für diese Uhr spezifisch sondern ein generelles Problem dieser Uhren. Hier sollte gelegentlich vorsichtig die Öffnung auf der Rückseite gereinigt bzw. vorsichtig durchgepustet werden.
