Great product and service after disappointment
Ive tried a few different brands of biltong and made my own. I have to say that this wasn't my favorite. Believe me, i wanted to like it. The taste was sour and most of the bag was pulverized shreds. :( I did find that letting a bit airdry in a bowl made it a little more palatable, but honestly it'sjust sitting in my fridge still, where normally I'd have eaten the whole bag in a day or so. I will say that there was a decent amount for the price. The texture and cut were good on the whole pieces. Also, some of the bites left a weird coating and nasty taste on my tongue, like baking soda or something, but definitely an off taste. I had my own beef jerky store for several years, so I'm a connoisseur, but no snob. -----update 8/13/2019------- I contacted customer service via the email on the bag and got a response. They sent me a new bag and here is the email I sent them back. Very happy now. ....The biltong showed up last Thursday! I'm sorry i kept forgetting to email you. It is delicious. It's night and day difference between the bag I got through Amazon originally. This bag was pristine and the taste is spot on. Every piece is a perfect slice, no shreds or fluff. Dark, rich brown color, not hay colored like the old bag. I really think that the other bag got very hot or something and out the taste off. Thank you so much. Now I know that if I am in the mood for biltong, Ayoba-yo is a good choice. Thanks for the customer service as well.....

Ayoba-Yo Traditional Beef Biltong
I have been lucky to visit South Africa a few times in my life. What is not lucky is coming home to the United States and craving biltong. Biltong is a magical, sugar-free, barely processed jerky and once you try it, you will never want to eat American beef jerky again. Biltong made in South Africa cannot be imported to the States, which is probably the saddest thing ever. I have searched for the perfect recreation of what I have eaten while road tripping through the Karoo, and I haven't found anything that can match it. Until I got this Ayoba-Yo Biltong delivered to my door yesterday. My search is over. Ayoba-Yo is a match to the biltong in my memories. The meat is sliced thin and perfect for snacking. It is fresh, doesn't contain any gross preservatives, and the flavors are the perfect traditional blend. Try this biltong and make the switch, you won't be disappointed!

Biltong, any brand, is healthier for you than “beef jerky”.
Ayouba Biltong is soft and full of flavor without excess sugar, preservatives, and spices. Good quality: if you can get it on sale or with an Amazon subscription even better. Sometimes settling occurs and more small “shreds” of it than I’d like, but overall a great, good-tasting product. Per ounce? Hey no Biltong is “cheap”. This isn’t Jack’s Links, etc.

Sour moist meat
I had a hankering for jerky and found biltong instead. I didn’t know what made it different, but I was willing to try. I was very surprised how moist it was!! It’s better than the jerky here. If I wanted to gnaw on leather then I’d get my belt instead of paying money for dried meat. I liked that it didn’t have sugar. However , the flavor was confusing. It was mostly sour, like too much vinegar. Other reviewers mentioned that too and I must agree. I’m not sure how it’s suppose to taste but this experience makes me hesitate buying any more.

Rancid, Nasty, biltong shavings
This Ayoba Biltong has an OK flavour, but the black pepper is excessive. About 20% of the shavings are rancid, which means that every 5 shaving pinch you put in your mouth is practically guaranteed to have a rancid flake. The rancid flakes are bitter. acrid and foul, and this nastiness completely overpowers the biltong flavour, even the excess black pepper taste. I believe the rancidness comes from the white bits of fat attached to the meat, but who wants to sort and clean these biltong bits? DO NOT BUY!!!! FYI - I grew up in Swaziland and Botswana, and ate pounds and pounds of biltong. I even made Biltong while deep in the Okavango Delta.

Excellent flavor and texture to this jerky with no sugar makes it my new favorite
I have recently adopted a low carb, high protein diet combined with weight training, so I'm always looking for new sources of protein. I use protein powder as little as possible, and eat more from natural sources. I have a brand of beef jerky I really like, but traditional beef jerkies have a lot of sugar (10g protein to 6g of sugar). Biltong, however, has more protein per oz (16g) and 0g of carbs or sugar. Simple ingredients, and nothing funky. So a big win on the nutrition front. That is great, but what won me over was the flavor. It has a nice hearty flavor, and has a little wetness to it that makes the texture nice to chew. I have tried another brand of biltong, but I found it too dry for my taste (kinda of like chewing on plastic). So another win on flavor and texture. Pricing is okay. Good beef jerky is not cheap, so you get what you pay for. I would like to buy in bulk, so bigger packages with better discounts would be a good offer I would jump on immediately.

Poor customer service, good Biltong.
First, to be fair, the biltong is good. Not great, but good. Not as good as Woolies Biltong. It is not soft and does not have that classic Biltong taste you expect from traditional South African Biltong. Nonetheless, it is still quite tasty. I have ordered it more than 10 times. Taste and Quality : You can see from the Video and Photos how the quality compares with what I expect from South African biltong. The Biltong in the photo is from The Butcher Shop. (Anyone from SA will be familiar with this place). Outside of making your own Biltong, Butcher Shop Biltong is considered to be top grade, 10/10. Woolworths Biltong is 6/10. Ayoba-Yo Biltong is probably 4/10 on this Biltong scale. Not as good as Woolies, but still passable. (Keep in mind that true Biltong aficionados would never consider purchasing Biltong from Woolies). It is fully soaked through in Vinegar, so every part of every piece of biltong taste like the marinade. This is akin to a overly well done steak. With top quality Biltong, the marinade is only noticeable on the outside of the slab. The inside retains the taste of the meat. With Ayoba-Yo, you only get the taste of the marinade (vinegar, coriander, salt, pepper). Customer Service : Like with many Amazon sellers, as soon as a product is ordered, the buyer is pestered by the seller to write a review or contact the seller if they are not satisfied with the product. Most of the time I ignore these emails. However, this time I decided to let the seller, Ayoba-Yo, know that I was not satisfied with a recent purchase. I had I recently received a bag of Biltong that had been ripped open, and thus spoiled. I let them know about it. They promised to send a replacement bag. Then they contacted me and said "We are glad you received the replacement bag". I wrote back saying "I have not receive the bag yet." They said "Okay, give it a few more days, and by the way, we don't have any tracking information". I gave it a few more days, and still no replacement. How many emails should be sent back and forth before I receive my replacement? TLDR; Product quality good. Customer service poor. I am still looking for better Biltong options.
