MUST HAVE
This book is so wonderful explaining to kids that have difficulty learning that there is nothing wrong with them they just haven't found the solution that works for them. My grandson really loved it and especially the brain games at the end. High recommend!!!

Disappointed
I LOVE Julia Cook books so I bought this book to use with SEL lessons and was a bit disappointed. It was a bit convoluted and wordy for children and I could tell they weren’t following the story well. The subject matter is on point but the book missed the mark:(

learning can be fun
Great book. I am a librarian and loved being able to show my kiddos there are many ways to learn.

Struggling academically help
Many kids have a hard time focusing and understanding how to complete their homework. They feel frustrated and inept and wonder why their friends can get it done with a snap of their fingers and they take so long to finish. This book is a wonderful help for kids ( and their parents) as how this problem may get solved.Wade, a conscientious little boy, feels his brain doesn't work right after trying so hard and coming up with results which he thinks stink. He gets discouraged and wants to throw in the towel. Why even bother. Then a miraculous thing happens to give Wade support and care. Wade's Fantabulous Brain arrives on the scene and ta da!!! offers him assistance. He teaches the discouraged little guy to give his brain a tune up by reaching into his "Brain Tool Box" which will strengthen his learning skills and bring him success. He is cautioned though that it will take time and a lot of hard work but it is doable. He is instructed to reach out to others for help and don't feel bad in doing so. With Wade's self confidence and self-esteem rising he discovers he is on a path to victory! The illustrations enrich the text and are very well done. The message of the book is positive and encouraging to kids who struggle and it is a valuable resource for parents who desire to know how to help their child. I highly, highly recommend this book.

Another amazing book by Julia Cook!
I love everything Julia Cook, especially because she was a School Counselor. This book does not disappoint. Meet Wade, a kiddo who is struggling with learning. He is having trouble focusing and processing information, this leads him to question his own abilities. In comes his Fantabulous Brain to the rescue to teach him all about the tools he can use in his Brain Toolbox to make his brain work smarter not harder. “Think of your brain as an engine, with seven mechanical parts. Of one part isn’t working well, you’ll go slow from the start.” The Core brain skills mentioned are: Auditory processing, processing speed, visual processing, working memory, attention, long-term memory, and logic & reasoning. The book discusses brain training and provides a colored arrows exercises and word play activity to train your brain to handle new challenges. These are awesome to use to follow up after a class lesson reading of the book or within small groups. This is definitely a must have for your success skills groups and for children with learning disabilities and/or kids struggling with sustaining attention and focus.

Absurd!
This book is ridiculous! Does not teach calming strategies but says you should hire a brain trainer to learn to calm down. What???!!!! I do meditation with my first graders, teach the parts of the brain that matter to focusing, teach calming strategies, and this book went in the trash! Honestly, I kept thinking it had to be a joke!!
