Y.D.FDreamcast to HDMI Converter Supports 16:9/4:3 Switching, HD Link Cable for Sega Dreamcast, HDMI Cable for Sega Dreamcast (Sega DC)

I wanted a replacement for my VGA cable, so I gave this a shot. I was well aware going in that this would be merely an upscale of a composite signal rather than a "true" HDMI image. However, even with that in mind, the picture quality left something to be desired. When comparing the two, the VGA looks better in every way.My two biggest issues with this cable, though: 1) It has its own power supply. That kind of defeats the purpose, and if you're already full to the brim on your power strip, this will cause you to scramble to make room for another plug. 2) Many times the sound will inexplicably not play when you start the system. The video will be there, but the sound will be absent. I found the way to get the sound back is to unplug the HDMI adapter power supply, then plug it back in and restart the console. This, needless to say, is extremely inconvenient and shouldn't be necessary to do each time.When it works, it runs as advertised but again, the video quality is barely better than regular composite and the two inconveniences listed above bring the score down quite a bit.It's easy to think this will be a quick fix to solve your problems, since most modern TVs don't have a VGA input anymore, but you're better off either sticking with composite or going for another HDMI converter that doesn't have its own power supply. Or stick with VGA and just hope that TV lasts as long as it possibly can.

Does it work? Yes. Does it get hot yes. Not burning hot, but warm/hot. Sometimes it doesn't pop up on the TV when you turn on your DC and sometimes the sound is missing, so unplug the HDMI cable from this adapter and plug it back in. Comes with a USB cable for power, but no power block.

The description says this uses the Dreamcast's RGB component video, but this is a lie, it actually just upscales the composite video (confirmed in the included document) to 1080 and looks horrible. If you've ever used the Dreamcast with a VGA adapter, you know how good it can actually look when using the system's RGB component output. This adapter looks no different than if you were to connect the original composite video cable to the tv's composite analogue input. Composite signals look absolutely terrible on LCD TVs. The sample pictures I sent were taken of a 50" LG 4kTV, which is one of the best looking game tvs out there, so this shows you what you're getting. Don't get this unless you don't mind interlaced analogue composite video and don't have an analogue input on your tv.
